I fully believe that we win tomorrow's game, only to be gut punched on Thursday.

Begs the question, would we rather lose the series in 2, or draw it out, only to be psychologically devastated after 3 games?

I'll even go as far as to say that if we win tomorrow, I can see us winning the series on Thursday...

Eh, it's just random baseball stuff so who knows.

Well, the Mets probably couldn't have drawn it up any better. The Brewers are competitive enough to use Payamps and Ashby for high-stress, poor-performance innings, but, ultimately, the Mets throw a guy with a 5 ERA to seal a 4-run win in the ninth. Buto pitches two smooth innings, but otherwise you avoid all high-leverage relievers.

They're definitely big favorites at this point, but what I love about the playoffs is they'll feel like the underdogs should they lose tomorrow. Let's put that feeling on them.

I not only am fine with him getting traded but almost prefer it. Get some value out of him if possible.

Well, that was a let down being competitive for half the game.  We shall see what they are made of tomorrow.

Why are we still carrying 3 catchers? 2 never play.

Because it's extraordinarly important that Adames be followed in the lineup by a left handed batter, so Jake Bauers absolutely must start and bat there, I'm told.

True. Let's face it: we'd be very disappointed in anything short of a World Series victory.

Disappointed but not surprised

If we were to go to the World Series and lose I would most certainly not be disappointed in the season. Oh sure, in the moment I'd be sad and bummed that they lost, but I'd be very pleased with the team and excited for the future.

And excited to have shown actual progress. This team has been here way too much to continue acting like the lights are just too damn bright for them every time they get here.

Hell, I'd feel the same about the NLCS.

Hopefully it's made of something different than what we were made out of the last 5 innings today, or they can start making golf reservations tonight.

In the five-run inning, they asked Murphy about it afterwards & everything he said was spot-on. You COULD pick on his 'twice through the lineup' comment regarding Peralta because technically he could've worked the fifth w/o facing anyone a third time. But he went to a guy who was terrific for about a month. Mostly it was as described---just some really good ABs, not being afraid to hit w/two strikes, going the other way. Very impressive. Maybe a little bit of luck on the Nimmo ball--a nice AB L vs L for him, but it goes to the perfect spot for Adames to not be able to make a play. But 90% just great ABs.

I honestly thought Payamps felt the ball hit to Hoskins was going through for a hit, and that's why he hesitated going to first base. Not an excuse; he clearly screwed up. Just an observation.

Severino, once he got the big lead, it was like he was pitching with a nagging headache all game & the aspirin just kicked in. Started locating & settled in. I think maybe our ABs stay as good as they were earlier if we were only down a run or tied. But down four, Severino locating better coincided with us starting to chase. bad combination. Youth.

The “undaunted” thing gets a lot of play because the media can easily make it into a cutesy story. Murphy, like any other coach worth their salt, knows that sports requires narrative, and a young team needs to learn resilience and how to navigate a long and arduous season.

But all that goes out the window in the postseason. The stakes are different, the stress is different, the put your head down and work like a mule climbing a mountain approach doesn’t work when your season can end in 18 innings, or in three pitches. So I doubt Murphy is making too much of a deal about being “undaunted” right now, but in light of today’s events, it sure is an annoying media talking point.
