Elder has an ERA over 5 but he pretty much dominated the Brewers back on July 30.  Hoping for better results against Atlanta this time around but we've historically stunk playing in Atlanta so I don't have a ton of confidence right now.

Would really like to see Garrett Mitchell in the leadoff spot instead of Turang tonight. Mitchell has earned it with his plate discipline gains this year. Also, has a 161 wRC+ over the last month.

Also, it's probably time to think about jettisoning Haase. Hasn't played in nearly a week. He had the nice hot start, but just not sustainable with his underlying metrics.

Could really use another left handed bat without Yelich, and we have Black just sitting there in AAA and already on the 40 man.

Agreed. Mitchell, Chourio and then Contreras would be my top 3 going forward.

The Braves remain atop the NL Wild Card standings, and they entered Sunday still just five games behind the first-place Phillies in the division standings. But they split a four-game set with the Marlins, who came to Atlanta having lost 15 of their past 25 games.

I hope we catch them at the right time.  I also think Collen Rea got an extra days rest for this one, I hope he is on tonight.

Have to think an IL stint is coming soon from one of the two Cs.  You'll be really close to September when its over

Haase is a good hitter also,  I agree Contreras needs to recharge his batteries for the playoffs.  Black also could split time with Hoskins at 1st.

Mitchell profiles to me as a guy that can do a little bit of everything, now that his plate discipline issues have improved. I don't have major concerns long-term about Turang, but either Mitchell or Frelick leading off right now isn't a bad idea.

Since the deadline I expected Black to eventually return. Three 1B is just a little less silly than three catchers, but the DH role is open for him w/Yelich IL'ed. Was hoping for someone having a need for a catcher pop up at just the right time a la Alex Jackson (or us needing to acquire Caratini), but no such luck.

The Brewers rarely play their 13th position player to any significant extent, so I don’t have a problem with them using it now to get Haase through to next year as the backup catcher.

OF is pretty full with Chourio, Mitchell, Perkins and Frelick.

1B/DH has Contreras, Hoskins, Bauers and Sanchez.

The only place we could really improve is a better IF to help out with the struggling Turang/Ortiz duo, but not sure that player is in the system at the moment.

Black is better than Haase in a vacuum sure, but I’d just keep getting him consistent reps in AAA until September because their isn’t really a regular spot in the MLB lineup for him now.

Not sure it really is.

Contreras and Hoskins have DH’ed six of ten games since Yelich’s injury.

I’d imagine they’ll get a similar percentage of DH starts from here on out.

Better wording on my part would be "I believe that's his primary role if he returns".

There would be enough LHP starts that we'd see the others as well.

I wouldn't have much of a problem with Black playing the "Yelich role" between DH and LF. Yeli played every day under this same roster configuration.

Mainly, we need a lefty bat who can get on base in Yelich's absence. If Haas isn't going to play, then I don't think it's worth having him on the roster.

Why have 3 catchers if you only play one?

We need to make a few adjustments to the bottom of our roster

Contreras workload has been scaled back over the last month plus.

Thru June 30 he started 67 of 84 games at catcher, about 80%.

Since then he is at 17 of 27 games at catcher, about 63%.

Need to not get swept.

This might be the best chance.

We haven't been getting swept and it's still not working out. We need to win series' and probably should be sweeping some.
