is it just me or do the Brewers have at least one critical player/prospect tear a shoulder apart sliding into a base every year?

Dammit this sucks - that being said, he's still a young buck and hopefully the surgery/recovery gets him back fully healthy headed into next season.  Missing this year of high minor league seasoning is still brutal, though.

I don’t know anything about labrums or tearing them. The Google search throws up scary results: “Baseball’s Toughest Injury”, “How to Survive Baseball’s Most Fearsome Injury”.

Sounds like a long, precarious road back.

Chourio graduating from the prospect list and Quero suffering a second major shoulder injury, watch that Brewer farm system rating plummet.

When was Quero’s first shoulder surgery. I’ve never heard anything about this.

It doesn't have much room to go further up after those happenings, obviously, but the cupboard isn't exactly bare, either.  Already rumblings about Yophery and last years draft class is already all over various minor league levels.

Could care less about a snapshot farm system ranking compared to hoping Quero just loses 1 year with this injury.  He's still just 21 and the silver lining is that the Brewers aren't exactly bard up for catcher at the MLB level for a few more seasons.

Was the other shoulder in ‘21

I mean different shoulders seems less concerning. If it was the right shoulder twice then maybe it would be something to worry about long-term.

This may be worse news as an organization than Woodruff's. Developmental time lost on top of injury effects.

I don't think it's on that level.

Woodruff was hurt right before the playoffs last year headed into a very winnable series vs the eventual NL Champs.

Quero is a 21-year-old catcher who's already extremely advanced and he'll recover. He doesn't have to throw 100 pitches at maximum effort every 5th day. He was on the verge of the bigs. He'll sit out, maybe play some Winter ball and he'll be back next year and it sucks...but it may even end up working out better for the Brewers service time wise given they have an AS Catcher at the moment.

Sounds like the right call getting the surgery and being (hopefully) 100% around nine months from now. Better than trying to see if it will heal on its own, then needing surgery later this year and missing part of 2025 as well.

Good call @BrewerFan on the potential to play winter ball. He could still be in line for a 2025 call-up if he can get some reps in this winter and has a good start at AAA next year.

I'm not as optimistic as some. I fear this will really disrupt his development with a strong possibility that his pop-times suffer, as well as his developing strength for his swing. I think he'll still be a big leaguer some day, but I think the likelihood of his being an all-star level catcher has taken a significant hit. At this point in time, I hope he can become Manny Pina. Which isn't a knock on Pina! Any prospect would be fortunate to have his career.

This is really unfortunate.  I hate shoulders but I'm hopeful that it won't be as big of a deal for a catcher, versus a pitcher.  I hope the kid comes back 100% and ready to rock next spring.  Good luck!

McCalvy quoted Matt Arnold as saying "We do expect a full and healthy return by Spring Training of 2025."

I know that teams sometimes paint a rosy picture around injuries, but it is good to see Arnold saying that.

If there is a silver lining it's that he wasn't going to be the every day catcher here next season anyway. I'd rather see him as the every day catcher his first full season instead of a backup for one or two. He'll still have an entire season in the minors to get his arm and head right. Maybe he'll even learn how to slide without injuring himself.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

I think you guys are maybe...overstating the impact of a shoulder surgery. They sure and they're awful, but you're describing it like he's not going to be able to do anything for the next year and then it's going to cost him all this muscle and now his entire career trajectory is off.

If his body changes long term because of a shoulder injury, he wasn't going to be a stud anyway.

In 6 weeks, he'll be able to be working on his legs and core and just working out. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up STRONGER because he spends the year focused on rehabbing rather than the daily grind of playing baseball where it's EVERY day all summer and you're far less likely to be spending the time you should be in the Gym.

If Jacob Misiorowski misses a year, I'd be 100% with you.  Quero will still be a very young catcher by the time he's healthy next year. A 22 year old Catcher in AAA on the doorstep of the big leagues? We'd all say he moved very quickly.
