  1. Figure I might as well throw my hat in the ring. I had been living at home after college and just used my parents' PC. Now I have my own place, which means I've busted out the ol' college laptop. It's a Dell, and it's almost six years old now. It still works, but it's slowed down over the years. I think I might be due for something new. I'm definitely not a computer guy though, so I don't really know how much memory I should shoot for or whatever. I won't need any specialized computer, just something that allows me to play video online (that's where my old laptop really falters). I imagine anything new I buy could handle that just fine. I wouldn't mind a desktop, but I only know I'll be here for the next eight months, and then I don't know where I'll end up, so a desktop might not be as convenient at this point. At the same time, I'd rather not spend a ton--probably $1,000 at the most. Netbooks sound intriguing, but people in here have said one shouldn't be used as a main computer. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  2. Yeah, Neyer says Braun probably shouldn't be in left field. Well then where the heck should he play?
  3. It seems like Marquette and Wisconsin generally get lower than what fans expect/think they deserve. They should get a six but I'm expecting a 7 or 8.
  4. I love Amir's reaction when he first sees Streeter on the courty. In that half-second he immediately realized he had been pranked.
  5. As long as we're on the pet peeves of English, I'll throw out, "for all intensive purposes" when they mean "for all intents and purposes." That one always cracks me up. What's an intensive purpose?
  6. There are at least five mattress stores within ten minutes of my new place.
  7. Hall was a bit overpaid last year, but he was nowhere close to negative value. His defense was pretty valuable. Hall for Igawa would be terrible. Hall for Swisher would be better. I don't see the Yankees giving up Stewart for Hall.
  8. Find it a bit interesting that the people who don't like him were the same people who hated the hire before hearing him. I didn't really know anything about him, and thought he was pretty good in the couple innings I've heard. I'll need to hear him more, obviously, but so far, so decent. I also thought he sounded a bit like Powell at times. He seemed descriptive enough in his play-by-play, certainly more than Uecker. I heard him call a base "the cushion" once, and kind of liked the term. If he says it five times a game, though, it will get old fast.
  9. Marquette favored by one. Should be a great game.
  10. I think Skiles should get serious consideration if the Bucks get better than the eighth seed, or somehow get above .500. I don't think they'll give it to a team who's six games under .500 and squeaks in to the playoffs to get crushed in 4-5 games.
  11. Man. Around the time I started posting here, everyone wanted Andy Marte. He was supposed to be a stud's stud.
  12. Why is "savings" in quotes? Cutting McClung would save about a million bucks. Is that fake money to you? I wasn't necessarily advocating cutting McClung. I was just saying the Brewers have done it before. The money was more with Vargas, but the premise is the same. Personally I'd rather have McClung in AAA starting, but I don't think it's a huge deal either way. I'd be very willing to give DiFelice a starting spot if they cut McClung. DiFelice's walk rate the last three seasons is incredible.
  13. Cutting McClung would save a decent amount of cash and would probably be similar to cutting Vargas a couple years ago. Also I'd be open to keeping him in AAA starting since he's not really a clear improvement over any reliever anyway. What are you basing this statement on?
  14. I don't expect an arm issue to anyone at all. What a team says publicly shouldn't be taken at face value. I think most here expected the Brewers to add an experienced starter before the season began. Plus, the Brewers never even said they had ruled out signing a pitcher, just that they didn't expect to.
  15. I don't see why the Phillies would do this. He's probably not worth three years 54 mil as is. He's regressed each of the past two seasons and is as bad as Fielder at first base. They're no longer protecting themselves against injury, and it's not even like they got a discount.
  16. Radio guys were making such a big deal out of the fact that the Brewers might have to pay for the surgery. Could it really cost that much money? Is it even really relevant?
  17. I believe the team is on the hook for some of the contract but not all in that situation. The Brewers did this with Vargas and saved like a million bucks or something.
  18. Yes, this would answer one question but it only brings about more. Who the heck advised him not to get surgery initially? Why did the Brewers offer arbitration, and why did Sheets decline it? It all seems to come back to the team doctors (or whoever it was who made the call). This is just crappy.
  19. Here's Wright's minor league numbers CheezWiz http://minors.baseball-re...com/players.cgi?pid=30390
  20. Not a big strikeout guy, but doesn't walk many either. This makes perfect sense considering the needs of each team. If they don't add another starter I'd expect Wright to get a chance to win the fifth spot in the rotation.
  21. I'm probably overstepping my bounds here--the NBA is a distant third for me in pro sports--but why should we expect McNeal's stock not to rise substantially? McNeal 2009: 20 ppg, 49% fg, 3.8 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 2.1 steals, .8 blocks. Wade 2003: 21.5 ppg, 50.1% fg, 4.4 assists, 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 steals, 1.3 blocks Couple things I take away from that. One: Dwyane Wade was absurdly good. Two: McNeal really seems like a not-so-poor man's Wade. Wade was the fifth pick in perhaps the strongest NBA draft of all time, yet McNeal won't be drafted? Where's the logic in that? McNeal is the leading candidate at this time for Big East POY. If he wins it and continues to get national attention, do you really think he won't get drafted?
  22. Yost didn't have anything to do with his elbow injury? Care to share your reasoning there?
  23. I'm sure he won't go in the lottery or maybe even the first round, but I think Jerel McNeal would be a great fit for the Bucks. He definitely seems to fit what Hammond/Skiles are looking for in a guard.
  24. Yeah, Hardy should break out any season now...
