  1. Marcum has to be considered a #2. He was 19th in the AL in WAR and 13th in xFIP last season, which makes him a strong number two/close to a number 1.
  2. Heh. I would too. I posted that before I saw the Marcum trade.
  3. Love this guy. He's fun to watch as well. He'd be a good fit for a back end starter or bullpen.
  4. Cain, Rogers and Jeffress could be enough (assuming KC likes those 2 pitchers) I suppose it's possible, but I'd be surprised if that was enough. None of those are rated as highly as Lawrie. I think there's about to be a serious bidding war and that KC will get a haul that the Brewers couldn't match.
  5. I am hoping that the Marcum deal convinces Melvin that he doesn't necessarily need to get pitching in a Fielder deal. Concentrating on just pitching closes off ways to get the most value.
  6. My preference is to trade McGehee. Dangling Cain is an interesting move that could get a nice starter too. Greinke is probably out of the question at this point. They don't have enough to get him without Lawrie.
  7. Marcum is at worst a very close second to Yo. Sounds like he's open to an extension. Who cares how hard he throws if he gets guys out? He still gets swings and misses, and he has a nice walk rate too. Gallardo-Marcum-Wolf isn't great, but I'd say it's pretty good. If they can add one more pitcher above a 4-5 type, I like the staff a lot.
  8. I just want to see some creativity out of Melvin. He's never really gone outside the box. They need to pull off some sort of trade for pitching. A lot of teams will be in on Greinke, but that doesn't mean the Brewers shouldn't be as well.
  9. How do teams continue to hand out these absurd contracts? He's 31 years old!
  10. The time to deal FIelder was before the 2010 season. Now they'd got the most value by keeping him, trying to win this year, and taking the picks.
  11. I'd (attempt to) do backflips. I don't think McGehee would be near enough to get Floyd.
  12. Well, you know that wasn't on Shouse's head.Of course it's not, but I'll always remember it was Shouse. I think that's what's known as collateral damage.
  13. Good God is this a match made in Heaven.
  14. Good LOOGY, but I'd say my lasting memory of Shouse is Yost having him walk Howard to face Burrell.
  15. For all we know, Boras told him to say that. It doesn't mean anything.
  16. They aren't going to get that for one year of Fielder.
  17. It's sure seeming like Hardy isn't that player anymore. He's got two seasons of terrible offense behind him now.
  18. And he didn't originally make the All-Star team (a.k.a. "Pulling a Yount").
  19. Oh, please let that come true. That would make my day.
  20. The splits aside, my point is that Gavin Floyd is not a number 1 or 2 starter and won't ever be. He's a number 3. He's good at times, and not so good at others. He's seen by Sox fans and those that cover the team to not have the top of rotation makeup that other guys on that team possess. That's not my observation, but that of those that follow the Sox closely. 2010 AL Ranks26th in ERA 11th in xFIP12th in WAR 2009 AL Ranks22nd in ERA8th in xFIP8th in WAR Floyd is at worst a strong number 2 starter. He's was far better than anyone on the Brewers in 2009, and only Yo compared to him in 2010. I care about that much more than how he's "seen by Sox fans."
  21. The Yankees are right. He wouldn't beat that offer on the open market by more than an insignificant amount. He's not going to leave New York over a couple million bucks.
  22. 1.19 WHIP, outstanding k/bb. He had a very strong season. Only problem is the Twins have a much better defense than the Brewers. I like Pavano a lot, but he's not a good fit with this defense because he has a lot of balls in play.
  23. I agree that Fielder for Floyd doesn't make them a better team. They'd have to make a corresponding move somewhere. I wouldn't be thrilled with it, but at the same time, I don't think they'd get a better pitcher straight up for Prince. It's why I don't think they'll trade him.
  24. This would be a solid return for Fielder, but I'm guessing Doug would like someone with more years left on a contract. I don't think they'll be able to get a better pitcher than Floyd, though.
  25. The division is very winnable in 2011, and if they Brewers can find a way to get an ace, they're as good as anyone in it. The Brewers have the offense to win the division. I also fail to see how the moves made before 2009 hurt their ability to get pitching in 2010. The CC trade was made with prospects who haven't done a thing to this point. If they weren't dealt then, their value would have only dropped, and the Brewers wouldn't have been able to get much for them. Their pitching problems last year were based on poor free agent signings and a lack of creativity (i.e. failing to make a trade).
