  1. I believe it's still the right shoulder impingement. That's what has been reported. He came off the IL, was optioned down to AAA and then was put on the inactive list for the Sounds after a couple outings while he "works through a physical issue," according to MLB.com.
  2. There are definitely people already writing him off. Then again, some were writing Chourio off a few weeks ago(and at least one still is).
  3. Or his first three seasons(age 23-25) where he put together a 67 OPS+ Turang is 23 and has always taken a while to adjust. Not sure why you'd use Gantner's last year to compare when...his early years are much more comparable. Turang will be fine...and he SHOULD be surrounded by elite hitters moving forward. Yelich, Chourio, Wiemer, Black, Frelick, Contreras...I expect his MLB numbers to match his AAA numbers from last year in the next couple years as he gets more comfortable.
  4. I think next June or so is reasonable. He's still not...walking enough...I guess. LOL...I don't know, you have to squint to find something, but I don't think it's a great idea to take him just as he's settled in and gotten into a groove and throw him into a pennant race.
  5. I don't know if that's true, but I kinda hope it's not. I feel like a full year in AA is perfect for him. I mean, the kid is 19 and looks like he'll be in Milwaukee next year...and then the "Chourio extension" threads will kick off! I really only ever saw just a couple people really questioning him...and generally people who were already dug into an argument(like they'd prefer a FA reliever each year over the Latin American signings and development).
  6. The arm, even if it's been better this year(and generally pretty solid for a LFer)...it's obviously more about getting 3 of those guys into the OF. Frelick is probably best suited to play LF in the near future...though I don't know how exactly Chourio will fit in...and it's not a pressing matter just yet. But just Wiemer and Mitchell manning the other two spots give you two 70 speed, 70 grade arms out there. I'm not sure exactly what you'll get, but I think you'll likely get at least what Wiemer is doing right now out of him...provided he's healthy which obviously has been a bit of an issue. But his floor at this point is at least a LHed Tyrone Taylor. I don't know if he's a ~5.5 WAR player(that's what his production thus far would put him over a full season) but I know he's a helluva defender and he should hit enough to be at least a 4th OFer. Plus I was mostly talking about the OF defense. I'm still not sure what any of them will actually turn into, Wiemer included, but I'm optimistic.
  7. I don't know when it happens, but it's gonna be a lot of fun when the OF has Frelick, Wiemer, Mitchell and Chourio playing out there. Yelich has been just better at everything this year athletically. Faster, throwing harder, hitting the ball harder...but he's just not the defender those guys are. I'd love to see him try 1B. I guess otherwise...our DH becomes a rotation with him and and then mixing and matching those guys? I think there are some gloves touched by King Midas in the future of these young guys.
  8. I can't believe you're seeing "hate" for Wiemer. Pretty sure there's more appreciation for Wiemer...and a FEW people who've suggested that he could use a couple weeks in AAA but MAINLY because of his service time. That's not hate, that's just...common sense. You want a 7th year out of him. And he probably shouldn't have started this year in the big leagues. I wouldn't send him down because I think we need him vs lefties, but I don't think those who are suggesting maybe we do are "hating" on him.
  9. I advocated for a longer leash. I thought there was no way he could be this bad...but he really just is. 565 OPS. It's not like he's Joey Gallo and hitting under .200.
  10. The schedule is just...so weak(at least it looks like it now). I know this sounds stupid, but I don't even care all that much about the record or the playoffs. This is about the next 10-15 years, see if Love can be the guy. The bolded part is why I'm not particularly worried about the record. I think Love's accuracy is really good when he's just lose and letting it rip. And he did that last year, both pre-season and post. I think the WRers probably won't be a great group, but they're talented, deep and diverse. So there's a ton of room for growth there. I'm sure we'll see drops and mistakes. Love in a weird way may be better with this group than Rodgers. Just getting to grow with them. The TEs you could be right. It's hard to know how two rookies are going to play. Musgraves looks like a big time threat down the seam though. We did get 2 of the top TEs in a very deep TE class. End of the year...11-6 and we lose in the playoffs or 6-11 and we're eliminated by week 12, if we go into next year knowing we have our QB of the future and we can use our two 1st round picks on building around Love, this season will be a massive success. That's it. The only barometer.
  11. No...anyone who's watched Caleb Williams can understand this. You just outlined pretty much the worst case scenario. Not that he has just an OK season. He can have an OK season and show flashes and improve. I have a feeling this is gonna be a 'we know it when we see it,' type of thing. The physical tools are elite. I think he's got a bigger and better arm than Dak...but so much pressure on his shoulders.
  12. There were 2 people who'd come forward and the Baseball coach yelled at his players and he got fired when I said this.
  13. Right...forgot about that. That shouldn't change the total significantly. May add a bit, but 4 college arms, a couple guys who are relievers headed into pro-ball. In any event, we're in a MUCH better position than I'd have thought after Pratt and Bitonti signed. That's a million more than I think most people would have guess yesterday.
  14. I don't think that offer would be nearly good enough and I don't like the idea of giving up almost 7 years of an elite catcher and OFer for a rental. I'd get over it and enjoy the hell outta it...but I am fine with the fact that our farm system will continue to grow and we'll take our chances with the staff we have and hopefully a couple bats who can just be solid hitters at 1B/DH, maybe as a platoon player in the OF...
  15. Well...better than what I was thinking. Just happened to check on the score as the game was starting up again. Just saw the 45 pitches and a new pitcher. Good to know though.
  16. Pratt in particular. It really did seem like 2M was going to be pretty close to his asking price. Leston, Adamczewski maybe? I'm curious what Gholston's price was. He already said he's not signing, but until the deadline passes, that option is still on the table. I don't think anyone would have imagined we'd have ~1.43M to use on picks 11-20.
  17. There has to be some merit to the idea I'd think. At the very least, they're not a team like...the Rockies who are just utterly clueless. You'd have to have a pretty mature kid who was thinking big picture like that. I'd think athletes at this level would have a whole lot of confidence. The Rays, LAD, NYY, Cleveland, Houston vs the Rox, Angels, Pirates...etc...
  18. Damn...didn't see this. You don't go halfway, do you! Great post though. Also don't know how I missed that the Pirates got Reynolds for McCutchen, but that's just another example why I don't like the idea of giving up some of these players in A ball who aren't valued as top prospects or as elite prospects(Lara, Guillarte, players of that ilk) in a trade...not that they were drafted. Anyway, great post.
  19. The big problem with the Hader trade was the...just ridiculous expectations. And then trading him while the team was in first place...I mean, management has said it wasn't a good decision or one they didn't realize the impact it would have. You can point out that we had the same record after as we'd had since May(whatever the exact timeline was) but we traded away a core part of the team. So I don't think there was really any return that was going to make people happy. The standard was kinda the Chapman trade. An overpay for a great reliever because the Cubs were desperate. A year out we seem to have beaten that after flipping Ruiz. If you're not happy with that because you're supposed to get good players...alright. I don't think you were ever going to be.
  20. He was the most vocal about it...or one of them. Things worked out great. I think if you brought him back...they'd probably work out great again. I wouldn't be worried about how it'd work...for the next couple months. I also don't think anyone would be talking about this if Hader wasn't a Brewer....and I can't even picture a scenario in which the Pads come back to the Brewers and accept a realistic trade package they'd be willing to give up. It'd be great to slide Payamps into that 7th inning role, Peguero into the 6th or just use them whenever, but Gasser has good stuff. I think it'd play up in relief.
  21. I thought Black has looked very good at 3B. He can cover ground, he's got soft hands and the arm looks fine...from what I can tell. I also think about the Phillies game yesterday when we won 5-3 and you could point directly to the defensive plays they didn't make at 3B vs the plays we did make that was the difference in the game. It feels like it'd be a bit of a waste to DH him and keep that speed and athletic ability off the field, but it'd be a much bigger waste to just keep throwing out a .500 OPS at DH. I'd be MORE than happy with .240/.350/.400 at this point, and then his speed on the bases.
  22. I don't think the argument is that the better arms are in AA is that more players jump from AA to AAA, I think the argument is the most talented prospects spend more time in AA vs higher caliber arms. Arms with better pure stuff, while AAA is...as pointed out, filled with organizational depth like Rea, Pannone, or any number of relievers who are going to bounce around. It feels like guys move through MiLB MUCH more deliberately at every level until AAA and then it's often time a final tune up vs more advanced pitchers or savvy pitchers(however you'd like to articulate it). More Misiorowski type arms in AA and more Collin Rea type arms in AAA.
  23. I thought Yeager was the reliever with the higher upside or more potential. Is he down with TJ? All I see is 7 day MiLB DL for elbow strain and then little else. Would not be hard to imagine him breaking out and becoming a nice reliever for us in the future. The trade worked out great. It certainly wasn't fun last year, but history has proven Stearns right. The ONLY thing that could have proven him more right was if Rogers had pitched up to his ability. I'd argue that Hader hadn't been "blowing up for two months," but he was SO bad right before the trade...3 straight outings giving up an ER, then 9 ERs over two outings while recording just a single out, it was pretty impressive to get what we did out of it.
  24. Don't disagree with any of this other than...I think he still has every chance to make it up and be a part of the team in Sept. I was also pretty damn impressed with the throw he made tonight doubling a guy off 1B. I thought his arm was his weakness... Anyway, he's got time to salvage this season and get to Milwaukee. I wouldn't write the whole thing off just yet. It's been a disappointing season, but young players rarely have linear paths on their ascent to the big leagues, and we should remember, this is just his second full season in our system. Chourio was "stalled out," and we should sell on him low just a week ago according to at least someone on here and more than a few people on Twitter. If Wilken is in the same place as him in 2 years, I'll be happy with that as well. If he can get hot and hit, the Brewers still have plenty of time to bring him up. He's held his own vs lefties this year as well...
  25. Well, that may be the case for Taylor and Mitchell, but Frelick was healthy when Wiemer got called up. The Brewers choose to replace Mitchell, a LHed CFer with Wiemer, not Frelick. Maybe the Brewers just knew Wiemer was this good of a CFer. He gets rid of the ball quickly...he can certainly take a crow hop and get the ball where it needs to go. I don't think the problem is he doesn't know how. He's got more than enough arm to get the ball to 2nd on a LD to the gap that he doesn't need to set himself and take a full wind hop. That's a pretty big strength. He takes some banana routes for sure...though he's looked good lately. Only real issue is on going back on balls and MLB parks are quite a bit different from what are mostly cookie cutter MiLB parks. I don't know if he needs to calm down his swing or not. I know all the pre pitch motion. That's all noise. I don't know if he needs to calm it down or not...the guy swings big all the time every time, but when the pitch is coming in, he usually ready and on time, he's just got a lot of swing and miss and pitch recognition issues. I don't know that a nice picture perfect Molitor type stance, swing is going to change anything. Maybe...he's also just young.
