2026 Brewers Optimism!

Told my wife about a month ago...... I finally, actually BREWLIEVE. They may not pull the whole thing off, but they have enough talent that they can beat anybody. Didn't feel that way last year. A year ago it was, they can get to the WS ..... "if this, if that".... lots of caveats. This year, they just have to play their game the way they have all year. They CAN get to the WS.... WILL they? Stay tuned.

Oh they will, this is the optimism thread!  They're winning it all!!!!

I’ve gotten to go to all four home games this postseason. The atmosphere has been fantastic. Fans have been bringing it all year. I was at the Cubs game where Lara walked it off, and the Contreras walk-off HR against the Marlins. There’s been something different all year. When your pitchers are only giving up three runs, you may be behind, but you are never out of it. And this team doesn’t quit. 
 

So many times this year, after another gritty win, I just shake my head and say, “This ******* team!”

I was checking flights to LA last night. I think I will save my $$ for the WS. Fly to Tampa or road trip to Cleveland. I’m not missing this!

Dodgers have 5 games to win 4.

I found a stat that a team that goes up 2-0 to start a best of 7 series wins 83-86.2% of the time (thanks AI. One positive of its existence)

 

All that to say,, still more work to do, but I’m pumped!

Only has happened 5 times in the history of the Best of 7 format.
 

Both teams choked in the inaugural year of 1985

Yankees blew a 3-0 lead in 2004

Braves ended up losing in 2020

Phillies ended up losing in 2023

2 hour road trip to Cleveland, and yes I've already checked with the family calendar to make it work for Monday - Wednesday when the stars align

That’s LCS only. There have been several other instances in the World Series, including 1958 when the Braves, defending their title, led 2-0 and 3-1 over the Yankees, but lost the series. 

The Cubs won their World Series after trailing 2-0 and 3-1. 

I wouldn’t call losing a 2-0 series lead “choking”. I would call it playoff baseball.

Right, the reference was about our odds to win the LCS. So World Series situations are irrelevant.

If I recall, Cleveland tickets were quite affordable in 2016 in the grand scheme. Even ignoring the Cubs premium that year. A lot of people road tripped for those games.

Ahh, I see that now. That explains the lower percentage. I think there have actually been a lot more occurrences in the World Series.

Yeah, I did ask AI about best of 7. But right now, I just want to get to the WS. Once there, anything can happen. But I want us to win, obviously.

Umm...the Mariners lost the ALCS last year after leading 2-0. And they got the 2-0 lead on the road. 

The memory is fresh in my mind, I was at game 3 exactly 363 days ago, we had a 2-0 first inning lead in that game, not many people would have given the Jays a chance at that moment. 

This is the optimism thread and the 2025 Mariners are a very different team from the 2026 Brewers. Their pitching was running on fumes. The Jays played a similar style of relentless baseball that we play. The odds of us losing the series while up 2-0 are quite a bit lower than the Mariners' odds were.

It wouldn’t have been this high, but I think the Brewers were the betting favorite to win the World Series in 2011 after  winning the first game of the NLCS against the Cardinals. That year there was no overwhelming favorite like the Dodgers this year, so the Brewers going one game up put them ahead of the Cardinals, Rangers, and Tigers. 

That status was short lived as they lost games 2 and 3 of the NLCS.

There's no reason why they can't win the whole thing.

I'm sure the sports psychologists are earning their money this time of year 😉
