Wonder if MLB would ever make a rule about painting the knob of the bat a high-vis color and/or prohibiting holding the bat below the knob. Could make those foul ball versus hit by pitch calls a lot easier.

They’re fouling off so many pitches.

They not touching the slow curve. With any authority...

throw one changeup to a lefty and theyre going to miss it by a foot

If you’re going to have that C on your uniform and you’re going to start and bat 5th because of it and not because of your production this year, you had better at least hit a medium depth fly ball with the bases loaded and 1 out.

Because you're certain Vaughn would have, we get it.

Yelich absolutely sucks, but I'm not sure it's realistic to demand specific outcomes of anyone in an isolated at bat.

0-2 and he’s thrown at least 4 more pitches

Everything to the bottom of the order is like 7-8 pitches

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I would have taken a 4-3 Yelich special

That’s fair.

He still shouldn’t be starting against a lefty in a playoff game because there are better options and he’s not even a player who is well known to come alive in the playoffs.

Sorry to harp on it. Fouling off sliders and fastballs. Just shouldn't be possible.

Padres are the hottest team in baseball, and they clearly prepared well. Maybe he’s tipping, but he’s also missing the zone a ton

I know Yelich got that little nubber in the 2nd, but you 100 times out of 100 want Vaughn up with the bases loaded against a lefty over Yelich.

I agree, but think B-rod would have been in for Bauers with Gary/Vaughn in that spot, and Yeli probably gets PH in there anyway.

What did Yelich do to you man? He flew out to RF. Weird huh? Can we move on?

Its obvious the Padres approach with Miz is to do damage with the mid 90s stuff that doesnt break much, as long as they can fend off the gas by fouling it away.  They've been amazing at making doing that and running up the pitch count.

Whenever the mid 80s curve gets busted out that approach falls apart.

Heater, curve, and get an effective change that doesnt break in on lefties.  Scrap one of the slider/cutter, especially against lefties

I think the location is the issue with not putting guys away, he’s either a foot off the plate or getting enough of the plate where they can get a bat on it.  Even at 100+ MLB hitters are going to get a bat on anything that catches too much of the plate.

Pretty good leadoff AB there by everyone’s favorite whipping boy. It would be nice if he can make something happen on the bases.
