Cubs-Cardinals series: who do you root for?

I know a lot of it depends on who wins both games tomorrow (and assuming the Reds hold on tonight) but I have to say either way I'd like to see the Cards take two of three.

i root against the cubs in 99.9% of situations. this situation is not yet dire enough to be included in the 0.1%. i'm hoping for a cards sweep. since i'm from kenosha, i have to deal with more cubs fans than the average brewer fan.

I would like the Cards to beat the Cubs. I don't think that the Cards have that good of a team and will fall off. I'm much more scared of the Cubs when they get healthy again.

I'd been thinking about this, but I am not really sure who I'd root for. I'm all for putting as much distance on the Cardinals as we can right now as I fear them more than the Cubs, but I really don't want to root for the Cubs. In my mind it all comes down to us handling our business this weekend and if we do that we'll be better off than when the weekend started, but with Soup, Vargas, and Capuano going, that's a risky proposition.

Well, with the clock near midnight on the Cubs (literally and figuratively), the blow a wild one at home to the Reds...they're a worse wreck than even we are right now and I wouldn't mind seeing them kicked while they're down, esp. since they are (for now) in second place.

It's a four game series. I'm rooting for a split. Although if by some miracle, we sweep the Reds, I'd rather see St. Louis take three of the games.

I'm rooting for the Cardinals. They're playing good right now, but even with injuries the Cubs are the better team. There's no way the Cardinals keep this up.

I want a split or at worst, have the Cubs win the series. I can't stand LaRussa and at this point, I guess I'd rather have it be the Cubs or the Brewers instead of the Cardinals.

I'm rooting for the Cubs because if we aren't going to win the division I'd rather the Cubs did than the Cardinals. Plus I think the Cubs are more likely to choke it away. There aren't many managers in baseball that I think stand out but LaRussa is one of them and I don't think the Cardinals team chokes late in the season. The best case scenario is probably a split but if one of them has to take 3 I hope its the Cubs.

Well, it sounds like most any outcome could have an up-side for the Brewers...as long as they get their own groove back. But for now I think I'll root for a split.
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

The Cards. It's going to be a race regardless and if we do miss the playoffs I'd MUCH rather it be the Cards.

edit:ughhhh, wrote the cubs.

Wow. I will take the other side of this coin on this. I would rather Bud Selig cancel the playoffs than see the Cubs get into it. Rooting for the Cubs (IMO) to get into the playoffs is like rooting for Xmas at my inlaws.

Honestly -- If the Brewers don't win the division, they probably don't make the playoffs -- I would root for the Cards in the playoffs if Milwaukee is not represented.

I think though the Cards are probably more capable of playing better baseball in Sep. (barring Soriano's return), so I understand people wanting them to lose.

I never could hate the Cubs for some reason(other than Sosa, I hated him), I despise the White Sox which made that world series win of theirs about the most painful thing ever though.

I don't have anything against the Cardinals, they just have been in 1st almost every year recently so I'd rather see someone else up there.

I also root for who will ever help us the most on that day.

However, I would rather see the Cubs in the playoffs than the Cards. Just for the entertainment value. The suspense of how they will blow it is always fun to watch. What will it be this time?....Game 7 of the NLCS, Cubs down by 3, bases loaded, Lee hits a towering drive to right..it hits a bird and drops right into the right fielders glove for the final out. The next day, birds all over the city of Chicago are being killed by frustrated Cub fans.

This a very tough question, i guess i would have to cheer for the cards, i hate the cards ,i am still bitter about 82 but i hate the scubs even more and i don't want to have to listin to those scubs fans think they are gods gift to baseball, even thought the brewers are choking it away I love the the cubs are choking as well.

Tony LaRussa is Satan and Mussolini and Montgomery Burns and Martha Stewart and Ron Jeremy without the physical attributes and Betty White all rolled in one. Pure evil--Go Cubs (never thought I'd say that).

I'm rooting for a total structural failure at Wrigley Field when one of their load-bearing urinal stalls snaps in two under the weight of too much expelled $7 Bud Lights from the bladders of the suburb of Lincolnshire. Ankiel under bricks, Pagan and his inflamed colon screaming like a little girl. Then, from the WGN News chopper, we'll see Ron Santo's stumps emerging from the Wrigley rubble, though anyone listening to the WGN game broadcast won't be able to tell the difference between the buffoonish moans he makes when Ryan Dempster allows a hit versus the moans he makes when suffering a biblical calamity.

Anyway, the Cards scare me more.

I'm rooting for mosquitos carrying a non-lethal form of the west nile virus, flu-bearing children, and the injury-bug.

We need to win to night, a lose by the Cubs, and hope for a split 2-2 in the Cub series. Then if we take 2 of 3 from the Reds we would be 3 games up on the Cubs and 5 games up on the Cards.

This all seems possible to me and would be a great lift for us heading out west.
