Weather aside this is a very good defensive effort against a good offense.

Defense looks to be a bright spot next year.  Still need to see more from Smith especially throwing the ball and the OL still needs work.

🤣 I've seen it attempted, you'd need heavy equipment and/or explosives at Camp Randall.

I'm trying to remember I was at the game in 1981 when we beat Ohio State for the first time in forever and I think they did tare them down.

That was a little before I started going.  But I saw them try on the day of The Crush, and then they really gave it a hell of a try on the night of Stocco's QB draw.  Both wins over Michigan of course, a couple all timers for my personal games attended.

Back in those days it was two wood poles I believe.

What an embarrassing loss for Washington.  We can talk about the travel and weather, but definitely weather should have played no role as what we saw is pretty typical northwest weather.

Have to give Wisconsin credit, they had no business winning this game, so they get props for pulling off the upset.

I give Grimes a lot of credit for this one. Given the conditions & the way the defense played, the way to blow this one was to make too many mistakes, lose patience & stop putting your eggs in the basket of field position & defense. He handled it well, & found a way to maximize Smith by keeping the ball in his hands, throwing very little & putting in a nice package that emphasized the thing that kid does real well---fake. I know people take that for granted but there were three or four times he had me faked out from my living room, thinking he handed it off when he kept the ball. And it's nice to see a TB run hard. Ituka with about 160 YD in two games vs some stout run defense.

Catalano & Posa, just wow. You aren't supposed to be that productive as true freshmen.

They're developing a nice pass rush. Sometimes Cheeks looks like he's shot out of a cannon.

I have to give props to Matt Jung for sticking right with the receiver on the long pass late in the game. A pretty sure tackler but I had doubts he had that kind of coverage skills in him.

See what can happen when the T.E.A.M. vest stays in the drawer?

Washington was pretty pathetic with their only TD being when they got the ball on the 1. Pretty even all around, it wasn't like Washington outplayed them and was just unlucky.

There's nothing typical about windy, cold, and wet. Except it typically results in offensive struggles. Yeah, it wasn't a warm weather team coming to town, but the weather absolutely played a role. I was there and you could see the weather's effects.

Now, Washington should have beat Wisconsin regardless, but the weather definitely played a role in limiting offensive options. Albeit, Wisconsin was almost totally ineffective with the passing game, it certainly looked like they'd have zero passing yards going into halftime. Washington certainly had more success there, but maybe it was foolish to try to pass as much as they did.

The Badger defense is what carried this game, obviously.  The thing I saw today that I have not seen all season is (to use Posa's term) "grit."  The defense was on fire and Smith was fine.  If they can play like that with passion and heart, I will be much more encouraged.

Funny how so much of the emotion and drive was coming from freshman.

Smith is not even close to ready.

He was playing the scout team QB until the bye week.

There's only so many snaps to go around in practice, and at least 95% go to the first and 2nd string QBs.

If you look at Chryst's last three recruiting classes...

I'm guessing he gets most of the work from here on out.

It looks like the end of the year for O’Neil.

He is also a Freshman.  How many Freshman QB's are ready to play year one?  Most are red shirted and then start the next year or the following year.  Even Arch Manning one of the highly rated recruits at QB was red shirted.  It is not typical for a true Freshman to start at QB unless well you are a once in a generation talent.
