Favorite WI Lake

It is my goal to someday own property on one of Wisconsin's awesome lakes. It's really hard trying to narrow it down, there are so many great ones to choose from. I always like to hear people's opinions on which lake or area is their favorite in the state. Go ahead and shoot, which lake is your favorite and why?

Big Green Lake.

 

Massive. Up to 230 feet deep. Crystal clear water that gets up to 80 degrees so it's awesome for swimming. Good fishing.

 

Gotta make the big bucks to live on there though.

I was going to say Green Lake too. I love the little town and there's lots of stuff to do in the surrounding areas.

Anywhere on the chain of lakes in the Three Lakes/Eagle river area is nice. We have a place on Deer Lake - 27 lakes connected so you can literally do anything you want somewhere - and get to all if it by water. Not too over crowded, water is relatively warm, fishing is decent and it's a nice area with other stuff to do - mini golf, go carts, etc.

The city of Green Lake is by Big Green Lake. There is also a Little Green Lake within about 5ish miles.

We stay on Range Line lake right off of hwy 45 near Three Lakes for a week in June. It is nice to navigate all different lakes for fishing.

Rock lake - Kenosha county.

 

Very small lake. No motors allowed (except electric trolling motors.) Got some really BIG blue gill. Local legend says there's a steam locomotive at the bottom. Legend says it fell through during winter when they used to pull ice from the lake. Family friends used to own an old Ice-house that was used on Camp Lake.

Always wanted to get over and see that town and chain. How's the water clarity? I love being able to get to multiple options for food and entertainment by boat, it's so fun.

 

I'm mainly familiar with NW WI. I love Long Lake (Birchwood), Lac Courte Orielles (Hayward), Round (Hayward), and the most beautiful lake I've ever seen is Lake Owen. When they say gin clear water, they aren't joking. Pretty amazing.

Most of the lakes have much darker water, our you have almost no visibility to see into it. The surrounding lakes by us are pretty similar but I haven't been on all of them, probably not even half.

 

The best lake I was ever on was in Melon, WI. Probably not too many people have even heard of it. It was called Twin Lakes - with two lakes connected by a narrow opening, and barely a boat launch (and later, no boat launch and you had to hike in over a mile to reach the lake). But it had easily the best fishing I've ever encountered, as well as an incredibly picturesque view on both lakes. No houses, then just one house. Saw many bears, deer, beavers, all kinds of wildlife come down to the water on many different occassions.

 

Sadly, this lake was ruined by one person. I won't rant on it as that will do no good, but it's now 2 lakes, with crappy fishing. Sad.

It's not a Wisconsin lake per se, but my favorite place in the world is Lake Superior. I went to college in Superior, met my wife up there, and have so many fantastic memories. I could sit along the shore for hours and simply listen to the waves crash on the beach.

 

I find myself often looking at real estate sites for vacant lakefront property knowing I'll probably never have enough money to build my dream home.

Ha. That's funny. Where are you from? Melon really is the epitome of a "blink and you'll miss it" type of town. One main street through town - post office, gas station, couple bars and that's it really. I haven't been there in about 10 years - since we got the place in Three Lakes, but I have a lot of great memories of the area - and the fishing was outstanding. It's just so far up there and in the middle of absolutely nowhere.

Little Trout is my favorite, but the landing is dangerous to your property sometimes...won't get too deep into that. Lake Tomahawk is my other.

Technically, yes. But not how we used to tease them.

 

And remembering Gordon... the flowage was always nice too. I don't remember any cabins allows on it, but there was a campground where I spent many a summer... tubing, swimming, fishing, showering under the falls. Ah.. good times.

On the lake end, Devils Lake near the Dells was always a good time.

Grew up on Lake Michigan, and it will always hold a special place for me. Love a lot of the little lakes, but now that I live away from the big one, man do I miss it!
