The Just Baseball pod suggested the following return from Yankees:

Gil

Lagrange

Jones

Strictly from a value standpoint, I think this feels like a very solid package. Two top 100 prospects in Lagrange and Jones…and then the 2024 ROY in Gil. I know Gil is coming off of a Lat strain last year, so that might be a bit of a concern and of course Jones is one of the most polarizing prospects in all of baseball so we’d have to feel good that we could work with him on his swing so that he could lower his K rate moving forward.

Curious for thoughts on this package.

I would be satisfied with that package.

Not interested at all in Jones or Gil. There's basically zero precedent of success for players with as severe of contact issues as Jones in AAA. He makes Keston Hiura look like Nico Hoerner. He screams bust or severely limited role player at best.

Gil likewise comes with major red flags in his injury history and peripherals. He has a higher BB% than  Misiorowski over his career and his K% declined by over 10 points last year.

I really hope they steer clear of these two guys.

Do we think the Yanks getting Weathers takes them out on Freddy now? They’re getting Cole and Rodon back as season goes on, so you could make a real case that they may not need Freddy now.

I would say yes.  I think the Yankees pivoted from Peralta to Weathers once they found out the Brewers asking price.

Yeah, I’m assuming the same.

Id do that Boston trade in a heart beat.

The Boston trade needs to be beefed up before I'd do it. I like Tolle and I believe the Brewers could do something good with him. However Sandlin isn't much and certainly not even a decent second piece for Peralta. I wouldn't even consider the Dodger offer in the article. The Yankees would have to come up with somebody besides Jones. The Braves offer is far too weak to consider. I think if the Mets put Tong in place of Sproat I'd seriously think about the deal. Sproat looks to be a #5 type and little or no help. Tong has the stuff where Milwaukee's pitching clinic could make him a #2-3. Reimer is a nice second piece.

Boston or Yankees.

The news story with Yankees offering Luis Gil for Freddy,  how is it Gil won Roy in 2024, is 1st year Arb eligible 2026 has 3 years control left? So not even a Super 2.

I'd trade Freddy for Tolle straight up. 6/6+ years of Tolle for one of Freddy in my opinion is great value. 119 stuff+ and 68 bot stuff in his brief MLB sample last year as a 22 year old. I think Tolle has a good chance of becoming a Top 5/10 LHP in MLB. A Misiorowski-Tolle top of the rotation the next half decade makes me salivate

100%, the high upside and bets likelihood to hit of any arms coming back in the proposed trades, though full credit to JB who I think have done well enough with each of their suggestions to keep it even.

Its also important to say the Brewers will consider themselves trading Freddy Peralta and a 90%+ chance of a comp A pick in the 2027 draft as part of their calculations on the return, and the Red Sox return is the one that certainly looks to have the most upside.

Tolle's command and swing and miss arsenal are held together by a deceptive delivery and great spin efficiency. His K-BB% rate (one of the best indicators of success in baseball) was 25.4%!

He only had 67 games at AAA - Need more of a sample than that.

He had over 700 PA at AA between 2024 and 2025. In this PA his contact rate was right around 60%.

I agree with several others that the Boston proposal is the strongest by a fairly significant margin

Feel like he is pretty hit or miss but he's not a nobody. Padres have been rumored to be interested in Freddy but I'm not really sure there's a trade that makes much sense there because Brewers typically prioritize an MLB ready return and the Padres don't have anything like that to offer the Brewers

Assuming the Padres aren't trading Salas you are likely building a trade around Mendez and maybe Hawkins since he is major league ready? The Padres have basically no farm system.

Padres could build a nice(ish?) package but it would be almost entirely lottery tickets. I'd be fine with that, but I don't see Arnold and Mark going for it.

I feel the best they could offer is Vasquez, but that's three sub-optimal fastballs helped by a very effective sweeper. He does throw all three fastballs which is something the Brewers like, but I'm not sure it's a profile they'd love unless you squint a bit

The only way this really takes off is if the Padres package some of their recent young, high upside low floor arms along with someone like Vasquez. Perhaps adding Kruz Schoolcraft and Kash Mayfield might give the brewers a high floor filler with some exciting TOP potential arms, but even then the Padres might need to add more.

While Schoolcraft and Mayfield are #2 and #4 in the Padres system, they're closer to a #8-15 in the Brewers system, and might need another lottery piece in there to fill things out

Yeah, the more and more I look at the Padres farm system, it's just really hard to figure out how a trade would come together between these two teams?  If the Brewers were the Rays, I think a deal could definitely get done since the Rays value getting younger, higher ceiling/lower floor type guys back in trades.  But, since we're in a "win now" mode and want MLB ready pieces, it's tough to figure out how this would work.  Like others have said, I guess you could go with a package like Vazquez, Schoolcraft/Mayfield and either Mendez/Rodriguez?  I guess I wouldn't hate a package like that coming back, but I really don't love Vazquez's lack of a K rate and in this scenario I think you'd have to feel good that either Mendez or Rodriguez could stay as SP's and aren't going to end up in the pen. Getting either Schoolcraft or Mayfield would be the lotto ticket in this package and you'd be adding them into the next "wave" of pitching prospects alongside guys like Letson, Dorchies, etc. that would be 3-4 years away.

I guess I am less worried about getting guys that could help us this year. Get the best players available.

There are lots of interesting players left in free agency that we could maybe dip into with that money.
