Phillies players join their fans in whining.  They would like (non-) participation trophies for Suarez (declined to pitch, so MLB passed) and Sanchez (pitching today).

When I saw another article about this at first I was sympathetic since it just cited the stats for Suarez and Sanchez. Which on its face, is a totally legitimate argument. However I read over note above about them not even being realistic candidates, which makes the outrage ridiculous.

Both of whom their fans will boo if their next starts are bad.

Don't forget, Philadelphia Eagles fans also pelted a man dressed as Santa Claus with snowballs at an Eagle game. Whining, moaning , complaining, anger and hate all come with Philly. "The city of brotherly love." LOL

The bluster around adding Miz after a handful of MLB starts to the AS Game is just something for the baseball world to debate when there aren't games going on.  Seems like before Miz was asked, half the rotation arms in the NL were asked if they would like to be an All Star provided they were willing to pitch in the game, and they declined.  Absent MLB just replacing all pitchers with a batting tee and turning the Midsummer Classic into the baseball equivalent of the NFL Pro Bowl carnival games, I don't know why people are upset at all about the most electric young arm in baseball adding to MLB's showcase to a national audience.

The Phillies pitchers miss out on five or six figure performance bonus by not being named to ASG.

Bingo.  This is where I assumed all the issues would be from with the union.

So... they expect to be named and All-Star so they can decline but still get a bonus? 🙄

You probably saw Juan Soto's comments on leaving "a lot of money on the table" by not making the all star team. So I am sure missing the all-star bonus was an aspect of the reaction.

On the subject of Soto, he would have gotten a $100k bonus.

Or, as I like to call it, .01% of his $765 million contract. Seems to me if you get a contract like that, the baseline expectation should be all-star.

I am disappointed in Brewerfan.  Not one comment about how Misiorowski was picked for the All Star game to make him more expensive in arbitration forcing the Brewers to trade him to a big market! His All Star appearance is also the only way to get him Rookie of the Year votes since he is like the 5th best rookie on the Brewers. Again meant to cost the Brewers a year of service time do he ends up in New York or LA!

I think I saw at least one of the Phils pitcher was still given the bonus. Presumably, his agent pointed out to the team he declined the invite but still deserves it and Phils said yes.   So if they did it for one and word got out, they probably did it for the other if it was in his contract.

Makes sense to do.  Reports said Suarez got the call to be a replacement and declined since he spent time on the IL and believes it's better for him and the team if he rests.  A strange position to be in to take a bonus to do something he finds detrimental to his team.

Brewers call was probably something of the opposite: Brewers probably aren't thrilled to have Miz pitch, but Murph wasn't going to deny him a chance to be an All Star.

If you want or need the ASG bonus that badly, then accept the offer of being named an all star with the caveat you need to be available to pitch....or be better at pitching so you're named to the initial all star team and can decline to pitch respectfully.

The only reason Miz made the AS team was because these other pitchers declined to be under the same conditions before he was even extended that invite.  To then have teammates complain to the media publicly on your behalf is just childish.

Miz had 97 pro innings pitched last season. He's at 89 or 90 including All Star game.  Will Milw put him in the bullpen after another start or 2? What's his limit going to be? 130-140? Do they just give him starts til like reaches 140 and end his season?  This could leave him short on RoY voting because lack of starts.  The Brewers will have to put him in the bullpen if they want an innings limit to reach the postseason.
