Brewers (Henderson) vs Padres (Mize): 08/10/26, 8:40 PM

All of you who have pointed out the poor offense lately are spot on. The offense has not been good for a significant stretch. It needs to be better. But this game was still winnable!!!!! If it was managed properly, and it clearly wasn't. Murph had no plan in the 7th if things didn't go well with Henderson. I really wish the Brewers media would ask him the tough questions instead of simply letting him off the hook like they always do. 

If Murph is thinking he knows Henderson has never gone into the seventh before with any success. He was near his pitch limit. He had gotten into deep counts in the previous inning and was near the end. How can you go into the inning with no one getting ready right away? As soon as he allows a guy on base you yank him and let your bullpen do their job. Hall and Patrick should be getting loose but no. The Brewers could have easily won this game and the offense certainly didn't do its part but this one is just as much on the mismanagement of a game situation that should have been something a MLB manager should be thinking about. Obviously the coaching staff wasn't prepared to make the right call.

Only needed one reliever tonight is the only positive I got.

They’re in trouble if they don’t start scoring.

They have 7 games against the Cubs left and anything less than 3 wins in those games is going to be a problem.

So, game 2 of the series and Walker Buehler await the Brewers.   My fears about this trio of starters starting to hit their stride was well founded.  Casey Mize pitched well tonight even if the Brewers offense was the walking dead again.

Murph said twice during his press conference that "they didn't want Merrill to beat them". So why not bring Hall in make Merrill hit off of a LHP? I just don't get it.

Murphy just said we just played 11 games in a row and 6 more before we have a day off and we just can't burn up all our arms. Henderson pitched well enough to win, we didn't hit.

Exactly. And you can't expect much offense in a night game at Petco. 

I mostly just like that we built such a big cushion that I don't have to care too much about dropping this game. If we burned our leverage pitchers and still lost then I would be more upset.

Especially since they seem dedicated to handed match-ups in most other cases

I see your point, but this big cushion you speak of really doesn't exist unless you are talking about simply making the playoffs, then yes, they have a big cushion. If the goal is to win the division and secure the #1 seed, then I don't see a big cushion at all. The lead in the division could be virtually non-existent in a week and the Brewers are in a dogfight with three other teams for the top spot in the league. Every game is critical at this point. I know that baseball is a marathon not a sprint but for the Brewers to have the best chance to advance deep in the playoffs home field will be imperative.

I think if everyone in the lineup had gone 3 for 4 tonight they probably would have won.
