  1. Burke signing confirmed by McCalvey. bonus not disclosed yet
  2. We need a facepalm emoji
  3. I dont see a backup infielder as being a priority. And Monasterio has a small sample size (79 AB) so far so its hard to say what he is capable of. For example, if he goes 4-4 with a double and a HR, his OPS would jump from .571 to .684. That would put him at the same level as last year. He was perfectly fine as a backup / occasional starter who plays decent defense and has good speed.
  4. Professor Proton will live on in our hearts. I actually loved all of the Newhart shows in the 70's and 80s
  5. It will be interesting to watch. Note that the last official ACL games are on July 25th. Most of the draftees are pitchers which historically dont get much playing time above rookie league anyways. I guess my question is do the Brewers need to count these players against the 165 limit since they are unlikely to play in any official games? I could see Burke and Dinges going to low A after a little time in Arizona, but I'm not sure anybody else might. My guess is that the pitchers will all work out in Arizona playing unofficial games. That being said, my unofficial count is that the Brewers are at 145 on the 165 limit (minor leaguers not on the 40 man roster). Even considering the few guys coming off the 60 day IL, they should be in a pretty good situation. Maybe a few pitchers might be let go.
  6. Sorry. I meant Junk, not Junis.
  7. I'll play along. Zastrynzny and Kuhnel DFA'd opening up both 40 man and 26 man spots for Devin and Ross. Junis and Herget DFA'd opening up 40 man spots for Hall and Koenig. Koenig to the 26 man roster with either Peguero or Milner optioned to AAA. DL Hall to AAA. There is a good chance a trade happens to make room as well but this scenario would work.
  8. I'm a fan of Hicklen and would love to see him get a shot, but who would you send down on the 26 man roster? We already have too many deserving OFs. Who would you clear from the 40 man roster to make room for him?
  9. Funny, I was thinking the opposite. Devanney season is a disappointment after an 824 OPS last year. Brady has a 1.6 WHIP this year in relief at AA as a 25 year old. We will see what happens but right now it does not seem like we gave up much to take a shot at Clarke.
  10. I agree. I had him 16 on my list. Still, this is good value for a SP who is at least a #5 but could be as good as a #3 for this season and next. Salary is reasonable as well.
  11. So if it isnt keuchel getting let go (and I dont think it will be), who will be going to make room? Zastryzny is out of options and would have to be let go. That leaves Milner and Peguero as players with options. Payamps is out of options and the rest of the staff has pitched too well to be considered.
  12. Im always nervous trading with TB, but this seems like a good trade and surprising we didnt have to give up too much. I'm very high on Barrios and we may very well regret this trade in a few years, but you have to give to get. Trading from depth is always a good approach.
  13. Yoho at 12 is most surprising to me. I am very high on him, but I see him as a setup man. There are too many good players below him if that is what he is. Now, if he is a closer (or maybe a starter) in the majors, then I could see the 12th placing.
  14. The 9.31 ER might have had something to do with this. I wish him the best as its been a rough year for him.
  15. This past offseason was Bauers 1st year of arbitration. He's controllable through 2026. That being said, he's been replacement level all year (0.0 WAR). I'd like to think Black would be just as good right now with higher upside. This has been Bauers best season in the majors, which isnt that inspiring for a 1b. Its the defense that is keeping Jake on the team.
  16. The last official ACL game is July 25th. While we know they still plan to play scrimmages in Arizona after that date, have to believe the Brewers will promote a few of the top prospects to Carolina at that time. Bitonti, Adamczewski, Holguin, Barrios, Ordonez would all be candidates. I'd also expect a few pitchers though its been a rough year for Arz pitching. That should cause a ripple effect with promotions throughout the org. Of course there will also be a handful of college draftees that will be sprinkled in as well.
  17. Th types of injuries Mitchell has had (strains, shoulder, etc) would not be made worse by having diabetes. Its more about bruises not healing quickly. I have bruises on my legs that linger for over a year. Managing insulin is tricky as its hard to estimate how much insulin to inject as its more than just carb count. What you have eaten greatly affects your insulin response. Its easier now with continuous blood glucose monitors which are placed on the back of your arm. I'm just not sure an athlete could use one since they are pretty easy to get knocked off. Sliding/diving would be pretty much impossible. Its literally a thin needle stuck in your arm, so would not be fun to have that get knocked off. I'd assume he had have to use finger sticks to test his glucose level, which is harder to keep insulin under control.
  18. Do we think any DSL players will get a chance stateside. Pena and Made are still destroying the league, though are only 17. Maybe Jose Anderson? There is a little over a month left of games in ACL. If they promote them, you would think it would be soon.
  19. Hats off to Briceno for turning his season around after a rough start. His April/May/June OPS looks like this: 535/704/850. That's what I call progressive improvement.
  20. It would be disappointing if he was not promoted to AAA. The real question is do they call him up to the majors this year.
  21. The Brewers just added a former Cy young award winner to their rotation to get them to the WS.
  22. This is essentially a minor league signing so no issue here. I'd rather see Chad Patrick get starts than Keuchel. But who know, maybe they can do some Teheran magic and get a few good starts out of him.
  23. June OPS for today's OFs: Perkins (.669), Frelick (.557), Chourio (.822). I knew Chourio has been swinging a hot bat, but not that hot. Good for him. Perkins June numbers are inflated due to a really hot start to the month. The last two weeks, he has a .506 OPS so he has gone cold quickly. I'm all for trying a Mitchell for Frelick swap and playing Mitchell and Chourio nearly every day.
  24. Payamps has become very hittable. Wonder if there is an injury situation
  25. Brewers need to give Chad Patrick a shot at the rotation.
