Pirates at Brewers; Monday, June 23 @ 6:40 p.m.: Chad Patrick (3.50 ERA, 3.59 FIP) vs. B. Ashcraft (1.54 ERA)

Disappointing loss. I don't understand not pinch-hitting Rhys, but oh well. Let's get 'em tomorrow. I don't want to go down 0-2 in the series with Skenes on the hill.

A very disappointing loss.

The Pirates are a terrible team because they  have the worst offense in MLB.

But, their pitching is above average so if they score 5 runs or more they usually win. The problem is they don’t score 5 runs very often.

After tonight they are 5-2 when they score exactly 5 runs and 15-3 when they score 5 or more.

In my book this loss is on the pitching.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Thanks Mears.

If our expectation of Mears is for him to be perfect every game, we are in trouble. He’s been pretty dang good.

Patrick was ineffective again and we had a several opportunities for more offense and couldn’t push more runs across.

Heck, if Frelick doesn’t misplay that “triple” that Mears gave up, this is probably headed to extras right now.

I'm ready to maybe move Turang up to 2 spot and drop Jackson lower in the order. If not going to take a pitch or put the ball in play drop down. Yelich needs guys on base while he's hot

Seems like every time I watch Mears pitch he allows a runner to score. Granted, I don't watch every game.

Last gave up a run on May 28th vs the Red Sox. Had pitched 9 times (8 IP) without giving up a run coming into today. In fact, aside from an awful spell in late May (19/5- 28/5) in which he gave up 6 runs in 5 appearances, he has only allowed runs in 2 of 28 appearances

Pittsburgh K'd sixteen times in the game. That leaves 11 outs. They had two on the bases, one on a batter-runner. So when they put the ball in play they made ten outs, and had fourteen hits--and one of those outs was ON a base hit. That's sort of ridiculous. It isn't enough to have Reynolds get it in gear every time we face them, not to mention Frazier who didn't play, but now it's "Hi, my name is Nick Gonzalez. I'm going to go five-for-five like it's a slowpitch softball game!!!" Very annoying team.

Some of their young arms were pretty impressive though.

Gotta feel for Durbin.

I stand corrected.

I like Turang higher up in the order, but I doubt you'll see that because you'll have three LHH in a row, or 3 out of four. He seems to be effective in the 5 or 7 hole so I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

Chourio is an immense talent that, watching him at the plate, seems to be a living example of the cliches "Trying to do too much" & "Not letting the game come to him". It's rough to watch him sometimes chase, sometimes miss or foul off hittable pitches. He had the (IIRC) three-walk game in Minnesota, which to me was a great sign. But very little since then.

I think he'll be allowed to figure it out while hitting in front of Yelich. Certainly been frustrating, but at his age probably impossible to avoid.

That’s a killer. If you’re going to try stealing there, you need to know you’re going make it. Otherwise, not worth the risk.

I believe they said the last time Joey Bart threw out a runner was exactly one month ago. And he didn't actually 'throw out' anyone tonight, Durbin just didn't keep the bag. And with the LHH up that was a pretty good time to try it.

I'm a little surprised Cameron didn't go during the Frelick AB.
