I will tolerate no Alex Ochoa erasure. Or Andrew Lorraine.  Or, come on, Ted Simmons.

There is something about this picture that reminds me of Jake Taylor from the movie Major League.... lefty (here) instead of righty (Jake).  Maybe just the body type and lack of earflap?

Ted who?  Are you thinking of Bill and Ted’s excellent adventure?  No idea who this Alex Ochoa is never heard of him.  Andrew Lorraine no idea who that is definitely not a Brewers name and definitely not a name who would wear #23.

It appears this was from Sunday, October 10, 1982, after Cecil Cooper lined a single to left and both Moore and Gantner scored to give the Brewers a 4-3 lead.   Likely a stock photo from the Sentinel or Journal newspaper.  I like it.

As previously noted, a magic number is related to clinching a better record than a single team. So, before the games of 8/28:

• Cubs: 22 (cannot earn anything above 4 seed without this)
• Dodgers: 25 (we have the tiebreaker)
• Braves: 25 (the tiebreaker is not yet determined - we were 3-3 head to head, but ATL is currently leading on the second tiebreaker criterion)
• Phillies: 20 (still have 3 games against them)
• Padres: 18

Teams who are out of the post season if the season ended today

• D-Backs: 15 (this is really the main team we look at clinching against to make sure we're in the postseason)
• Marlins: 13
• Cards: 11
• Pirates: 10
• Reds: 9
• Nats: 7
• Mets: 5
• Giants: 1
• Rockies: Clinched

Not that anyone needs to run the scenarios but with the Giants down to 1 game from elimination in August already I'm curious how many other things would have to happen besides the Giants winning out to still make the playoffs.

I know it's mathematically possible for the Giants to make the playoffs, but because there's so many teams ahead of them (and they'll all be playing each other and somebody has to win), I'm not sure there is an actual scenario where they could.
