Really need a big stick for the middle of the order.

Unfortunately that's getting exceedingly rare in these pitcher dominant times.

Monster bad walk.... Just monster.

You can’t do that in front of Ohtani… but he went around.

Yes he did but that just can't happen.

It wouldn’t have if the 3rd base umpire had done the job that he gets paid for correctly.

The check swing was terrible, as was pitch 2 to Ohtani that was right at the bottom of the zone. He needs to stop being "rewarded" when he steps away from a borderline pitch. I don't know if that's what is happening but that has been called a strike several times against MKE today.

Bauers is one of those guys who is going to have a long MLB career and I really don’t understand why.

Because this isn't the steroid or live ball era anymore.

Among 49 players with at least 100 PAs at 1B this season, Bauers is 25th in wRC+, 30th in fWAR.  He's literally an average 1B - a starter for a bad team, a good backup for a good team.

How about for his career?

He's literally below replacement level for his career.

And using an arbitrary 100 ABs at the position among 49 players with 30 MLB teams to call him an “average 1B” is the best possible example of how anyone can use stats to state any narrative they’d like.

He is going back to the doghouse with that ab.

I don’t know what is going on. His pitch selection is horrendous. It’s like he’s just not seeing the ball at all. I don’t know what the answer is but he may need to go down for awhile if it doesn’t improve.

Miz and Quintana are pretty much exact opposites as pitchers, but same equally impressive result.

Quintana is one of those guys where the results always exceed the stuff, somehow. I’m not huge on the “smart, savvy veteran” rhetoric but it definitely applies here.

Then how exactly would you normalize the data to account for differences in the number of plate appearances, a bench player who is behind a better starter, a player who has missed time due to injuries, a player who plays multiple positions, etc.

Don't say what not to do - say what to do instead.
