I think it's kind of a compliment to this team that I still have some non-fantastical vision of winning this series. Like I expect them to still go out and play like they think they can win, which isn't always the case.

This is a bummer. I really did not see this version of this team going out like this.

Brewers getting a lot of criticism on using the openers and Ashby certainly showing some signs of wear...but that Ohtani sticking the bat out was some serious mid season Brewers luck. It's not like Miz is going more than he did anyway. They've given up 10 runs in 3 games with a barebones rotation and a bullpen on fumes...against the best lineup in the game. It's not the pitching or the management...it's amazing they've done as well as they have with what they have.

Outside of Bauers their LH bats look utterly lost. They are facing great pitching but there have been places to apply more pressure than they have. Treinen still looks every bit of the garbage he's been the last two months and Turang swings at uncompetitive pitch Monday then others swinging through meatballs yesterday. Raleigh or Vladdy will chew that guy up hard.

Open with Ashby followed by 4 IP from Uribe!

The bad part about losing to LAD is that we haven't figured out who our closer actually is anymore...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

So how does the DH work in this game for LAD?  I'm assuming there is no DH and Ohtani hits for himself, but when they pull him as a pitcher, can they put him in the DH spot?

May his playoff pitching be as bad as his playoff hitting!

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it's normal DH rules. So they won't have a DH. I recall earlier in the season there was talk about Ohtani possibly shifting to OF once he's "pulled" off the mound so he can stay in the game but I don't know if he's actually done any of that or not.

MLB made the Ohtani rule so he can stay in as DH.

I just went to some game logs after I posted and saw that this was the case.

The pitching choices have not hurt the Brewers outcomes in the slightest. Considering the opponent, it mostly worked out as intended. I can't pin this on one guy or moment, but that Turang Game 1 9th inning AB felt like the hole in the life boat.

Well, if Uecker magic exists, buckle your seatbelts.

Last night was the first time I feel like the script finally flipped on UM.

Up until then it followed the classic sine  wave plot line almost perfectly…ugly first four games and slow start in general to sow the seeds of doubt, insane stretch in the middle with not one but two double digit win streaks (& free burgers), then the coast into the finish line to get some of those doubts back but still did just enough to set the franchise win record on the last day of the season. Win two, then lose two, before knocking out the Cubs at home.

Even losing the first two against LAD follows UM, sets them up perfectly for the out of nowhere improbable comeback…but dropping G3 moves it to an almost impossible comeback at this point.

The last bit of Uecker Magic appears to have been exhausted on that nutso Frelick play.

This franchise in road playoff games has been terrible.

6-22 all time. 10 straight losses and counting. And 3-19 dating back to Game 2 of the 1982 World Series.

Seems more random than anything. Don't know our home record but that probably isn't great. We've advanced 3x in my life and two of those required a decisive game 5.

This is actually the first time I've realized we've never won a 7-game series.

Wonder if I will be turning the game off early again tonight?  Never thought I would shut off any of the games in the NLCS because the Brewers were so dreadfully comatose.   So far 3 of 3.  Yep, I missed frantic bottom of the 9th on Monday.  However, I did catch Turang striking out on a pitch at least a foot high on Gameday.

Murphy needs to name Quintana and actually manage a traditional baseball game.   These 'openers' really do show a lack of confidence or at times incompetence.

Lamenting the openers just feels like spleen venting. Ashby to go lefty lefty made sense. It's Brewers baseball. Those openers haven't lost these games. We can't hit.

I'll stick this one out. Even if it's ugly we're about to lose baseball for 6 months.

Being tbd every single day in the playoffs is ridiculous. You can't win that way. Murphy seems like he's trying to trick a team that has more talent. Just go traditional pick some starting pitchers and let the chips fall.

Yes, MLB implemented a special Ohtani rule that allows the starting pitcher to rotate to DH if so desired.

I have no issues with using an opener, not even a little bit. My problem 100% revolves around using the same opener, against the same hitters, and just generally abusing a couple of relievers while several other decent arms ride the pine.

You cannot expect Aaron Ashby to succeed when he has to face Shohei Ohtani four times in five days. Ohtani (and Freeman) are going to figure him out at some point; it's inevitable.

The Brewers' primary weapon is depth, and Murphy isn't using it, like at all.

I guess one can always take appreciation in the fact it wasn’t another choke job in the books. Honestly, they played better this series than I assumed going in. Our pitching showed up and balled out. But as I said before the series, the starting pitching is so lopsided in the Dodgers favor it isn’t even funny. Beating that was going to be a tall ask. Our hitters aren’t elite, even the good ones aren’t exactly All Star forces. Seems more likely to depend on lesser pitching stopping elite bats than it is for middling hitting to hit against the elite pitchers of the game.

Also, I’ll go against the grain a bit, I think Murphy’s pitching decisions were great. Every single one of them to be honest. We held them the 2/5/3 runs. The 5 run game involved 3/5 runs coming from our ace. Not sure what more you could ask for. While I thought using Uribe mid game in tight spots was bold…it was the right decision. Use your best guys when you need them most. No point waiting to be down 5 runs. Reality is, we were going to live or die on the backs of Ashby/Uribe pitching a lot. They weren’t going to chill and pitch every 3-4 days.

No need to sugar coat it, we never had a chance…and to no fault of our own. Maybe someday that changes, but for now, it’s time to just watch another big market trot to the World Series. History has told this story over and over again.
