Since Scooter Gennett's name has been brought up tonight, whatever happened to him? He had a very nice career, especially after leaving us. I know he got hurt and missed a lot of time to start the 2019 season which ended up basically being a lost season. He never signed as a free agent and was out of baseball at 29.

I looked him up. He's 34 y/o and out of baseball.

Herget trying for the rare 3 inning save in an 11-1 game.

Unfortunately, he will pitch himself into a trip to Nashville so we have fresh bullpen options

Bauers doing his best to stay on the team. 0.818 OPS the last 7 games

I think Bauer read the article I wrote saying we have to be done with him. Bound to set him on fire.

Believe he was only offered minor league deals after the pandemic but thought he was better than having to earn his way back to the bigs so that was that.

I understand that but somebody should have been looking to sign him for 2020. Maybe he opted out that year but still there should have been interest. All-star in 2018 to out of the game in 2020 just doesn't typically happen.

Yeah. I meant Contreras, not Gasser.  But now I get it, Ruiz was in that deal, which helped us get Contreras.

And Payamps.

Esteury Ruiz for William Contreras and Joel Payamps.

Sweet.

Thanks, so he did opt out then. I think I'd tend to agree with him but if no one is calling, you have to go that route.

Nice job saving the pen, Herget.  The intern just ordered the Uber to the airport for your flight to Nashville.

Herget in the handshake line “ I’m going down again aren’t I Murph? “

Murph “ we can talk about it later……but yeah…..you are…..good job!”

Not sure he'll be better than Scooter, who was also bigger than Frelick. For what it's worth (nothing), Brewers players 5'8" or smaller have a career .660 OPS with the Brewers and Sal is at .659. He's pretty similar to Mike Tiny Felder right now which isn't a real good thing. Maybe he can do something in this upcoming AB.

My preference for hitters is 6'1" to 6'5"  the frame on the bodies just present the higher potential vs under 6ft.

Frelick is still near .250 and he's probably the type when locked in to have a stretch of multi-hit games. One of those should put him .275+.

Then this offseason builds his frame and he's a .300+ hitter.

Hope your right. I do think he's at least capable of hitting .250-.275 but if it comes with a complete lack of power, he can't be viewed as a regular. He can bulk up some but he's listed at 185 which if accurate isn't too slight on a guy 5'8" so not sure how much he can add realistically.

Found this...surprised the Cardinals didn't sign him up right after this rant about playing baseball the right way.

Seems he's now farming, coaching youth baseball to teach those kids some respect, selling bats, and made sure he's wasn't the only person on earth who didn't have a podcast.

Holy crap, he "retired" from the game and instantly turned into an old curmudgeon. What a dork.

Only one boneheaded pay from the home team tonight. In the graphic showing Brewer pitchers w/6 shutout innings in their M.L. debut, it mentioned Jim Slaton in '74. Slatons' rookie year was years before that.

What stuck out to me about Gasser vs Myers was they both try to fill up the zone, but Gasser does it with the sweeper, and does it effortlessly. And of course threw strikes w/the FB too.

Glad to see Frelick get the late hit & RBI's. If I had to guess, I'm thinking he got on top of a lot of fastballs at the minor league level that he should be taking up here. He's fighting it right now, but I think it would be wise to let his story play out.

Methinks Hoskins & Adames are going to get a LOT of RBI opportunities if that top 3rd stays healthy. Loved their ABs tonight, especially Adames.

A word on Chourio: I'm guessing that anyone privy to what goes on 3,4,5 hours before the games would see a lot of concentrated work with him, Dawson, and Timmons, correcting & polishing up something mechanical. And they deem this work to be more fruitful than going to Nashville & cuffing around AAAA pitchers. Just a guess.
