Game 13: Bears @ Packers - Sunday, Dec. 7th @ 3:25 PM

Posted

It looks colder on Sunday every day I check the forecast. I don't know who it favors, sometimes opponents are not ready for the field conditions and slip around but Bears were just here in January. I know the bears have great running game but we like to run too and usually get better late season. I am hoping Bears due for a comeuppance and we will rout them but cold weather can mean a low scoring game and those haven't been great for us.  Hopefully Reed and Golden are back, I have seen more than enough of Melton.

Bad/slippery field conditions probably don't impact the Bears much at all, since they get to play their home games on the worst playing surface in the NFL every year.

I do think the cold temps could impact Williams/Bears throwing the ball more than Love, particularly with his ability to escape the pocket and make plays with his feet.  Williams has alot of juke to his scrambling, and that quick twitch stuff just isn't as dynamic in cold weather on a grass outdoor surface.  Getting Walker back and keeping the Bears from a run-heavy game plan will go a long way to putting the Bears team in their place after the 2 month horseshoe they've been riding with.  Williams will throw the Packers a couple of picks if DBs can catch the ball, or I can see a strip sack at a big moment turning the game with Williams trying to do too much.  Someone other than Parsons is going to have a big game rushing the passer/blitzing, and having Cooper or Walker availably to shadow Williams is big if they can get the Bears into 3rd and longs/1-dimensional passing.

If the Packers take care of the football, they're going to win Sunday afternoon.  The Bears as a team have gotten way too much favorable press leading up to and especially right after beating an inconsistent Eagles team, something Chicago hasn't dealt with since most of their roster has been born, and that's a recipe for a clunker going on the road for a team that is very new to success.  I know Chicago might get some of their early season secondary starters back on defense, but they are among the league's worst run defenses and I think GB is going to make some hay on the ground and with play action.

Repeat of the Halloween MNF game in the downpour. Ugly on both sides, but Watson channels Robert Brooks for a surprise 99 yd TD.

Loved watching that game. Favre didn't complete a pass the entire first half.

I would think a bad weather game favors the bears more than us due to their offensive line and running game.

Maybe... but their defense is worse against the run than their offense is good vs it.

I really want to see how Parsons does in this type of weather. He's played in a dome for most of his big games and last week was Detroit. Late in the year in GB at Chicago...

Hopefully he can put Trapillo on skates.

I think we’re decidedly the better team. I think we should win by a margin in the two score range. But “should” has little to do with this season of NFL football, and the Packers are no exception.

I can’t remember who the opponent was, but one of my favorite quotes from Charles Woodson was something to the effect of “we just needed to make _______ play quarterback.” I think that’s what today boils down to: make Williams have to play quarterback and GB wins easily. If the Packers do that, it means they get out to a lead and/or keep the Bears ground game in check while staying disciplined in their rush lanes to keep Williams in the pocket.

The only way this game becomes a problem is if we allow Chicago to slog this thing out on the ground or we hand them a bunch of turnovers. But I’m not quite sure I trust this Packers team yet. I want to know they’ve matured past the point of their earlier issues (and the Philly game wasn’t that long ago). Today will be a good measuring stick. And next week will be even more revealing, especially if we win this one.

No Nazir Stackhouse in this game. That's... a bit surprising, but Redd, Golden and Bullard are all active(would have been surprised if Bullard or Reed wasn't).

I agree with what you're saying, but.. we also lost to the Panthers... and they're somehow in contention for the division, so I think we SHOULD win, but the pace of the game will definitely determine it.

Just have to stay aggressive on offense and we can't allow long drives on defense. The long drives at least mean they're not really gashing us, but... they just limit the possessions.

Two absolutely terrible plays by JL back to back, holding the ball too long and taking a big sack, leading to a bad 3rd and long situation and desperation throw.

That should be a fumble and our ball, though.

Well, there’s his obligatory “***” throw. No more of that today, please.

The one sure fire way to lose this game is turnovers.
