Baseball America has published every team's pre-season Top 30:

Here are the Brewers

Fascinating list. Honestly, this is perhaps the closest national list to how I rank our guys - knowing full well, again for the record, I generally find these lists more entertainment than anything else. There is just so much wiggle room.

Notes:

  • Precipitous drops for Wilken and Burke
  • Jose Anderson and Manuel Rodriguez jump into Top 30
  • Jadher ranked ahead of Wilken and Burke 🫡
  • Many DSL'ers (new and old) in the Top 20

Arienamo and all his crazy batting stance and movement worries me.  Don't get me wrong, loved him as a T-Rat last year, but if that stuff doesn't get calmed down, will it play in the higher levels?  I hope so, but I think he is going to have to make some changes.

Agreed. Ala Wiemer

Not too shocked. I don’t think they were among the highest on Wilken if memory serves, and as someone who has Areinamo six spots above Burke myself…

I also like that there are too many players who feel like top-30 guys for the list.

Keith Law posted his farm system rankings today. Brewers came in at number 10 in Tier 3.

"It’s a very strong group of teenagers on both sides of the ball who are all promising but several years away, with the prospects who are closer to the majors more likely to contribute in smaller roles as solid regulars, back-end starters, or relievers."

That feels like a pretty accurate assessment of the state of the farm system.

Prospects #31-40 were released for all teams on BA today.

Our "next 10" included 5 teenagers, and only 3 guys over age 20 (Isaac Collins, Yorman Galindez, and Wes Clarke).

It's kind of crazy how young our prospect depth is.

A little late to the party, but I for one am not shocked at all by this.

Between Rodriguez, Torres and Galindez, the 2022 IFA class has produced some interesting pitching prospects, and that isn’t even mentioning Corniel, Anthony Flores and Bryan Rivera.

Brewers rank 3rd on Baseball Prospectus' farm system ranking; Cubs 14th, Cardinals 17th, Reds 18th, Pirates 23rd.

A point of emphasis is the depth of the system which they call "astounding".

Not sure whether it needs a subscription, or just a free account, or nothing to view, but here it is regardless:

PSA:

Nobody talks about him. And, I mean nobody. Nobody ranks him. And, I mean nobody

BUT, fwiw in this early sleepy time of ST...

Of all the college arms who actually pitched innings out of last year's draft you'd be hard pressed to find better mound presence; sneak peak of tools; and successful outcome than the 1 2/3 IP of work for sixth rounder RHP Chandler Welch vs Delmarva September 8th. I'm telling you, that breaking ball of his is every bit a weapon - he can kind of slurve it or go classic Uncle Charlie. Has two fastballs. A sweeper. What looks like a gyro slider - a pitch I think the Brewers may ultimately turn into a cutter (at least this shouldn't surprise us). Was touching mid 93's with life and ride in the outing. Just re-watched said outing and, well, I am simply whispering this is a young arm we'll want to watch in the early portion of 2025. That is all.

I know this is only a subset, but doing the teen prospect series, you could at least make the case that the Brewers rank first at every spot from 7 until they run out of teenagers. It is astounding.

Speaking of your teen prospect series, when are you releasing part 3?

It is in editing. I made some html tables that change dimensions depending on mobile or desktop view, and the coding for it took a bit of time.

Arizona Fall League: Top 20 Bats - Nice to see Caleb Durbin, Luis Lara and Juan Baez, though he categorizes Durbin as “more of a utility prospect”. Also, we hope Brock Wilken (not featured) turns over a new leaf in 2025.

As teams continue to try to maximize utility, like playing Mookie Betts at shortstop, I suspect that those prospects with no definable "position," but with "utility," may end up being valued more highly than they once were, and the term may become less of an epithet.

Hopefully there are a couple arms that turn out like Hunt/Yoho/Letson/Wichrowski/Kuehner/Manfredi/even Woodward, Robinson, and Birchard had some signs of upside in limited time. Hopefully some of the extra HS arms we got for show some good result in rookie ball and the college guys can advance quickly.

Robinson was extremely appealing in terms of how he spins multiple off-speed offerings. Birchard is entirely about controlling his stuff and controlling the zone. He has the stuff but it was a major struggle in terms of repeated precision of any kind. Fell behind entirely too much. Walked entirely too many guys. But still has the tools to put an impressive pitcher together. Woodward was legitimately one of the highlights of my viewing season. He has extremely tantalizing stuff. Everything had a tightly wound violence to it as it left his hand. His oblique/lat injury (can't recall exactly what it was) late in the Mudcats season was a real downer. I have him pegged as one of my 'likely to surprise and move quickly' if he stays healthy. The tools are too good to ignore. I think all three college pitchers taken early in last year's draft - Deberry, Holobetz, and Welch - have legitimate chances to impress in 2025. All three are different. All three can dominate innings if their bodies and stuff are right. This doesn't even touch on the pitcher I may be most interested in seeing in early 2025 in one just turned 20 years old LHP Wande Torres. We will likely see him for the first time on any semblance of a consistent basis on the Mudcats' mound. Words can not describe how patiently I've been awaiting his arrival. 😅
