Ha-Seong Kim signs with the Rays for two-years at 29M, with opt-out after first year.  That seems like a lot to offer a guy that is coming off of shoulder surgery and probably won't even play until May sometime.  I can see why we didn't do that deal at that money.

Another one of the potential IF options though is off the table.

This is less than I was willing to go on a pillow deal for Kim, so I'm sorely disappointed the Brewers didn't get him. I would expect the other IF pieces to start coming off the board quickly.

13-15 mil for half a season is a little risky. If we had the payroll room, maybe it would have been worth it. A good thing for the Rays is they can offer him the QO after he turns down the PO which is the most likely outcome.

I'm shocked a cost conscious team like the Rays would offer Kim that kind of contract. He won't be ready until the end of May or June so they don't even get a full season from him. They have dumped guys who were making less. Pre-season the Rays have about a 2% chance of  winning the W.S. so that makes it even more puzzling.

Most prognoses about his return is early May. $14.5 M AAV on a guy who's averaged 3.8 fWAR/4.7 bWAR per 600 PA over the last 3 seasons is well worth it. This is the move the Brewers should have made.

I think the 29 m is probably on line with what I thought he would get 1 was thinking 1/10-12 with like a 15 million player option that turns into a 20 milllion team option if the player declines his option. So 13 with a 16 option isn't to far off, I am surprised it is the Rays. Good for them, I think the Rays are probably square the team I root for most after the Brewers just to beat the Yankees and Red Sox.

Perhaps signing Kim simply allows them to deal Brandon Lowe, *hint-hint*

Highly unlikely.... When Kim is healthy he'll be at SS.

Diaz - 1B

Lowe - 2B

Kim - SS

Caminero - 3B

That's a pretty nice INF, no idea why they would want to deal Brandon.

They won't...We'd have to severely overpay to get Lowe from them.

The Reds are doing some things...

Cubs are still tied to some free agents too.

I do not think the division is going to be the cakewalk it has been this year.  Still not worried about the Cubs until they actually add some guys, but the Reds are threatening imo...

Glad to see fans here are giving PECOTA's Brewers win projection all the time it deserves here.

Not sure which system is was, but on MLB network today they had one of those projections up for the AL central and it was Twins 85ish, Royals 81ish, Cleve 80.      Who knows, maybe it'll end up close to correct but yea I don't know about those numbers

PECOTA NEVER likes the Brewers' chances.

That said, I get it. Adames left as a free agent, and they dealt the best reliever in MLB for a decent #3-4ish starter and a prospect. They have yet to make any significant upgrades to the team.

Expect a Bregman to the cubs signing soon which will just make it even tougher on the Brewers who have done nothing to improve the team.

It feels inevitable at this point.  Bregman and Tucker in the same off season would be pretty sweet for a Cub's fan.

What say you Mathew Trueblood?

Grichuck to the Dbacks for 5 mil. We should have been all over this as a DH/OF.

We don’t have room for a DH since Yelich, Contreras and Hoskins will take up almost all of those at bats.

Yelich, Chourio , Mitchell and Sal are going to get the outfield time with Perkins in reserve.

He would be a good platoon bat but just not a spot for him……if they are going to spend money I hope they use it on an infielder.

Plenty of abs at DH. I prefer to give Contreras actual days off so he doesn't fall apart at the end of the season/playoffs again. Hoskins is slated to play first base as we have no other one on the roster. Yelich has mentioned he prefers to play the field.
