Yeah you get Chourio in that lineup and it's 7 deep with above average MLB hitters and Durbin/Seigler aren't slouches hitting 8th. Ortiz is kind of the classic old school SS. Amazing glove but can't hit this year.
Cristian Montilla is another who started really slow and has come on strong here to end the season.
.442 OPS in June, .621 OPS in July, 1.022 OPS In August not counting a 3-4 day today.
I mean those stats just lack context so yeah using them to justify that he was about to blow up due to what I assume is fatigue is just cherry picking.
1. Those pitches are almost entirely from when he was starting which isn’t relevant to him as a RP
2. 25-60 is a massive range of pitches for a guy who was never going to touch 40-60 pitches yesterday
Also this completely ignores that Murphy said Myers would have faced Marte if the error didn’t happen. Clearly this superficial pitch limit was not something that was on the Brewers mind.
I think it’s correlated. They are both hitting the ball really hard. Typically speaking the harder you hit the ball in the air the more likely it is to be a hit. In small samples when you’re really hitting the ball hard, you’re probably going to run really high BABIP and ISO numbers
Yeah all those numbers say is that Tobias struggled as a SP this year which is hugely irrelevant to him pitching out of the bullpen today. If we want to agenda post with small sample sizes. Tobias as a RP had a .286 OPS against coming into today.
I mean that logic really just makes no sense and actually makes me more annoyed by the decision. The tying run was on 1st base with 1 out. Who cares about a ground ball or fly ball.
Jansen trade was a few days before the deadline so he was active as a Brewer on 7/29 which means he was on the team when they lost to the Cubs on 7/30.
It's as much if not more on the pitchers. Of the steals against Dinges on Thursday night, he only had a chance of throwing a guy out on one of them. Most were stolen regardless of the throw.
Not really. Gasser is rehabbing from TJ so he's a bit of a wild card. Rodriguez has been bad since he returned from his forearm injury. Zastryzny's stuff hasn't bounced back to where he was before injury. McGee is a mop up man. Yoho is a nice ranked prospect but has been super unimpressive in his brief MLB sample.
That's tough to lose DL. Brewers pitching depth right now is pretty thin. Gasser, McGee, Patrick, Rodriguez, Yoho, Zastryzny is all we have for pitching depth right now.
Not super baseball related but Sam Dekker had one of the worst bratzooka runs I have ever seen. Over half his brats didn't even get over the netting lol
I feel bad for DSL Red Sox Red. Having to face Steven Duran and Diustin Mayorquin in the same game just isn't fair. Those two combined for a dominant 8 innings today.
Duran - 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO, 2 HBP
Mayorquin - 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 SO
I don't recall the numbers but I think it was Hogg or one of the Brewers beat guys in the last couple weeks who said the Brewers had the most unearned runs scored in MLB and it wasn't particularly close.
Edit: Found the tweet from Dom. It was tweeted almost a month ago but at that time there was a substantial gap between us and 2nd
And Perkins will be a defensive replacement late when the team is ahead as well. We already saw it when Frelick was out. Chourio moved to left and Collins was replaced by Perkins with Perkins in CF
Yeah it is unfortunately a really nice contract for the Cubs. Not a ton of risk maxing out at 3 years if he struggles and if he's good (like he is) then it's a really affordable 5 year contract.
Oh definitely not a basic play. That ball had a crazy amount of spin on it and George is one of the fastest players in MiLB and was already moving towards 1B on the swing. Fischer could have played it better but that was not an easy play when you consider who was running. Frankly if Fischer had just let it go that ball probably goes foul that's how much side spin was on it.
Man they gave him an error on the squibber by George? That's super harsh. That thing had a ton of spin and with George running he probably needed to barehand it to have a shot.
