Batting Order to start the 2009 season

With Ned, this topic would have been useless because we all knew what the batting order was going to look like. But with a new regime, possibly looking to shake it up, what do you think the lineup will look like? Is Weeks automatically the leadoff hitter and JJ in the 2 slot, or could Coey or Camo be up there.

With Ned, the lineup would likely have been:

Weeks

Hardy

Braun

Fielder

Hart

Cameron

Hall/Lamb/Counsell/Mcgehee

Kendall

But, will Macha do it the same way. How would you like to see it?

With what's Macha's already said, and what worked for us in the past, I'm going to guess:

Weeks

Hardy

Braun

Fielder

Hart

3B

Cameron

Kendall

Pitcher

We'll see though; it should be interesting. I can't wait to start seeing some games being played!

I'd bat Lamb 2nd when he's in there. Hardy is not a #2 hitter. Hardy slugs well in that spot (.484) no doubt because he sees fastballs ahead of Braun and Fielder, but his OBP there is just .327 and he's not an opposite field hitter that can take advantage of the right side being open with Weeks at first. Lamb, on the other hand being lefthanded can use that hole on the right side to his advantage and 3 out of the last 5 years, Lamb has had an OBP of at least .356. Lamb has hit there a fair amount with decent success too:

.284/.342/.418.

I'd bat Hardy 5th, behind Fielder.

But I bet it is what you guys already posted.

That's probably why we haven't had a post to a lineup thread since last September 18th. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Hardy in the 2 hole where he'd see a lot of fastballs is a good thing. I think it gives the Crew a good chance to jump to an early lead.

Weeks

Hardy

Braun

Fielder

Cameron

Hart

Lamb/Hall

Last year Hardy seemed to embrace going to RF for the first time. Starting in about June, he started driving the ball towards the right side for the first time in his career. I was amazed at how a self-proclaimed dead-pull hitter was getting hits to RF consistently.

Maybe the pitchers are woried about walking Hardy in front of those two, so he simply sees less balls when hitting #2. Are there any statistics on how many pitches are out of the strike zone when he's hitting in the #2 hole compared to other spots in the lineup? Is his BA difference significant?

That is exactly the lineup I was thinking. Of course that would all depend on where Hardy/Hart/Cameron would rank as hitters. The projections have them as Hart, Hardy and then Cameron. Even if they are pretty close as hitters, the 5/6 holes are a good to have speed. Of course Hall/Lamb, if they are platooned, might outhit some of our other hitters. It sounded like Macha was leaning towards giving Hall the job full time before his injury.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Cam should be in the two-hole, imo, Hardy hitting 6th behind Hart.

7th is 3b, 8th Kendall.

I know it doesn't matter, but I hate the idea of a big burly 1st baseman batting 2nd. Same reason I don't like a 6'6 leadoff. Don't get me wrong, I don't think every slot has to have a player that perfectly fits the mold. But 6'6 leadoffs and burly slugging 1B batting 2nd just rub me wrong. I could get on board with:

Weeks

Braun

Hart

Fielder

Hardy

swap Hardy and Hart if you want.

Just want to throw something different out there. What do you think of Hardy in the leadoff?

Hardy

Hart

Braun

Prince

Cam

Weeks

Hall

Kendall

When it comes down to it I'm really for our traditional lineup but this would be a nice change up from that.

I would love to see Weeks move out of the leadoff spot....Put him in the 6th hole and find someone else to leadoff...

1 Cameron

2 Hardy

3 Braun

4 Fielder

5 Hart

6 Weeks

7 Hall

8 Pitcher

9 Kendal
