  1. I have no problem improving weaker areas of the team by trading Mench and Rivera, I just don't see the benefit in giving them away for nothing, or nearly nothing.
  2. I wouldn't give anything for him, but I'd think about claiming him off waivers.
  3. After you weaken the backup catcher spot and the OF, you might well need to add some major league depth. After the way injuries devastated the '06 version, you'd think more folks would have some respect for depth.
  4. Well, if you're going to have a decent starter as your backup, you're not going to be able to pay him $500K. You can't have quality and pay them like Chris Barnwell.
  5. Hell, I'd take him over Counsell in the thirdbase timeshare. Sub .300 career OBP, 50 points lower than Craig. Jose also cannot play SS. Very poor comparison. There's a reason that Macias is available as a AAA backup and Counsell is making big bucks. Craig is simply a much better player.
  6. I'm sorry, but I would not do that trade at all. What I meant was, two top tier prospects, like Wil and Yo, are a fair return for Cordero.
  7. Many folks think the Nationals are a '62 Mets-like bad. They are many years away, so a total rebuild is well within reason. However, Cordero is a fine pitcher. Two prospects, like Yo and Wil, are probably feasible.
  8. It doesn't say the Brewers won't use him as a reliever. That said, he'd be a $7M long reliever, heck, maybe 7th starter. If Mark doesn't mind spending the money, it might work, but Lieber's peak value would probably be right before the July 31st deadline...but you'd owe him about $3.6M more than Mench, so you'd have to pay him up to $2.4M before being dealt.
  9. Unless the team has a loogy or veteran middle reliever available, I would guess a prospect or two, depending on how good they are.
  10. Just like The Rookie, if a guy throws hard enough in a tryout, it's pretty much an automatic sign.
  11. End, what's $1.8M between friends?
  12. U9, what do you mean? Brady is a winner!! For all his stats, Peyton Manning has never shown he can win... ...oh. Never mind.
  13. I don't think there's much doubt Clark has some value, most teams would love him as a reserve OF, and he'd likely upgrade a few in CF. Are we still at the point where $3.8M is overpaid? I mean, Counsell and Graffy are both making about $3M. The payroll is still only about $60M. I don't think Mark A minds at all, or if he does, he sure hasn't said. If Mench is dealt, I don't know if we'll see a straight platoon, but Clark playing versus LHP in LF will likely be the majority of his playing time, in a starting role at least.
  14. That's strange, Ned hasn't decided on his rotation yet.
  15. Wow, those are some big names for the side stages, but maybe some are for the main venue.
  16. I would assume teams might think Derrick is available because he's a closer and he won't be closing. Or, maybe Doug has made some offers now that Derrick is not doing badly. Seriously, the odds of Turnbow not suffering a serious mechanics malfunction in Boston, where every loss is the end of the world, is slim and none. I cannot imagine a player (other than maybe Ben H) less cut off for Beantown.
  17. Yeah, I don't think I've ever done a double hat tip before.
  18. If only Ford could steal 1B. That must be about as fast as anyone in the game.
  19. Sounds like he's going to resign with SD. He can play AAA for anyone, I doubt he'd choose the pitching rich Crew.
  20. I have a ton of Yount cards and stuff, but allow me to say I have nothing.
  21. Nix will not be "cut", he has an option remaining.
  22. Has anyone else never heard of this league?
  23. Hopefully, either Closser or Rivera make it to AAA. If not, it'll be Rottino (if in N-ville) and another pickup...maybe the guy Closser/Rivera take the place of elsewhere.
  24. The curveball/slider is pretty much a personal choice as to what to call it. If you only throw one of them, you can call it whatever you want. Usually a curve is a big, slow pitch; while the slider is a harder pitch that bites downward. Turnbow's looks like the classic curve, but it is called a slider, because that's what he calls it.
