Yeah -- This is a great point, the Rockies are historically good story -- not only because of their sweep in the NL playoffs, but they have essentially been playing playoff games since the middle of September.

Some I suppose -- but this is the lowest ever -- and every year there are west coast teams in the playoffs -- I am sure if it were Cubs v. Rockies or Red Sox v. Rockies those numbers would not have been that low

Sure that is right since the Cubs fans all would be watching and they are all around the country. The ratings would be low for any late night non-NY, Bost or Cubs game. You think Col vs SF would get ratings? This is an incredible story many will miss.

All I know -- If I were a marketing guy, I would be getting Steve Miller on the phone and ask him to tweak the following -- which is already pretty close

I think part of it has to do with the fact that these are relatively 'young' teams. I read somewhere that a fan base doesn't get rabid until the second generation of fans hits adulthood.....not to mention the fact that people don't move out of Denver and the people that move TO Phoenix all root for some other team.

 

But I'm sure that lack of name recognition from both teams is a huge factor too.

It will be interesting -- I think the Packers have a MNF game in Denver the same night a WS game could be played in Denver.

Has a League Championship Series ever been on a cable network before? If so, I don't recall. This could have something to do with the ratings also.

as for the ratings, think of it this way: with all the Nielson viewers NOT watching the NLCS, they perhaps saved some shows that were coming close to cancellation; since those Nielson viewers were not watching baseball, they were likely obligated to watch something else. Bright side to every dark cloud.

Jayson Stark has a nice piece up on ESPN.com about the Rockies. Rockies/Indians would have me most excited I've been in a while for a World Series. I might even try and catch a game or two in person at Coors if I can. Go Rocks.
