I'd rather have Herget.  Aso makes the roster spot interesting if they want C-Rod to eat some innings this weekend or get Hudson an appearance before the playoffs.

I'd switch Frelick for Turang at the top of the order against RHP in the postseason based on how both are swinging the bat right now.

And haase should be the dh

I'd certainly play Haase all 3 games this weekend against a playoff staff to see where his bat is. If he continues to rake, I'd consider it based on how badly Sanchez is slumping.

I'd definitely feel comfortable with Civale starting a game in the postseason. Wouldn't want him facing the order a 3rd time, but he's been steady for the Brewers.

I'm not arguing - I'm just using your post to say something about analyzing offensive prowess, and specifically Turang. His OPS is .650-ish, but I think some of the slugging% part of that needs to be adjusted for how many bases he swipes. Singles and walks are more like doubles for Brice. If you factored that in, would he be over .700?

Errors aside, this has been an enjoyable game. A number of gappers that found the grass. Civale with a good five innings. See if he comes out for the sixth.

Negative: "Hook and ladder, hook and ladder..." that FIrehouse Subs earworm is killing me.

"Go ahead. Try to disagree with me. I dare you." Jeffrey Leonard.

I think that's where you look at OBP. If he had an OBP in the .330 range or so, I'd agree that it's fine slotting him leadoff even without the slugging due to how often he turns walks and singles into doubles. However, it's at .313 and dropping right now and has been sub .300 the last three months.

I had to look it up to see if what we are hearing at PNC Park is a freaking harpsichord.  It is not.  We are hearing recordings of a supposedly legendary organist.  Every time they play one of those recordings all I can picture in my mind is Lurch on the Addams Family.  😄

Actually testing to see whether the lead is Mears-proof.  Going to invent another fake injury or just DFA this time?

No chance they DFA him after giving up a decent haul to get him at the deadline.

This. They're going to give him a long leash and at least one off-season in the Lab. They gave up two quality ML arms in that deal.

I said it then and I'll say it again here: Herrera was the real lotto ticket in that deal. He continued to flash upside at Spokane post-deadline.

Yep. Mears has very good stuff and has another year of cheap control. They'll give him every opportunity to make the pen next spring. Hopefully he figures some things out this offseason.

Matt Bush got a couple months and an IL stint into his first full season before he was DFA'd. I see Mears getting a similar leash.

It really just makes no sense. He has a 35% K-rate, 33% whiff rate but then a .482 xwOBACON against as a Brewer.

It's like he's tipping but only some hitters are able to recognize what he's doing to tip. It's been very all or nothing from him.
