Look at this rotation. Consider the numbers, sure, but just look at the names too. NL best record with an entirely mediocre staff. Plus, you have Thames, Braun, Santana, Pina, and Arcia/any SS who are capable of offering more than they have.

 

That's a lot of room to get even better on paper, and really not much in the way of regression candidates. Maybe Aguilar a little, may be the bullpen a little.

 

So while I don't expect them to finish with their current winning %, a lot of reasons to be optimistic they can stay pretty close to that.

 

Well said. Looking at it as simply as this, playing .500 ball the rest of the way is 88 wins. Basically anything above that locks you in the playoffs. So just barely above and we're in, very good place to be on 5/29.

Sidenote: we're getting so many wins after facing challenges that we would've lost in the past.

 

I believe it is. I talked a great deal in the offseason about dealing off pieces as we advance in the future in an attempt to stay at and sustain 1.1 run diff as a small market squad. That a OF/1b stack can allow a defense plus 2b SS C that punts O a bit and that a 3.9 staff era with a 3.65 pen era can be achieved cheaply while developing talent in the low demand spots.

 

Staff 3.2 4.0 4.0 4.7 4.7 era.

2 pen aces and 6 guys around 4.

Platoon and offensive weight at 1b OF where its cheaper to acquire and 1 of C 2b 3b SS being an impact stick.

Yadda yadda...

 

1.1 looks like a playoff lock... 1.3 puts you in the running for 100 wins. So far we've been lucky at .9. Granted our balistic pen has made that luck happen. Optimism... this is earned "lucky."

This should be a serious sellers market year, with many teams close to the division lead and just a few tankers. The Brewers have advantages, with Nelson coming back, multiple players ready to come up (Houser, Peralta) they can afford to either stand pat, or use their strong farm system to pry Machado away from Baltimore.

Anderson's performance last night was the TOR quality we've been looking for. If it signals the beginning of a stretch like he produced late in 2016 and most of last year, this team's fortunes took a huge step forward. I'd also feel confident with that Chase Anderson in a WC showdown if it comes to that.

 

Williams and Barnes are both dealing as well.

This is the Chase we need. He is not elite but when he is on one of his stretches, he will keep us in any game! Chacin has been on as of late as well. Chase, Chacin, Guerra is not the 1-3 any competitive team would dream of but they are getting outs & producing. Not a big Davies fan or think he makes us much but better but he's back in 3 weeks or so. Peralta & Burnes outside of CS appear ready to help & Woodruff has improved. Suter gets outs. We are doing the most with the less than any other competing team in baseball when comes to starting pitching & hope it continues!

Chacin is a joy to watch pitch. He's a throwback to the days when pitching was an art. He can vary speeds on all his pitches. He'll use a slow long delivery one time and might quick pitch you the next. Brewers are 12-3 in his starts. Amazing. That's what's great about this rotation. They're all unique and they all compete.
