Does Quintana start on the IL if he isn't making his 1st start?

How could he though? He's not injured, just got a late start.

I would imagine it depends upon how his stuff looks tonight. If he looks fine and confident, I expect him to start even if it is just 4 innings.

I’m surprised by what Brewers.com has as starters for the opening series. Is that official?

While typically I would expect those 3 in that order. (Peralta, Cortes, Civale) I would also think there might be some consideration for keeping one of their more top end stretched out starters for their opening homestand.  This would also split up the days of likely high bullpen use.

My crazy idea:

Peralta

Keonig /E. Rodriguez - piggyback- Rodriguez gets sent down afterwards

Civale

Cortes

Quintana/Patrick piggyback or Henderson/Thomas

I expect lots of roster moves to keep the bullpen fresh in the first couple weeks if Uribe is on the team.

It seems like Collins vs. Margot. Collins seems a bit more likely to me (don’t need to clear a roster spot, can play second as well).

I much prefer Collins

Margot is washed

I have to say, I thought they'd go Durbin. I am very pleased they went Collins, Capra, and Bauers. Bauers earned it this spring with an improved approach. I support these moves.

Can Collins hit LHP? If so, this makes some sense.

Collin’s out of options iirc…..so they can preserve depth by keeping him and if he struggles make a move when warranted.

Collins has all 3 of his option years remaining. He was only added to the 40 man roster for the first time near the end of 2024. Capra is the one that is out of options.

Collins is a switch hitter. In theory, he has a solid chance against both lefties and righties. As we all know, he has yet to prove he can hit MLB hitting. As we all know, last season's sample was absurdly small.

Trying to remember-----weren't his splits close to even at AAA last season?

Yeah, .843 OPS vsRHP (375 PAs) and .837 OPS vsLHP (143 PAs) last year.

2023 at Biloxi he was more of a lefty killer with a 1.098 OPS in 129 PAs compared to a .703 OPS vsRHP (256 PAs).
