Time will tell. At the very least, it proves he's incredibly immature.

It doesn’t prove he’s a head case or incredibly immature… just that he made a mistake. Has he had other incidents like it?

He’s 24 years old and plenty of older “mature” players have done the same or worse.

To me it does. Like I've always said, though, that's only my opinion of him. The Brewers certainly weren't happy about it either, since was optioned back to AAA almost immediately after that game. For all we know, maybe there was more going on behind the scenes, with him, that we didn't hear about?

He appealed the suspension and wasn’t demoted until after pitching the next day against the Rays, so it wasn’t immediately after the game. Who knows what would have happened if he hadn’t injured himself after only 7 appearances in AAA.

Sort of a shame that you’ll paint him with such a broad brush after one public incident… if there was more behind the scenes, I’m sure we would have heard more when it happened.

I said almost immediately. Like the saying goes, 1st impressions mean everything.

I'd be willing to bet that everyone here has been judged from other people's first impressions of us. Sometimes they're right, and sometimes they're wrong. Like I said, with Abner, time will tell. We could use his power arm in the pen, so, hopefully my opinion of him is wrong.

Well, yeah, opinions are speculation. Basically.

But that wasn’t the first impression of him.

Other players get called fiery and passionate when they have a blow up or two not incredibly immature or a head case.

People make mistakes and we need to do a better job of giving them some grace and allowing them to change (not just in baseball but everywhere).  If they keep on doing the same or won’t change by all means label them.

Let's hope he learns from it then.

Yea that's probably why its best to take a step back and avoid knee jerk hot take reactions, which are usually overreactions.

Have you seen anything to indicate he hasn’t?

No. Have you seen anything that indicates he has? Look, it's only my opinion. If it looks like he learned from his mistake, then my opinion of will change. But only then though.

Yes he has. When he went back to AAA he actually had to serve a suspension there for his role in an benches clearing altercation from before he was promoted to Milwaukee in 2023. He's been known to be a bit emotional on the mound. @Joseph Zarr and @Spencer Michaelis can confirm from watching him in the minors that he's a bit of a hot head.

Fair.  I don’t remember that happening but he definitely wears his emotions on his sleeve.  Being a hot head doesn’t equate head case to me (not that you said that).

Quintana is getting paid 2 mil this year with 2 mil deferred to 2026. 15 mil mutual option for 2026.

Can confirm he has essentially always been of a heat-oriented mindset around the noggin while on the mound. Flamboyant. Showy. And, last year it really boiled over.

Hopefully, he has put the worst of his antics in the past. We shall see. He does seem to have come into ST a bit more calm and collected in interviews and he put a lot of extracurricular time in to be able to speak English in interviews. I'm rooting for him.

Uribe, Ashby, Hall, Woodruff, Misio, Yoho, Henderson, Gasser.

Those are eight talented pitchers that combined for about one win last year. I have a feeling they’ll combine for more than that this year.

For decades at a time we didn’t have eight pitchers that good on the entire staff, now they are essentially high upside depth pieces.

Wild times.
