I mean, kinda? The flow of things definitely matters, but I think everyone would have been ecstatic with 3-2 flying back to MKE.

I would still feel like we're going to win if that dreaded scenario unfolds. Anxiety goes through the roof, but I'd still like the odds.

All that said, it's time for Miz to play like a Cy Young winner.

Yeah, the Brewers still have the advantage in the series if they lose, but you have the soon-to-be Cy Young winner starting against god-knows-what on the Tampa side. They have some decent pitchers, but Cash burned through his trust tree last night.

As for the Rays sending guys out on short rest, I could easily see this Brewers team absolutely devouring any pitchers on short rest. The moment a pitcher has shown a weakness, this team goes for the kill. If I'm the Rays, I'm terrified of that scenario.

Especially a guy with Rasmussen's long injury history. Despite the win, the game going extras last night was the absolute worst-case scenario for them.

I'll believe it when I see it. I've seen this "they burned through their pitchers" schtick before and sometimes it ends with Buffalo Wild Wings Mahoney throwing 7 shutout innings.

For sure, it's a real thing in baseball. But unless last night really rattled this Brewers' team, I haven't been concerned about their ability to handle pitchers, especially shaky ones. They've had a nearly perfect approach against basically every pitcher they've faced.

Miz tonight and Rays are out of pitchers, gonna have to mix and match a bunch of tired people. Probably can’t use Rasmussen or Freddy cause too gassed, if they do use them it’s for like 2 innings each max. Caminero possibly out with an injury, unlikely though, and their lineup is pathetic if they don’t have him. If Brewers don’t win tonight I’ll be officially worried, have no faith in Henderson to deliver in a potential game 6, Gasser I would have faith in a game 7, don’t want it to get to that point though. So, just need Miz to be locked in. Also, Bauers, Mitchell, Contreras, Yelich, Turang combined 0-22 last night. 6 of their 8 hits came from 22 year olds. Vets better wake tf up tonight.

Ashby isn’t taken out of the game yesterday to not be available today, imo. He would pitch an inning in a lead situation.

That seemed weird.  Murphy went out and talked to him for a couple of minutes and it looked like Murph was trying to see if he could leave him in or if he was done.  I'm not sure Ashby is available at all.

Opposite actually. Ashby was lobbying to stay in, and was stubborn about giving the ball to Murphy. But he was at 30 pitches, which I assume was the limit the team had set for him if he had any shot of pitching tonight.

His velo was down before he got taken out, a bit concerning for tonight’s outlook, but I imagine he could pitch 1 inning tonight maybe, but doubt he can go multiple.

Abner is available since he didn’t pitch Monday so can pitch B2B nights, Megill can get like 5 outs tonight if needed, Romero available again, Harrison in an absolute emergency if in extra innings.

I imagine the only guys not available tonight unless in case of emergency are Hall, Senzatela, Drohan, Harrison, Woody.

One big thing to watch is the status of Caminero. He was favoring his leg at first, then sprinted first to 3rd and when he got taken out was moving slowly and deliberately. I want this to end tonight, because I have stuff going on Friday and Saturday…..and I just want this over with. Let’s do this!!!!

Murph isn’t walking out to that mound unless he is ready to take him out. I’m guessing there was a pretty hard pitch count of 30 and really going beyond that is making his availability the next day pretty questionable. He wouldn’t finish that inning sub 40 pitches in all likelihood.

He probably didn’t want him in there for Diaz and figured Walls is so awful he didn’t need lefty-lefty to get him out. I thought it was a pretty smart move by Murph last night and Walls did prove to suck in that AB anyway.

I went the extra step to chart the TB pitchers too:

image.png.bf3214b129635d7c6b72c1ecd1094623.png

The * on the chart is to identify the starting pitchers for each team.

Just speculating on who is available:

Brewers: Ashby*, Drohan (please no), Gasser**, Hall, Harrison, Megill, Romero, Uribe, Woodruff

TB: Baker, Booser***, Cleavinger, Kelly, Matz, Peralta**, Sulser

  • * Ashby is pretty regular about back-to-back nights even with 30+ pitches,  but with 2+ innings it might be a stretch
  • ** Gasser and Peralta could go an inning or two with 3 games until their next start.
  • *** I'm not sure if Booser has done three straight games, but his pitch count was low and this is the WS.

Otherwise if someone did 30+ pitches last night, I doubt they pitch tonight even if it was one day.

Honestly, I don't see either pen hurting too bad unless their starter only goes 2-3 IP.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

The honest rostering snafu for the WS once they put Woodruff on it was leaving Patrick off instead of choosing between Harrison or Drohan to sit this series out.  Those two are the same IMO.  I'd actually have preferred Patrick over all three on the staff this series.

The pen situation for the Brewers isnt that dire knowing there is an off day tomorrow - Hall and Uribe should be fine with normal workloads, Megill is rested and ready for at least an inning, Ashby could give them a few outs, and arms like Romero/Senz arent totally torched.

If the Rays cant use Rasmussen tonight, they are literally throwing the kitchen sink thats already heavily burned through for the entire game.  As long as Miz can get to the 6th and the offense scores runs like it can (they hit into terrible luck most of last night, so its not like the bats went silent), i feel great about tonight.

Still stewing about that overturned Pratt stolen base in the 9th - I had game winner vibes from Vaughn in that spot...and also still hoping I dont see Ortiz in the game tonight at all after he kickstarted the 12th meltdown.

Everyone here is a fan of at least one (and probably more) Wisconsin sports teams, so I get that there’s going to be some facing down the demons this morning. There’s a lot of recent postseason history there, and most of it is bad.

But today is a new day, and from where I’m sitting, it looks pretty bright outside. Three shots to achieve the dream is a deal I’ll take every single year. Not convinced?

How does two more appearances by not just your Cy Young winner but a guy who can do things with the baseball that literally no one else in the history of the sport can do strike you?

How does having Babe Ruth in the lineup move you? Because that’s what Chourio is doing. Only the Babe has also had multi-hit games in his first four World Series appearances. And Chourio is even better because he’s faster than Ruth ever was and can hit pitching the likes of which Ruth never faced. So for the next three games, the Brewers have Babe Ruth+ leading off.

Oh, and they also have the guy who is better than peak Andrew Miller in the bullpen as well as a minty fresh closer. And another off day tomorrow if necessary. And then two home games after that if it comes to it.

I’m still feeling pretty good.

I'm not feeling good, but this post helps

But the BP won't even be needed tonight.  Miz finally gets a start on "normal" rest.  His control will be back and we are going to see the ACE blossom.  Eight dominant innings, hand off to Megill = shutout.

Game, Set, Match.

The Brewers look to Jacob Misiorowski to help clinch a World Series title.

Put together similar tables for Tampa, with and without starters:

I'd expect we see Rasmussen start, then a heavy dose of Cleavinger and Matz. Perhaps they send Martinez out for an inning if it's close?

I don't see how whoever the Rays decide to start is going to go more than 2 innings. Looking at who they have available, Matz is the likely opener, and he hasn't gone more than 2-3 innings since May.

He looked like he was in pain walking to the dugout after getting pinch-run for.

Yep. Just read it’s a foot injury that he’s had for 3 months. He says he’s good to go tonight.
