That's fair. I like Grant a bit more, and I think the one thing you could always count on with Gary was effort. He made Hustle plays. That's a bit in question with Nolen. As for Harmon...I generally think if you're worthy of a 1st rd pick as a 3-4 DE, you fit as a 4-3 DT, either a 1 or a 3. Unless you're saying he's more of a effort player who doesn't have the natural pass rushing ability, but he's more of a run defender and for that reason a better fit as a 3-4 end. This class is harder to get a read on than even just last year. The CBs all tested...so many of these CBs chose not to. Mitchell last year was a stud, he fell. I think Johnson would be the best case scenario at hitting on a immediate impact player at a position of need. I still keep seeing people like Brugler suggesting the Packers may g back to OL. That'd make me think Simmons and a Walker trade eventually.

They can score with just about anyone. I'd like to see that lineup staggered. I'd LIKE to see Andre Jackson Jr in there at times in place of Portis or Lopez. But sure, they have the fire power there. Hollins is another guy who will see his minutes go down, but who I think we're just better when he gets 15-19 minutes. Yeah...isn't that because the Bucks would then be paying like...30M for Head Coaches not currently coaching? Billy Donovan was the guy I was really hoping we'd hire a few years ago. It seems like Doc builds his lineups more like how we would for Fantasy Basketball. Unless a team with a 25 year old superstar off to a historically great start to his career is shopped and traded to the Bucks, we've likely already hit our peak, but I could see a run to the ECFs vs Boston(where they'd hopefully dust off the aforementioned Jackson Jr) and...who knows. Crazier things have happened. Lets hope Dame can get on one of those runs he did in the post-season with Portland and we play more than 5-6 games this year. We'll see. It'll be fun...until it's not.

Oliver Dunn optioned down.... Caleb Durbin gets the call
BrewerFan replied to Jastro's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
He had enough to be a reliever for the last two years. I don't think their goal is for him to be a reliever and I don't think we need a reliever. If they do, they have options that don't need to be Misiorowski. They've already brought up Henderson, Yoho seems like he'll be on deck. The back of the pen looks pretty dominant right now with Megill, Uribe, Koenig, Mears, Hudson, Grant Anderson hasn't been awful and they've got...a lot of guys on their way back. I'd prefer to leave Misiorowski in AAA and continue building. Then, in Sept, unless he takes a bit jump, call him up at that point. Hopefully Ashby, Witchrowski, Hall, Myers, Woodruff, and whoever I'm forgetting. If it's for a spot start or two, fine, but as long as he's got the stuff to be an ace, I'm going to want to see him brought along slowly. -
You declared the season over week 1 last year and you declared Hafley a bad hire. It feels like you're just locked in the Ted Thompson years and ignoring the actual reality of what's going on now. They went out and got McKinney and Jacobs coming off a year in which they were in a game, up 7 vs the 49ers, the team that went to the SB. This year, they "struggled," and lost 2 games to the 14 win Eagles, SB Champions(5 points and then they were just gifted 7 points to start the game by a horribly botched call on the fumble recovery). 2 games to the 15-2 Lions, 2 games to the 14-3 Vikings...and then to the Bears. They went out, they made a big move to shore up the OL. They added a CB... What is "complacent" about any of that? Right...OR perhaps to keep some of their talent around. also VERY possible(probable) they went after others, but didn't want to overpay. Again, some people on here think a player signs in Arizona to play with his former defensive coordinator and you can just plug in the salary he got from that team and assume the Packers could have gotten him for that same prize. But who should have been signed that wasn't? I'm not sure what point this is making. No team has operated with more urgency than the Saints, Browns, Jets...just getting into cap purgatory just for the sake of it seems foolish. Philly did lose the #1 and #5 ranked Free Agents, Milton Williams...who got 4/104 as a rotational DE and Sweat who again, went to play with his former DC in AZ. Kinda feels like he has. You're speaking for "most people?" I don't think you are, BUT I do know "most people," said the Packers were going back to the 70s and 80s version when they let Rodgers leave. Their record was better the following year and they remained the youngest team in the NFL last year while rebuilding on the fly. It's almost like people just...took it for granted. He came in, spent 200M when the cap was ~180. Added 3 immediate bit impact players. The next TWO years, they were right on the verge of the SB. Losing a HOF caliber LT PROBABLY cost them both the Tampa and SF game. Heading into those two seasons, he drafted QB late in the 1st that "most people," hated(the selection, not the player. Covid, Cap goes down and then the "complacent" front office spent about 120M more than the salary cap(knowing it'd bite them later) to keep Campbell, Douglas, keep their best players around. Then when Rodgers was done, the complacent front office had a plan in place, they dealt with ~140M in dead cap in two seasons while keeping all of their young talent. But they were complacent? Especially then? How about if they're 0-1? You were excited about last year? Again, before Week One, a game played vs the team that'd win the SB, you declared the season over. "one of the most optimistic on here." I can't even imagine how miserable you'd be as a Steelers fan(or instance, or really just a non Philly, KC, NE fan over the last ~20 years, but CERTAINLY during the Gutekunst years. I am still curious, what was the move they should have made but it doesn't really feel like there is one beyond what wasn't available. Or Hendrickson? Surely ONE move couldn't completely change your entire attitude of the direction and mentality of this franchise, right? If they were to end up with TJ Watt...that'd just be another move, but...still...complacent?

I love Grant. If he can add a little bit as a pass rusher, there's...a LITTLE bit of Dexter Lawrence in there. And moving from a 34 to a 43 could help him unlock it. But, if nothing else, he's very good vs the run and can move men in the pocket and that makes it easier for the Edges to get home. I think the best tape of the three, Harmon, Nolen and Grant is Grant, but it's a bit less consistent and he also has a guy who should be a top 10 pick who played next to him. Harmon is the best effort player and I think it's really unlikely he's a bust. Not sure the ceiling, but I don't know just how good he can be. Nolen is similar to Wyatt in my opinion. More stout.

I see some. Martinez is more violent and Barry's was smoother(though not Griffey type smooth). I've never hoped Clancy was right more than when it comes to Martinez. If he can be our "Bellinger," type...accounting for the fact that you usually take about 25% less production when you use that type of comp, but say .240/.330/.480 with his size and speed. I'd take that!
-
I thought it was Quay, but then Christian Watson...who was basically a 1st rd pick but the Vikings were just smart enough to not cave when we wanted #32 for our 2nds and we got 34. But mostly it seems like they're later rd picks.

I'd give the contract to Watt...I wouldn't give up the 1sts. LVN has been better his first two years than Gary was his first two...so there's a LOT of reason to think he'll improve. Watt could be used with those two as he's so versatile, but the only player I'd have considered the multiple 1sts+contract for would have been Crosby due to his age. Watt would probably be too much because of his Wisconsin connection that may skew Packers fans perception...but he is an incredible edge and I think it's kinda like Baseball, you overpay a bit on the front end. Just not that much in draft pick compensation. And big old 6'8 Cailas Campbell has signed a new deal and will play for AZ. The guy just KEEPS playing at a high level. 5.5M, 2.5M incentives. Was offered more by at least 2 teams, so he was always likely going to one of a handful of places and GB may not have been one of them. But he'd have been a difference maker. I have just one out the box idea or thought(at least related to the Packers)...if Campbell from 'Bama is there...you might have to take him. He's an Off-ball and I get Walker and Cooper, but that'd be the LB'ing group from hell. And I don't like taking LBs early... just watching some of his A22, he make some bad reads and he's such an athlete he still makes the play. Give him more time as a MLB and I think he could be a Kuechly type or a Patrick Willis type. Actually I see a lot more Derrick Brooks in a bigger body and frame when all is said and done, but I don't know if he'll be around anyway.

Two stocks I was NOT buying was NVDA and AVGO. Just ...too much of my portfolio is somehow tied into that but...I couldn't help it. AVGO was in the 130s and they announced 10B in buybacks, NVDA is sitting there with 50B authorized and it was at 87 and I bought a few blocks. Sold the NVDA at 105, was honestly planning on selling the AVGO when it hit 170 as it had yesterday...and as it's there, I see the news, 90 days and i's at 180-185 and I'll probably sell tomorrow as it was never meant to be an investment. NVDA did get the go ahead to sell the H20s. That's 16B in revenue that seemed to be off and they're ready to be shipped. Also, I don't get it...why was the Dow down 2300 points, 1900 points, massive turnaround... we get a rate cut?

Is there ANY chance Urias is coming back? He was convicted of everything. Bauer's not back and...he was never even charged. -
Remaining Boras Free Agent Pitchers

I'm about 90% sure he's not... He's got a women who has a very...open personality in social media. -
Hey, if the whole point is to just lower the 10 year, then fine, but you can only lie so many times as President and make up these figures that other countries have for tariffs on us. The US was at 1.5%, China was at 2.2%. That doesn't seem like it justifies a 54% increase. Also, I wouldn't be so sure that we're going to win this "big game of chicken," with the global economy when Japan has an alliance with...CHINA and South Korea. Jesus. Trump MAY actually be on pace to get the Palestinians and Israelis to find peace if he can get those three nations to. They're not bowing down and Trump says that's not the plan. There is no negotiating and this is what we're doing now. Tariffs 40-50% higher(until of course the actual reciprocal tariffs start coming) and they completely rebalance global trade so that it's not as reliant on the United States.
-
Sure bud. I feel like you captured the points I made in an intellectually honest manner here.
-
You don't think they had it coming?

Merely pointing out how inconsequential tariffs are! Ironically, I BELIEVE that was actually Reagan putting tariffs on semiconductors for a short period while he worked out a trade deal with Japan(ironically, now it's arguably the most important industry at the moment). But this is how trade is supposed to work. TARGETED tariffs to negotiate trade deals. Also...Harley. Reagan put tariffs on motorcycles with the understanding they had a window to build competitive bikes. And they did. Started at 45% and then went to 0 after 5 years. There was one about Krugman talking about this being the worst economic policy in 95 years and potentially being much worse than a prior tariff passed by the house just 5-6 months before the crash as we live in a much larger, more global economy now, but...I'm sure people can find other opinions if they like.

It's more his actions and...pretty basic deductive reasoning. I've got it. You think Bando deciding to wait for the expansion draft, giving a reliever 1M(a whole .3M paycut) while asking your best player and franchise Icon to take a paycut from 3.2M to 1.3M with a 2M option) was reasonable. Because Selig stepped in when the deal HADN'T happened at the last minute, you definitely cannot infer he wanted to and thought they'd keep Molitor and that it was Bando that didn't want him. You need it spelled out for you quite literally with Bud saying, "I thought Bando would get it done, but I had to step in after the Jays had offered him money to salvage it," and shy of that, it doesn't matter. I...kinda felt like it was obvious. I did. Did I not make that clear? Why would you think I'd post if if I didn't think it was relevant or cared? He was in the smallest market and yet they were running one of the highest payrolls while they went to a WS and were an injury to their closer away from a WS. Selig brought Baseball to Milwaukee. He spent to bring in and keep two HOFer(until he left to become commissioner) and he DID certainly hire a poor GM to steward things in his absence. And by that time, they'd spent to keep a young phenom pitcher who had injury issues as well as two other players to try and push them over the top that didn't work. So they lost money and had to cut back on payroll(which brings me back to paying the reliever 1M self explanatory, but I guess it wasn't). It WAS Selig's team and Selig's money and he's THEE reason there is a team in Milwaukee for people like you to complain...fairly regularly about...he also did so many things for small markets to try an do what little he could to balance the inequities in the game, but...sure, terrible owner! Just curious...how bad is Attanasio? I mean, you blame Selig for "strong arming the City," because they needed a new stadium, but did Attanasio not do that? Or you likely do feel the same way about Attanasio...who can tell. Here's what happened. If you want to contort this to lay at Selig's feet rather than Bando's...I mean, people have all types of opinions that seem to be....unique. There are people who think Chourio was a bad signing. There are people who think the Brewers should be spending 10M more on the MLB team vs their LA development. I think it's pretty hard to argue that bringing the team to Milwaukee until that 1992 season when he was involved day to day speak for themselves, but...sure...."crappy owner!" LOL...alright. Here's what happened. If you still feel that way...so be it. https://shepherdexpress.com/sports/brew-crew-confidential/messy-divorce-brewers-paul-molitor/ https://www.swamileecards.com/the-other-side-of-bud-selig

Jacob Misiorowski's improved command?
BrewerFan replied to Terry's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
I would like him used very cautiously and then...sure, if he can maintain those numbers, that'd be great. I'd say 2-3 months in AAA as I trust the MLB team to figure it out and he's probably going to max out at 140 innings this year, but this is encouraging. -
Well...you don't anticipate a President coming in, taking over a bull market and then seeing the markets crash by an entirely self inflicted move! So 120 a couple months ago...yeah, that was probably a good price! I do think they're close to the bottom and I HAVE to believe Trump is actually having his team talking behind the scenes so he can save face and they can claim victory on some trade deals...but I don't know. I'm still holding...but it's like watching the odometer flip. You always go from ATHs. I was up X amount and now...there's...however much. BRK.B is the only stock I'm currently buying. It won't have the highest or craziest returns, but it's not going to have the same downside risk either.
-
Yeah...if that's the end of the story and you want to ignore the part where Selig was the commissioner and he believed a deal would get done while Bando tanked it...and then he came back at the last minute to try and get him to agree to go to arbitration...sure, end of story. If you also want to ignore how the Brewers often had payrolls that were among the highest in the league in the 80s...ok. Bando was "merely" the...guy who made the decision to offer Molitor .3M more than Orasco. End of story.
-
Ok. You don't get it. You think offering a franchise icon 1.3M and offering Orosco 1M makes...perfect sense. Gotcha.
-
Heck, I wouldn't be buying until it starts turning around unless you have some of those chain link gloves so that falling knife doesn't get you; https://youtu.be/YXBwYHQthqo
-
You don't get the relevance of paying a reliever who threw 39 innings 1M and offering Molitor 1.3M? Ok...well, if you don't see it, you don't see it.
