  1. Yep. People are going to Familia and look to that as a comp for saying Britton shouldn't cost much, but comp doesn't outweigh demand in the market. I wouldn't be surprised if Herrera ends up being a closer comp. Maybe even more.
  2. Broxton is a pretty useful player off the bench. He can be a high end defensive sub anywhere in the OF, pinch run, pinch hit to lead off an inning, and has enough power to at least give you a chance that he'll run into one late. I would definitely assume Orf goes before Broxton and probably Phillips goes down before Keon too.
  3. Have we heard what that is? I don't think they're going to just give him away. They're probably going to want one of our top prospects and in that case, no thanks. This is 18 months old, but they already turned down one really good offer. https://www.draysbay.com/2017/1/5/14177084/mlb-trade-rumors-rays-chris-archer-houston-astros
  4. Albers was a huge underrated part of our bullpen success in the first couple months of the season. His ERA entering June was barely 1. Yeah he struggled in June but I'm willing to associate at least some of that through trying to play through his injury. Besides, they're committed to him at 2.5M next season anyway -- barring a collapse, I very much think he's back.
  5. If we were really going this route, wouldn't we have already made the move, moved Shaw to 2nd and Aguilar to 3rd to free up Thames for 1st? I mean if you're going to throw defense out the window, might as well go all out.
  6. Gross, no. A .900 OPS lefty bat in a struggling offense AND a pitching prospect for a 5+ ERA and 1.50 WHIP starter who has been disastrous 2 out of the last 3 seasons? I'd take on his salary, and nothing more really.
  7. I think Peralta is being overrated more than Hiura. Look, I love Freddy Peralta, who doesn't? But he is just not a comparable prospect to Kopech. Kopech is one of the top prospects in baseball and probably has the best fastball in the minors. What Freddy is doing is great, but there's a reason he was more of an organizational top 10 coming into this year, not an MLB top 10 like Kopech. What he does best (extension and deception), may not be something that teams project as a top of the rotation guy. How many aces out there operate in the low 90s? Who are these comparables? I hope he can keep it up. He's done extremely well. But here are the first 9 career starts for another Brewer starter: 7 IP, 1 ER 5 IP, 2 ER 6 IP, 4 ER 5 IP, 0 ER 6 IP, 2 ER 8 IP, 1 ER 9 IP, 1 ER 7 IP, 1 ER 6 IP, 2 ER That pitcher was Taylor Jungmann. So I do think while we should enjoy what Peralta is bringing in his starts, we need to keep it in perspective for now, and no one is going to give us Kopech comparable value for him.
  8. I did not envision any scenario this year in which Keon Broxton was going to be our leadoff man in back to back games.
  9. Arcia needs to be back up. He's been down long enough. I could live with Saladino at 2nd and Arcia at SS.
  10. But he hits the ball hard. No worries, his barrel percentage says he's going to come around any day now.
  11. Duffy/Merrifield easily with that package.
  12. Curious as to who would be the main candidates for his 40 man spot. Torres-Costa? Medeiros? Or perhaps more likely they let it ride until after the trade deadline.
  13. I think Medeiros is generally undervalued by many on here, at least in my opinion. I'm really high on him as well. He may end up in relief, but has the potential to be equally as filthy as Hader out of the bullpen in a similar multi-inning role. Over the last 2 years, he's finally started to be able to fully harness his incredible stuff. The results have been very good. Agree that he tends to be undervalued. It seems like he's been in the Brewers' farm system forever, yet he just turned 22. I would repeat him in AA again next year however. Not sure I want Medeiros to ever pitch in Colorado Springs. Isn't this the last season in Colorado Springs for our AAA affiliate?
  14. No. Maybe if he were a middle infielder, but not as an outfielder. He'd barely play outside of a late game pinch hit or pinch run. Then they'd have to keep him on the 40 and they have enough of a roster crunch coming up without unnecessarily adding guys early. Ray still seems more likely than not to be traded at some point given how blocked he is in CF, but if not, he may finish the year in Colorado Springs. Or he may stay in Biloxi and start 2019 in Colorado Springs. It's been encouraging, but he still has things to work on.
  15. The rotation is set in the sense that they have 5 guys in it. Here's my problem. Burnes out of the pen is probably going to limit him to 110-120 innings this year. So are they going to let him go 200 innings next year or are they going to have to watch his innings again? I don't think there's much of an argument that he's one of the top 5 starters on the roster currently, so if that's the case, he should be in the rotation. There's also the entertainment factor to me. There's no entertainment in watching Anderson try to keep his pitch count under 100 in 5 innings or watch Miley walk as many as he strikes out. Burnes brings legitimate excitement about what he could possibly do now and what he could become in the future. The first thing you listed is probably my biggest issue with this. You want to get at least 150 innings out of Burnes this year. If you know he's going to be in your rotation next year, you want him the entire year. That isn't going to happen if you're dialing back his innings now, and he's in no danger right now of hitting a limit even if you're starting him. This is going to look awfully foolish at this time next year if Burnes is your best starter all season and you end up having to shut him down the first week of September in a pennant race. My hope is that when Albers returns, Burnes moves to the rotation but this certainly sounds like an all year thing now. Peralta is going to inevitably need to be shut down or moved to the pen, by the way.
  16. Cubs are also in the mix, with what, I am not really sure. That farm system is horrific. Literally their top 3 prospects would not be top 10s in many systems.
  17. I just don't see Merrifield getting dealt for the same reason that there's no real consensus on Merrifield here. The Royals see Merrifield as a controllable and productive 4 WAR player who happens to be a late bloomer. Other teams see Merrifield as an unproven and possibly flukish player. The gap in perception is just too much for two teams to overcome.
  18. They are ranked really low in quality starts though. In general they are mostly ok but There’s something to be said about going more than five innings. There is definitely room for improvement. No they aren't.....were tied with the Dodgers for first in the league before today. http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/pitching/league/nl/sort/qualityStarts/order/true I don't know what ESPN considers to be a quality start, but there is absolutely no way we have gotten 6 innings or more from our starting pitcher 57 times this year.
  19. At this point I'm not really keen on loading up on rentals. I get that they're cheaper, but I'm not really crazy about our playoff chances for this year and I don't see Dozier and Escobar being super helpful in changing that. I get that we've got a Rule 5 crunch coming up, but if we're going to deal some of these guys I'd rather either use them as supplementary pieces in bigger trades or package them together for assets that are at least controllable through 2019. Nothing says we can't deal some of these guys in November too, it doesn't have to be now or never.
  20. Would it be a fair thing to say that all of Ray, Medeiros, Brown, Diplan, Lutz, Erceg, Turang, Gray and Ortiz (9 players!) are probably in the 101-200 range depending on subjectivity and could all be considered "fringe" top 100s that could easily move up there by the end of the season? Or am I being too generous with that list?
  21. Brewers are "in the mix" for Britton, whatever that's worth since we seem to kick the tires on every player available.
  22. Literally the best part about this game was getting 3 scoreless innings from Perez and Kratz. I wonder how much ribbing Barnes is going to get for getting struck out by Kratz. I still remember Counsell getting struck out by Jeff Cirillo.
  23. Not an especially encouraging thing with 60+ games left.
  24. Schoop is intriguing to me -- any middle infielder with 30+ HR power is. He's definitely better than what he's been, but with the year he's had I doubt he costs much. The control through next season is nice -- it gives you the opportunity to not rush Hiura and see if Schoop can rebound. If he can, you have a really good problem on your hands. If not, Hiura will be pretty much ready anyway. In 2017 he was a 5+ WAR player who was an All-Star and finished 12th in MVP voting. So he's not very far removed from being an elite player, and he's only 26. I'm not saying I'd give up Ortiz for him, but depending on price I'd definitely take a flyer, and he's a serviceable defender, unlike Asdrubal Cabrera.
