Have to give Bert credit for that win against USC....but looking at the rest of the schedule....pretty questionable that they were a ranked team coming into this game.  Well they certainly won't be ranked after this performance.

It's ok to give UW credit

I guess they list him as a LB in the 2-5, but I consider Peterson a DE. And I would say his performance tonite was the best by a UW DL since a night around fourteen years ago when this guy who used to deliver pizzas with my nephew couldn't be blocked by Ohio State. Really good pressure from a lot of sources.

I have to credit the offensive game plan, using the legs of Smith, Kekahuna & others to offset the thin TB situation. And the OL is obviously better. After a disastrous start to the season at LT Heinzen seems to have found a home at C.

Don't know what kind of thrower he'll develop into, but Carter Smith is very slick & unpredictable with his ball handling. I can see where he can give a front seven just enough uncertainty to cause a crease for himself or a RB. Nice weapon.

I'll probably miss him for his cover skills when he's gone, but sometimes Rico Hallman drives me nuts. He seems to be one of these CBs who covers pretty well most of the time, puts himself into position.........and then doesn't finish the final one-tenth of the play by getting a hand on the ball or stripping the catch. Did it again tonight on the IL FG possession. But tonight that's a nit-pick. Happy for the SRs, really everyone on the squad who dug down deep in the last month.

I gave the Badgers credit after the Washington game.  I gave some thought before replying to this post, looked at the Badgers 2-6 record in the Big 10, and decided I would rather just criticize Illinois and Bert and leave it at that.  Sorry.

The Gophers are a 1 1/2 point favorite as I type this.  So it's basically a pick 'em.

Wisconsin has been playing better than Minnesota lately.  Two games ago the Gophers got torched by Oregon and then lost to Northwestern this last weekend.  Looking at the schedule, Minnesota only has one good victory, a 24-6 home win against Nebraska.

The problem with thinking that Wisconsin should have an "easier" game this weekend is that Wisconsin have 4 road games this year and have lost all 4 of those road games by at least 14 points.  Now it has to be pointed out that those games were against Alabama, Michigan, Oregon and Indiana...so even if Wisconsin had a good team those games were likely going to be losses.  Wisconsin as a road team is still a complete unknown when playing a ~.500 Big 10 team like Minnesota.

I felt there was a good chance that Illinois would come into last week's game flat since they were ranked but really had no chance of finishing better than 6th in the Big 10.  Minnesota is 4-4.  A win for them means they are a winning Big 10 team, a loss for them means they are a losing Big 10 team.  I have the feeling we will see their best effort this weekend.

If Bucky wins this weekend, maybe there will be some reflips with the recruits?  I really like how the program has turned around.  There is passion that I did not see at the beginning of the year.

Maybe Fickell didn't forget how to coach, but he might not have known what it means to be a Badger.  Let's get it done against the rodents!

Passion & physicality. I'm very surprised how things have turned around the last month.

It's gotten to the point re recruiting where you have to take everything with a little bit of skepticism until the LOI is actually signed. I've often wondered how nerve wracking it would be to be recruiting as a college coach, relying on the whims of teenagers & knowing that as positive as your visit went, he's visiting someone else in a week or two & can be swayed just as easily in another direction. Throw in the fact that cheating is now legal, and I don't blame guys like Tony Bennett one bit for pulling the plug.

Karma. Let's give a big shoutout to whoever convinced Fickell to s***can the vest.

Doesn't seem likely that any recruits would flip back.  I'd guess they are still working hard on offensive lineman Maddox Cochrane, who decommitted without having any other team lined up (he is from Richmond, VA and reportedly wants to play closer to home).

One of 247's reporters is projecting Louisville, KY linebacker Karsten Busch to Wisconsin.  3-star, #38 LB prospect in class.

There is a JUCO linebacker that is visiting named Taylor Schaefer.  He is from Brussels, WI and has been playing at Iowa Central Community College.

There are also 2 CBs on the radar, Julian Peterson (Atco, NJ) and Azel Banag (Columbia, SC).  People were all hot on Peterson prior to the entire city of Madison losing all interest in Badger football, so he was a coveted guy at one point.  Banag seemed like a fall-back option, but he recently got an offer from Oregon..

The 85 scholarship limit may be gone, but it's still a good baseline to use as to where the team is at.  I think the Badgers are currently 10 under, which is a big number at this point, as that number will grow with guys transferring out.  Only having 13 high schooler committed at this point has to be considered a major disappointment.  Fickell must do better in bringing in higher quality transfers.

OT-Brady Bekkenhuis flipped from Boston College to Wisconsin.

#39 ranked OT according to 24/7 composite rankings.

Ranked higher than either OL who decommitted and higher than any in-state OL.

Rumors floating around about another under-the-radar flip to UW.

With 13 minutes left in the second quarter, Michigan leads Ohio State 6-3.  I bet at least 20% of Ohio is crying for Ryan Day to be fired.

Smith looking like a freshman this game.  Missed Trech open twice in the last series.  Not sure if it is the weather or just a freshman not looking at all of his options downfield.

those interceptions were just horrible decisions by Simmons
