That is a crazy ammount of money, I can't believe the MLB lets a teams defurred money get so high just to stay under the salrey cap.

Just putting it on credit should not be allowed. Guggenheim Baseball Management purchased the Dodgers in 2012 after the team went bankrupt and it will happen again.

Just straight up BS!

MLB might, but I doubt the players ever will...

That's what I don't understand about the players! There a a lot more players making less than the superstars , you would think the lower two thirds of player would make more money if the wealth is spread out!

While this is simply an opinion piece, I believe this is an accurate portrayal of the frustration of mid-market and small-market teams. Competitive balance is something that the majority of teams will want.

There has been lots of smoke on this front as well! Just as you are suggesting, the mid-market, and small-market players ALSO want some changes to how revenues are spent. Here are two links (about the same topic), from last April...

I think there's a universe where the next CBA is more peaceable than we expect, with 2nd division teams and 2nd division players teaming up to better share the wealth. This would be good for fans.

Deferring money doesn't help teams stay under the luxury tax. They take the present day value of the entire contract and divide it evenly across the duration of the contract (not including the deferred years).

Big HOF talk on MLB today.   They got into Pettite and how he had a big jump in percent this year, the guys on the show get into how his WAR is similar to CCs and they might have to go back and reconsider him now.   Just completely ignoring his PED ties and admission.    Its wild to me how it can just be ignored for certain people like him, Papi, Pudge, but an absolute killer for the elite guys like Arod/Bonds

I still believe Pujols was the other player(s) who had elevated counts when Braun was caught.  Still not sure why Braun was the only player leaked who failed the test.  There were others that failed but his name was the only one released.  There was also the former trainer for Pujols saying he did inject steroids into Pujols.  But that will all be forgotten for Pujols because he was with the Cardinals.

Paywall. Can some please explain the rule changes?

They are super minor, 1 was that you can get awarded a base if teams lineup wrong (3 IF on one side of second) instead of pitch being a ball can. I think they said this happened twice last year. The second was dealing with the sliding and touching of 2nd (or 3rd) when essentially you have given yourself up and you overrun the base but there is an error. I think the was a free article on espn I read.

The base running one seems silly.  It would be a situation like where there's a runner on first and third with 2 outs.  Runner on first goes all out to cancel the force so even when they are eventually tagged out, the runner on third will score and that run will count.  Now they can review it and if the runner hadn't reached home by the time the other player is past second with both feet on the ground then the run will not count.

So an extremely rare situation that seems like good coaching which will now not count.

Pressly 2018-22 (among 143 RP min. 150 IP)
258 IP (24th) | 150 K%+ (7th) | 78 BB%+ (23rd) | 61 HR9+ (28th) | 83 AVG+ (20th) | 61 ERA- (8th) | 57 FIP- (5th) | 7.8 rWAR (3rd) | 7.8 fWAR (4th) | +7.42 WPA (8th)

Pressly 2023-24 (among 130 RP min. 90 IP)
122 IP (43rd) | 112 K%+ (61st) | 80 BB%+ (29th) | 74 HR9+ (56th) | 98 AVG+ (92nd) | 86 ERA- (71st) | 78 FIP- (33rd) | 0.9 rWAR (75th) | 1.9 fWAR (32nd) | -0.21 WPA (95th)

Pressly was an easy Top 10 reliever for the 2018-22 period, but has been a lot more human the last two years with his K rate falling off in correspondence with losing his ability to limit hits resulting in pretty pedestrian results in terms of run prevention and leverage performance.

Wonder if that means Bregman will be heading back to the Astros now....

Anyways, it would be great if Bregman would sign so the rest of the 3B options could go off of the board.

Bummer.  Seems like a no-brainer for us, but I guess the Reds jumped in and snagged him.  Just seems odd that we weren't the ones to get him.

Reds signed LHP Wade Miley to a minor league contract.

Miley is making his way back from Tommy John surgery and hopes to resume pitching in the majors before the end of May. The 38-year-old made just two appearances for the Brewers last season, but he was very good in 2023, going 9-4 with a 3.14 ERA in 23 starts. He had maybe the best season of his career with the Reds in 2021, going 12-7 with a 3.37 ERA in 163 innings.

The Brewers must not have loved the medicals? Miley said he wanted to stay here and it did seem to make sense for us, especially on a MiLB deal :(

If the Reds don’t add him to the 40 man roster before breaking camp he can opt out 5 days before Opening Day. With Miley being 38 and a finesse pitcher coming off TJ surgery. I’m sure it’s the cash, a 2.5 million dollar guarantee for a lottery ticket was apparently too much for Milwaukee

Ha-Seong Kim signs with the Rays for two-years at 29M, with opt-out after first year.  That seems like a lot to offer a guy that is coming off of shoulder surgery and probably won't even play until May sometime.  I can see why we didn't do that deal at that money.

Another one of the potential IF options though is off the table.
