Ok. We have some minor bookkeeping to perform here as transactions appear to be appearing and back-dating themselves as they roll in through official channels:

  • LHP Tyler Jay has been activated from the 7-Day IL

Juan Ortuno too. He’s got sneaky power along with what seems really good swing decisions. Him and Handelfry in Carolina next year should be fun.

Anyone hear anything about what he’s got going on?

Ortuño has inflammation in his left shoulder and his timeline is still uncertain at this point.

AND with that my RHP TJ Shook fandom can live on unhindered by this strange (at the time - then and now) Era. Not to he confused by ERA. OH, what's that you ask? How is 'The Shookster' faring in 2025 for the Mets Double-A Binghamton affiliate?

IMG_9793.jpeg

4 Saves. 6 Opportunities.

We love the Brewers (obviously). They are not immune to mistaken thinking and targets and execution. Trading Shook for Jay didn't make sense then and still does not. I wish Jay well in his next stop as the journeyman soft-tossing lefty he is. I hope he can experience at least One successful MLB relief stint. Anyone in the business as long as he has been deserves at least a modicum of MLB success.

RHP Yorman Galindez required another elbow procedure and will not pitch this season.  Arizona Fall League is a possibility for the right-hander

Tough year for him. Maybe you've had a recent update and I missed it, but any news on Broughton and if/when he will pitch this year?

So far, Jay has two fewer innings for the MLB Brewers than Shook has at AAA.

So far, the Brewers haven't lost anything in that deal.

Nothing new since my last update which was that he was hoping to throw live to hitters mid-to-late July and make his pro debut in late August which would have to be for the Mudcats at that point in time

That's quite a hit to the AAA pitching. If only we had deserving pitching candidates in AA that could fill the void.  Oh wait, we have plenty. Should result in well deserved opportunities for Yeager, Fitzpatrick, Kuehner, Cornielle... Lots to choose from.

The real bummer of it was having Jay on the 40 man instead of giving his spot to protect Shane Smith.

Well AAA has Henderson, Patrick, and likely Myers who are all on the MLB bubble with the depth. Plus another pitcher (Priester or a reliever) will join when Cortes is activated.

And they have Crow and can call up Kuehner most likely.

So lost lots of pitching depth, but still have it.

I feel like I've said this like 20 times at this point so one more won't hurt but the Brewers had plenty of 40-man spots available. It was never Tyler Jay or Shane Smith for the last 40-man spot. Even after drafting Connor Thomas in the Rule 5 draft, I believe they had 3 open spots on the 40.

My point was they valued Jay being on the 40 over him.  I didn’t say it was down to only Jay or Smith.

Edit: That sounds a little snarky.  Just mean I agree with you and above is what I meant.

Seriously doubt it will be Priester. Too much invested. And the DL Hall/Priester "complete game" has become a great pen rest day.

Kept the quality depth. Lost the bulk depth.

I agree but someone will go down - and not sure who - which is a nice problem.

Unfortunately, regression, slump or an injury will make it work out. Wish that wasn’t the case and we had 12-13 deep pitching pool that remains effective.

More roster shuffling via IL designations in the post 2025 MLB Draft Brewers World:

  • RHP Jack Polancic was officially placed on the Full-Season IL by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers
  • RHP Aidan Maldonado was moved from the 7-Day IL to the 60-Day IL

Note: Just a reminder that all 60-Day IL, Full-Season IL, and Restricted List players do not qualify against the stateside 165 roster Limit

Have we had any clarification if Ty Duvall is actually on the development list in AAA or did he transition to a coaching role as bullpen catcher?

In Jim's recent article. This is all we really know:

Quote

C Ty Duvall - Yet to appear in an actual game, Duvall has spent 2025 on the Development List, and we believe is primarily acting as Nashville's bullpen catcher. He'll turn 28 in July.

RHP Joshua Flores will join his high school teammates Josh Adamczewski and Griffin Tobias in the Brewers organization and will sign in the coming days, forgoing his commitment to Kentucky.

It appears the Brewers have taken more steps to shore up their Catching depth with C Marco Dinges shelved for an unknown period of time and the unknown readiness and/or signability of their two drafted catchers in Brendan Brock and Rylan Mills.

  • The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired C Andrick Nava from the Philadelphia Phillies for cash considerations. He has been assigned to the High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

Apparently, it's the Phillies the Crew turns to for miscellaneous roster fill when positional staffing is tight. The most recent Philly trade prior to today:

Phillies (06/14/24) -- Acquired INF Casey Martin in exchange for cash considerations

Martin is no longer with the organization, and it appears his pro career ended with last year's .485 OPS in 54 games with Biloxi.
