Clarke would have my vote even if the bat isn't there the Lorenzo Cain vibes are nice.

Only 159 PA, but with a 3.8 BB% and 38.4 K% in his MLB debut it's more like Keon Broxton vibes.

Walk rate was better in the minors at 11.9% over 1,332 PA, but the K rate was still downright scary at an even 30%.

Yeah, I didn't really look at the stats. You are right the the bat is worse than I was thinking, maybe he would be the 2nd piece in a trade.

Baz has more control so he has more value but I would guess some of the guys that were traded were also discussed with the Brewers for Freddy.

It’s possible, but I think Arnold would be looking at guys much closer to big leagues, like Mayo, Beavers and Gibson. Rays got more prospects in the deal because they were ok getting guys further away from the big leagues.

Just my thoughts, Baz doesn’t have near the value that Freddy has. His numbers suck and his medical history is terrible.

Does Baz have more value than Skubal?? Geez

Freddy is my favorite Brewer and it will be a sad day to see him go - a true Brewer through and through - if they do trade him, seeing what the Rays got for Baz makes me extremely bullish on the haul the Crew could get for Peralta. Baz doesn’t have near the value Freddy does to a contending team.

Why? I mean the Rays got a decent group of players but it is questionable if any of them break the top 10 in the Brewers system. And Baz has way more value than Peralta with 3 years vs 1 year.

Agree.

Not overly impressed with the player return. The 33rd pick makes the total return decent, but no more than that as far as I’m concerned.

Based on Fangraphs' prospect tiers (updated '25, as they haven't yet updated Baltimore system), the return for Baz was something along the lines of Dinges, Ebel, Lara, and CRod.

Seems like a lot, but Baz is controllable for 3 seasons. If he's merely a solid mid-rotation guy, it probably works out except for the always-present risk that one of the prospects becomes a stud.

The trade values for Freddy and Baz are wildly different, depending on how much people like the present and future value of the two. Freddy's been healthy, Baz has been broke, Freddy is an inexpensive pending FA coming off a career year, Baz is a still-developing guy that had really inconsistent results --- much of which was driven by home/road splits.

They both have value, but they are hard to compare due to those differences.

I agree with your first point but disagree with your second.

Freddy's 3 years older than Baz and a far better pitcher than Baz.  Baz's best year (by bWAR) is better than only 1 of Freddy's last 5 (in 2022, when Freddy was out for nearly half the year).  Maybe Baz becomes what Freddy is.  Freddy's already proven he is what he is, and that's a whole lot more than Baz is right now.  The $8M salary this year is a huge value factor that I'd think mitigates some of the greater value you posit that Baz has by being 3 years away from FA.

Supposedly Yankees are talking to us regarding Freddy.

Just heard on MLB Network radio.

Freddy to NYY for Elmer Rodriguez and Ben Hess.  Who says no to that?

The only way I trade him to the Dodgers is if we can bleed them dry.  No bargains or question marks, BLEED THEM DRY if they want him.  Screw LA.

Agree, I would go for Alex Freeland, Mike Sirota, and Jackson Ferris just on principal if they want Freddy. Maybe have them throw in one of their pitchers coming off Tommy John just for good measure.

Add one of their outfielders and I say yes. Dominguez or Jones. when we have teams looking at Freddy, we hold the advantage.

Cunningham and Dominguez would be what I'd want from NY, and I'd be willing to sweeten the deal with Megill if needed.

Ken Rosenthal excepts us to trade Peralta and said we'll get in excess of what we acquired for Burnes.

Recent big trade history is poor imo.

Which recent big trade(s) turned out poorly for the Brewers?
