Do we really have to wait until the 16th to get Megill back.   Cripes

He’d be eligible to come off the IL a little before that. Remember that the IL for pitchers is 15 days.

But the Brewers have said that he is on a schedule to hopefully return by September 16. I’d be surprised if he’s back that soon.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Completely, and it isn't really about Bauers. He is who he is, which is basically a replacement level player (at best). He is 29 and has had like 1700 ABs. When you have an above-average sitting at AAA, why are you waiting on Bauers to suddenly become Freddy Freeman?

I just do not buy, in any way, the idea that it's too much to ask to carry two RH-hitting, exclusively 1B/DHs. Teams carry 3 catchers in September, man. Plus, Bauers is not really playing the OF, either. He is 1B and DH. At the very least, this club needs to do a better of arguing its case (which is impossible, because there is no serious case). Everyone can see it but Murph/the org.

Again, I'm not thinking this is any kind of solution. Like I said, I don't even think it matters that much. But I would love for someone to make the case for Bauers belonging on this roster in a way that makes sense.

I'll try. Mind you, I'm looking at this through the prism of the organization.

In the postseason you'll have Vaughn & Hoskins. They both need to be PR for if it's a late-inning important run. That will probably be Bauers because you may also want to hit for Ortiz & don't want to burn Monasterio. You could also use Siegler as the PR but I think they're far from certain he'll be on the PS roster. That's why they signed Urias. If Urias IS on the roster, he really isn't a good PR candidate from what I remember when he was here. Perkins can do it, but as tonite showed he may be a late-inning guy for Collins with Chourio moving to LF. Also, Bauers may be a defensive sub late, especially for Hoskins.

He also might be a choice for a PH appearance. Not because he's any good, but just because Murphy wants to see how many Brewerfan members he can get to jump off a bridge.

I'm not a huge Bauers fan, but I recognize situations where he might be beneficial, and with PS rosters being what they are you can carry someone like that. If Tyler Black was having a better season it would maybe be him. And if you needed to carry 13 pitchers in the PS Bauers' chances would be slim & none to be carried.

I feel way better about Uribe closing games than Megill

I’d like to hear your reasoning here….because I think I agree with you.

I could not see or listen to the game today…this forum saves lives. But, I hope there was conversation in thread about our RISP woes of late.

This is why Yelich is so important mentally for the team. I think our boys are more clutch with him in the lineup.

A 1.87 ERA and 1.10 Ratio

In 29 appearances since the start of July he's given up 4 runs.

Closing is mental as much as physical, maybe more so. A closer has to deliver when everything is on the line. Double or triple that pressure in playoff baseball. Not a lot of guys do well in that situation. Uribe is getting there as he pitches more in the ninth, but I think Megill is already there.  I'm sure we all have an idea about how well Devin handled it.

Great point. I wouldn't have a big problem with it being Uribe, but part of that equation would be Megill pitching the 8th, or 7th. It SHOULD'NT be an issue, but relievers can be strange birds.

Megill HAS only given up one earnie in his last four games, with 7 Ks & one BB. Bring him back healthy, and it's a nice situation to have.

Isn’t he pitching in bullpen already.    We just need another decent relief arm soon.   I don’t care where we pitch him.   He doesn’t have to be a closer

the 16th is long ways away.    He won’t be ready then?

Yelich is definitely a legendary brewer but you can’t be hurt every September for godsakes.    We need him

and do the giants have a chance to make it?

Uribe can close. Megill has had a rough stretch, but we know he can too.

Not a bad problem to have. I’d like them both effective, rested and healthy for the playoffs.

I get that.

I have been watching ball for 50 years.

I think Uribe has "it". I get nervous when Megill pitches, I don't with Uribe.

Devin Williams was not good for your heart, then.

Great game.  Nice seeing Priester with win #11.  Making it into the 7th while under 100 pitches was gravy.

But the moment of the game was when my wife walked into the living room and asked if I was watching "one of those banana games".  Not the best look for Pittsburgh.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

12-2 with a 3.25 ERA.  Ten games over .500

Only the Phillies and Cubs have a shot at catching the Brewers in the NL.  The Dodgers are toast.

Yep.   And I will go on record of the brewers ever get back to 6.5 ahead of the cubs we will win the division.

Priester

Uribe

Durbin

Turang

Collins

Ashby

Frelick

Even Blake Perkins.  Without even getting into more brand name players like Peralta, Yelich, Chourio, Contreras, Woody, or even the hyped Miz, this org has a type and it’s seen in how they have been identifying guys with grit, who are team oriented, and make the little plays to win.  I bet they targeted Lockridge and Siegler similarly.  Pitchers like Henderson and Gasser.  Synergy and chemistry over buying every star they can a la the Dodgers.
