The Yankees have catcher Jesus Montero and a couple of pretty stud pitching prospects. One of the pitchers I know of is Manny Banuelos.

Lawrie, Jeffress and one of Hecky/Peralta would be a good starting point I think. If we needed to throw in one more guy maybe see if KC would want Gomez or Parra as high upside change of scenery types.

 

KC gets one of the top hitting prospects in the minors to add to their stable, one of the most electric arms in the minors fresh off an impressive AFL performance and a solid mid to back of rotation type prospect in Wily or Kyle.

 

I wouldn't include Rogers or Odorizzi just because I think they're the two best bets we have to produce another YO caliber arm.

Lawrie, Jeffress, Peralta, & Arnett is what I would send them. You then lock up Weeks for 4 years 30 mil deal. Hold on to Prince til at least the deadline. Trade Mcgehee for a 3/4 SP.

I don't know if I fully expect Doug to make an offer, but I hope he's asking at least. I agree with others that it'll take 3-4 of our best prospects to get him. I'm not sure we're a complete match as I believe they might want a major league ready young future stud type starter in return.

 

Really, I think this is somewhat of a fluky opportunity that the Brewers need to explore and push for. The Royals have said they won't trade him in the division and he supposedly isn't keen on pitching in a large market, essentially eliminating at least a third of the league from a trade. He's also a guy that you'd think the Brewers might be able to resign given the right circumstances.

 

I'd start here:

Lawrie, Jeffress, and Peralta should be more than enough of a serious starting point. Maybe one more low level guy (like an Arnett) or a throw in like Parra or Gomez. How many teams are seriously going to be able to beat a package like that?

I agree. I do not think I would trade either of them right now. They seem like two of the best options to crack the rotation in the near future (like in the next year or two), which is what we so desperately need. Rivas is up there as well.

I really don't think too many teams would be able to beat a package of Lawrie, Jeffress, and Peralta. Maybe I'm wrong, as I'm not an MiLB expert.

I believe he just waived his no-trade clause for New York. And Baird, a Royals exec when he went through his anxiety issues who supposedly helped him get through his issues a great deal is now the assistant GM in Boston.

 

So I think it's entirely likely he ends up pitching for a big market team.

 

That said, I would be willing to give away just about anyone in our farm system for him other than Lawrie.

From the story, the Royals are looking for two pitchers with Greinke type upside, so you can bet the Brewers would have to be willing to part with two of Odorizzi, Jeffress and Rodgers, one of them being MLB ready (or very close). If the Royals are focusing on arms, it's possible a deal could be made without including Lawrie. The Royals are in a perfect position since they don't have to move Greinke, but they have to be careful not to get a little too greedy as the Blue Jays were initially with Halladay.

 

They also have to make sure they aren't too cute like the Twins were with Santana.

I would really try not to give up Odorizzi. If it took giving up Rogers and Jeffress together, I would probably do it, though somewhat reluctantly.

The more I think about it, I tend to agree. I think two years of Greinke is worth it. I hope Melvin wouldn't have to throw in much more with Jeffress and Rogers, though.

It's actually for 1.5 years of Grienke, unless you're willing to take a couple picks for him. I'm not sure if the Royals would feel any two pitchers in the system are what they are looking for, as I doubt if they really like Jake, who is probably 3 years away. 2 of Peralta, Rivas, and Jeffress, packaged with Cain, might be a place to begin.

 

No way I would include Lawrie, as he's outperforming Braun in the minors, and he's very young for his level.

In what sense is he outperforming Braun? Braun tore up AA and was in the majors by his second full professional season. Yes Braun was 2 years older but Lawrie isn't close to what Braun was producing.

Texas makes me nervous. My guess is that Lee is in pinstripes and they will make a heavy push for Greinke as a consolation prize. I hope that Melvin is working this angle aggressively, he should be talking with TB about Garza as well.

Lawrie was in AA at 20. Braun was still in college. Age versus level is probably the most thing to remember when looking at minor league stats. Cain is about the same age as Gomez, for example, and Bill James sees that, and projects them almost the same.
