Yeah Mears was awful but this game was lost when the offense failed to hammer Cal freakin Quantrill, who looked like the second coming of Cy Young today.

He was one of those short term cult hero type players. I don’t think people fully remember how good he was at everything when he was totally on, though. Power, speed, and defense.

His flaw unfortunately was a major one. His bat had an enormous hole in it.
