What about  a 35 y/o 2nd baseman/shortstop that can hit for average with almost no power?  Is he an upgrade over Durbin or our other utility options?  He had a 3.1 WAR last year in almost 300 PA.  Any takers?

Obviously it's impossible to determine whether he is an upgrade over Durbin until we actually see Durbin at the ML level. I think I'd rather roll with the youngsters in that role than go with someone like Iglesias. Maybe trade for someone like him at the deadline if they need a steadying influence down the stretch.

If he can be had for a reasonable 1-year deal, sure. A 3B would be a better fit, but I think the most important consideration for the infield search should be to find the best player. The current FA crop doesn't excite me much, and he's one of the better options. I think, ulimately, the additional infielder on the roster will arrive via trade.

The longer Ha Seong Kim remains unsigned the more likely I think he winds up with the Brewers. Too many traits the Brewers like to ignore: defensive skill, versatility, good speed. Plus his OPS last year outside of Petco was .750 and career it is .725, and not quite 30 yet.

Short term fix at SS for 2025, they just have to wait him out for the right price.

I saw someplace that the Yankees are now interested in Kim.  Of course they are...

I would be fine with Iglesias, he has a pretty high floor so as long as he isn't to expensive that would be fine. Kim would be better but with the injury and a likely higher price it is more of a risk. I think it is likely Kim will take a 1/10-15 million dollar deal which we could probably swing but I worry about there being a Rhys style player option(s) that would really only hurt us. Iglesias for 6-8 with a reasonable team option and buyout may be better than 1/10-15 with a player option for Kim. However as a fan, I would go big and try for Kim. Kim could have 25 HR potential at AFF instead of Petco.

It looks like Jose is the best external option as far as talent and cost for our infield.  In another post (Under the Radar...) a number of posters agreed with this evaluation.  It is time to get it done.

That would be severely underwhelming, but possibly the best we can expect this late?

I'm still hoping against all hope that Arnold has a trick up his sleeve to bring us an actual 3B with some power, and a few years left of control.  It's a wish and a prayer!

Have to think they will add someone before getting to Arizona. It makes no sense going with whom they have currently

Presuming you mean to say that they should sign someone who is expected to make the 26-man roster, who among Dunn, Durbin, Perkins, and Black do you leave off the roster?

1. Trade Frelick who is being wasted as a 4th OFer instead of a starting CFer somewhere else and get a starting 3B back. Might be too late for that.

2. Dunn and Durbin both have options.

Frelick was the everyday starting RF for at least a couple months and won a Gold Glove.  How is that wasting him as a 4th OF?

Why would any of those players be locked for the 26 man roster?

Perkins is a skilled defensive player, but most likely will not see playing time if everyone stays healthy.

Dunn did not do much with his chance last year then suffered season ending injuries after being sent out.

Durbin has 300+ PAs above AA, and hasn’t debuted in the majors yet.

Black is a former first round pick currently with no path to everyday playing time.

While I hope they do not sign a player like Iglesias. It’s also probable none of those four players break camp with Milwaukee in 2025.

As much as I don't love Iglesias the player at this point, I wonder if what if what he could bring to the clubhouse intrigues the Brewers. He has a great reputation around the league, especially with the Latin players which could help with leadership off losing Willy. Can do a decent job covering all three infield spots even if he is probably better at 2nd than SS at this point. Probably has a slightly higher floor than Dunn or Durbin, worse case he is cheap and turns into a bench bat/spot start guy. He isn't going to be expensive, if it is him or just ride with what we have I would be fine with this signing.

If he isn't to expensive I would take Iglesias in a heart beat. However my guess is that his camp is trying to secure a multi year deal. Jorge Polanco got 1/7+ so my guess is Iglesias should get like 2/20 or 1/11-12. Iglesias did hit .331/.381/.448 for a 3.1 WAR with average defense at 2b and 3B (only a couple SS games) in half a year.

There are really only 3-4 veteran infielders left.

I think I’d rank them in this order as far as my desire for the brewers to add them:

1) Bregman, unlikely to happen

2) Dejong- good power bat, probably cheaper and more DFAable than Iglesias if he’s a total flop. Could probably play 2,3, or SS

3) Iglesias

4) Brendan Rodgers (biggest downside here is that I’m not sure if he can feasibly play any third base)

not sure any other available free agent infielder warrants a major league contract

Which is why a trade isn't fully out of the question...  As the days go by though, that is looking less and less likely..
