Is it too early to start predicting who will be the Brewers 2025 AFL players?

I am thinking Quero has to be a lock?  I don't think they will want Pratt, Made or Pena to participate at least not this year.  This would be the most games Pratt has ever played so I think he would be eliminated as a possibility.  Maybe Josh Adamczewski has an outside chance to make it to the AFL?  Blake Burke is also someone I think the Brewers would be looking at for the AFL.

The reason I think Quero is a lock is because of the number of games he has played this year.  I think he will finish with less than 100 games and I believe the Brewers will want to get him in more game action this year and the AFL would allow for that.  Also there are only three other major catching prospects that would be likely in the AFL for Surprise Carter Jensen (Royals), Cooper Ingle (Guardians) and Blake Mitchell (Royals).  I don't believe the Royals would do both Jensen and Mitchell.  So I think Quero would go but I think he was there in 2022.  I can't remember if there is still a rule or if there is where a player can only be on an AFL roster once.

For pitchers I am not sure who would be available with innings left to pitch.  Maybe Coleman Crow but I think he has to be reaching his innings limit by now?  I think it is a year too early for Payne to be in the AFL.

I think guys like Adamczewski, maybe Payne, Dinges as options.

Quero is an interesting option- not sure that they have sent players who were in AAA much recently- but I may be completely wrong.

Also Luke Adams if healthy could be another consideration.

Crow has been on the IL since July 18th. Health, not innings limit, is the question. If Crow has a very serious injury, Brewers would need to consider not adding him to the 40-man, at which point he would qualify as a minor league free agent.

Thanks haven't been following the minors as much this year.

Pitchers are so hard to predict for the AFL roster.

I'd like to see Luke Adams, Payne, and Josh A.. Dinges and Quero wouldnt be bad but with the wear and tear of catching just getting either to an offseason program might be better. I think Mike Boeve might be a good option kind of in a similar boat to Wilken last year.

Letson would be a good idea since they don't over work guys. There aren't as many obvious arms.

Do we even know if Boeve will be healthy in time for the AFL? Poor guy is turning into another Garrett Mitchell.

Only difference is Mitchell actually performed quite well when he was healthy. Outside of that end of '23 and amazing start to '24 Boeve has not had very much production. Hopefully he recovers well and gets back to the early '24 form. This is why you draft/sign for depth. You need 3-4 prospects at a position to get one who will fulfill that role.

So as I understand it Wilken is ineligible, which is unfortunate as he could use a crapload of at-bats.

Short of that I agree with @jay87shot. Boeve, or perhaps Adams.

Why would he be ineligible?  He hasn't played in the majors yet.  You can go to the AFL twice - Jordan Clarke did so in 2022 and 2024.

I wasn't aware you could go twice. Knowledge of AFL eligibility rules isn't my strong suit😐.

In that case, I think he should definitely go.

Matt Wood (I seem to recall that if teams send a catcher they get a priority selection at another position)
Luke Adams
Josh Adamczewski
Brock Wilken

Brian Fitzpatrick
Stiven Cruz
Brett Wichrowski

Why Adams over Burke?

Wood and Adamczewski make sense but I think Quero makes more sense over Wood.

I am not sure the Brewers will do Wilken again.

Because Adams missed a big chunk of the season.  He's only played 60 games this year.

I’d think that Adamczewski and Boeve should play in the AFL to get some defensive work.

Linebacker Adams would probably destroy AFL pitching, though I guess it’s worked out for Durbin. Kind of wish we could send Adams to Dominican Winter Ball to face older pitching.

I really want to see Burke in the AFL.

Blake has the 2nd most games & PA in the system this year just behind Lara.

Would probably mash in the hitter friendly AFL environs (especially if the BLX power surge carries over) but could also see the Brewers prioritizing players who didn’t play as much during the season.

I think this would be my AFL wish-list:

Wilken

Adams

Quero

Letson

Crow (if healthy)

Fitzpatrick (or another reliever profile that the org is somewhat high on)

Adamczewski too, no?  To attempt to replace some of his missed PAs against a mix of pitching levels.

I definitely wouldn't hate it if Josh was added to the roster with those guys.  I just prioritized those other bats since they're all further up the system from a development standpoint.  But, if they want to get Josh A. some additional AB's in the AFL this year, I'm all for it.

Looks like Adams, Dinges, and Adamczewski are the prospects in the AFL.

Pitchers are much less impressive. Hopefully that means everyone is in the lab for the offseason.

Love the fact Jimenez is likely healthy enough to get live game action. That's huge for him. Fowler definitely flashed upside with Carolina. Flores and Broca have had really solid moments throughout their seasons but they both need to continue fine tuning their precision and mix. Brocas likely has the higher upside here but don't sleep on Flores' savvy. Wichrowski I absolutely want to see him go the route of the RHP Will Childers four-seamer evolution we saw in the AFL. Gotta see it. As he currently stands, and I wrote about it in last night's report, it is a net negative pitch despite his velocity. These are all good AFL candidates on the pitching side.
