Getting to be that time of year that we'll start seeing some new prospect reports, lists, rankings, et cetera being released.

Looks like FanGraphs updated their Top 100 heading into the offseason...

#2 Jesus Made (65 FV)
#29 Luis Pena (50 FV)
#56 Cooper Pratt (50 FV)
#89 Jeferson Quero (50 FV)
#90 Logan Henderson (50 FV)

MLB.com updated their top 100 and maaaaybe their top 30’s? I swear ours looks a little different.

Blake Burke being our #29 is insane.

I think mlb.com updated there top 100 but I don't believe they updated the top 30. If they did, almost nothing changed.

BA has a pay article about pitching statcast data, and our group basically grades out at the bottom of their “Stuff+” metrics.

However… While we are very low on their grades, there are certain things that we are very much outliers on while being poorly rated.

Fastballs? Pretty much bottom tier in everything, but then top 10 in vertical attack angle.

Sliders? Ranked at the bottom, but #2 in spin. Vertical break? 27th. Horizontal break? 3rd.

Curves? Terrible again, but #1 in spin and again at the top for horizontal break along with vertical attack angle.

Are we just being weirdos? Maybe we get downgraded for having so many 18 year olds that haven’t quite gotten the velocity bump yet? It seems like we are doing stuff that BA doesn’t seem to agree with on their metrics while also kind of being great at stuff that they undervalue (slow velocity, spin, attack angle, horizontal break).

Id love to hear what some of our more metric-centric guys around here take from the data.

Quero is a hit first catcher?  I dont think they spent much time reviewing him.

His defensive skills....the throwing in particular.....have been downgraded after his injury. But the downgrade should be taken with a grain of salt b/c he was looked at as being elite before being hurt. From what I understand he's still looked at as a pretty solid performer behind the plate, just not quite at the previous level.

I agree that calling him 'hit first' is not an accurate assessment.

To be honest, for the perspective of the fan who visits this forum, this video combined interview with Blake Burke and Brock Wilken doesn't really pick up steam until the 24:20 minute mark.

The minor league talk begins in full at that point, and at the 26:40 minute mark, Wilken indicates he's going to have a knee scoped, will be in Arizona for a couple of months rehabbing, but feels he'll be good to go by January.

This article is why I’m so pumped for all these high school arms coming up.

We are looking at the things in a pitcher that gets this kind of write up as a $25k senior sign in those 17 year olds that we’ve been signing by the bucketful.

My “Pepe Silvia” post above from BA’s Stuff+ article pretty much says the same thing. All our spin metrics are off the charts, and underage. If we get velocity bumps out of these guys, we are sitting on a goldmine.

Very fun (and, potentially surprising to those who don't know the system like we do) RHP Carlos Carra shine in Thomas Nestico's new '2026 Breakout Pitching Prospects for each Team'. Love this. His 'Honorable Mention'? RHP Manuel Rodriguez - who we all know (via late season interviews) will be working on velo for the first time this off-season. For those of you who have MiLB.TV access, you can still go back and watch his two impressive late season starts as a Mudcat (8/31 and 9/7).

My favorite thing about the universal Deberry, Holobetz, and Hardin love from the 2024 draft class is that it implies we know what we are looking for and are on to something big (while ignoring the 6 high school pitchers signed from the same class).

Is Fielder a true prospect, or just coasting along on his Daddy's name?

Seriously, is he someone we need to keep an eye on?

Out of 156 batters with at least 100 PA in the Arizona Complex League this year Fielder's 137 wRC+ ranked 17th so he at least put up some numbers to go along with the last name.

Things working against him are that he was old for the league and already primarily a left fielder so he's going to have to keep hitting all the way up to have any kind of shot.

Also worth noting in a "read between the lines" kind of sense is that despite being the oldest player on the team, Jadyn spent the whole season on the Complex while a number of younger position players got the bump up to Carolina throughout the summer.

They did highlight Ethan Dorchies in that mlb.com article- so didn’t ignore all of them. He was mentioned as a possible break out prospect.

Let me be dramatic.

All the articles that have come out lately on those college guys have been very cool though, even Holobetz (RIP). Gives an insight into what we are looking for and building off of.

I can’t remember being this excited about our system since the Weeks / Fielder / Braun days. Less talented at the top now, but the confidence in the competence has never been higher.
