With tonight's loss the Badgers have locked up last place for the fourth time in 10 years since joining the Big 10.

Never did I think in my lifetime they would fall to this level.

I know we disagree on this, but the Big10 is tough this year.  The other 6 teams are in the top 16 in the pairwise rankings right now.  Wisconsin at 11-19 is 36th.  Which is kind of shocking.  I do agree that a change needs to be made and it has been a disappointing stretch, but this year the conference is shaping up to be a strong one.  Would have been a great year to go 15-15 which would put them on the bubble.

One more game and then the badger hockey program rebuild can begin.

Although it's going to be a real uphill battle now that so many teams in the Big ten have better coaches and just as good a facilities.

I mean if I'm a high level hockey recruit right now why would I want to go to Wisconsin?

I was thinking the other day - If/when they can Granato, who would even be a realistic get?  You would think it has to be some type of high profile coach.

Granato fired.

If Granato couldn't turn the program around, who can?

Sad but necessary.

Really wanted him to succeed but sometimes good players make lousy coaches.

Don't envy the next coaches job with how far the program has erroded.

Great question. I kind of mentioned it above. Who is even a realistic get? I honestly have no idea, but they will probably want to get someone in soon to be in touch with a few of the highly ranked recruits they have.

I'm not a badger or hockey fan, but the program was elite. I think McIntosh wants to bring his guys. I think they will make a homerun hire. Also I think this means Gard's days are numbered.

And your Wisconsin Badgers are women's National Champions!!!

First time all season that #1 Ohio State has been shut out!

7th Natty and first unranked team to do it.

Game was fun to watch. Watched it with my beer league team at the bar. Most were surprised at how good of a game it was.

As long as its top 5-10ish teams its pretty entertaining. Wisconsin against LIU was...not great hockey.

I was at all three games at the Frozen Four.  Ohio State vs Northeastern semifinal was not great hockey either.  However, the Wisconsin vs Minnesota semifinal was an incredible game as well as the Wisconsin vs Ohio State final, another fantastic game.

Ooooops. Wrong thread.

Let's go hockey: I'm ready for my long-time NHL follow in the Minnesota Wild to bow out early in the playoffs. Sigh.

I'm waiting for my Anaheim Ducks to get the first pick in the draft!

They might end up playing my team (the Kraken) in the first round, where they will have a massive goaltending advantage.

Yeah their goaltending has really come around as the season has progressed. Gustavson has been really good for awhile now which is a huge bonus. Their ongoing performance with Kaprizov sidelined has been a truly pleasant surprise. I almost am getting my hopes up but, being a Brewers fan and Packers fan, I am conditioned to expect the worst. In years past, the Wild certainly haven't let me down unfortunately!

Quinnipiac comes back from down to goals to beat the gophers in overtime in the national championship game.

Still no Big ten team to win a national championship since its inception

With the NHL regular season ending soon Ovechkin is at 822 career goals.  He should get to 894 in 2025.  Hopefully more attention will be made around this but I doubt it.

Everyone talks about this record like it is a done deal, but it's far from a lock to maintain a 40 goal/year pace in his age 38 and 39 seasons. If he drops to a 30-something goal/year pace then it gets pushed to 2026, and that's assuming he stays healthy.

He'll probably get it, but I won't feel confident until he has another 30+ goal season next year.

Because if he stays healthy he has been averaging about 0.6 G/GP the last few years.  Even if he drops down to something closer to 0.5 G/GP that still puts him on pace for the 2025-2026 season.
