Any real talk or Rumors for the Crew

Well that would be a bizarre use of our financial resources when we so desperately need some corner infielders!

Wow, that would be a pretty big "Stearns zigs when you think he's gonna zag" move. I suppose Ozuna would serve as a direct replacement for Braun as a RH corner OFer/DH who offers good power. He's be really redundant with Garcia already on this roster, though, unless they are looking to move Garcia or Cain I suppose.

I dont see it happening but damn I love thinking about trading Garcia, signing Ozuna.

Ozuna

Cain

Yelich

I really like that!

Well, at least he hit better than most of our lineup last season. Doesn’t really address the gaping holes in our infield, though.

Yelich to 1B! I'm in!

I would actually be against this signing, at least when considering what it would likely cost to get him under contract. He is due massive regression off of his numbers from last year. I would expect him to hit much closer to the .241 average he had in 2019 than the .338 he hit last year.

Almost everyone feels he should be a DH at this point of his career so can he really be expected to play the outfield? I'd have far more confidence in Yelich bouncing back in left field defensively than I would Ozuna.

MLB trade rumors predicts a 4 year, $72 million contract for Ozuna. If we traded Garcia that would certainly help, but it’s hard to imagine the Brewers spending that kind of money this year.

Ozuna is the type of bat that really moves the needle on our lineup. I agree with the prevailing opinion that it would necessitate other probably significant moves to create space, but he'd be a substantial acquisition.

I think you will see us tied to many guys because Stearns checks in with everybody.

This is a good reminder, he really does seem to do his due diligence, but part of that is also due to the fact he isn't afraid to think outside the box (ie. obtaining Moustakas when we already had Shaw... before Shaw fell off a cliff).

Combining the Ozuna report with the interest in Joc Pederson reported earlier in the offseason, it does seem like DS is at least open to either 1.) a trade of Cain or Garcia, or 2.) playing someone who's generally thought of as an outfielder at 1st. Or he's just very certain the DH is still coming to the NL. Or there's some crazy Yelich trade coming that absolutely no one sees.

More Yelich trade talk.... Honestly I just don't see us trading him, I mean we just signed the dude to a huge contract then not even a year later we're gonna trade him... What was the point in the extension then?

The extension, while a lot of money, is still a team friendly one for a superstar. People would be interested. I'm not but I am a nobody.

Right but why sign him to it, if the plan was always to trade him.

Does it strike anyone else as a little surprising the team Ozuna just put up a 1.067 OPS with isn’t on that list of alleged suitors?

That being said, he’s one of the few true difference making bats left on the free agent market so I’m glad to hear the Brewers might be one of the teams showing interest. Barring a trade it seems unlikely they’re going to acquire a middle of the order bat at a corner infield spot for 2021.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Not really and it may just be that the Braves don't believe there will be a DH in 2021 and they are set in the OF as they have two cheaper options in Pache and Waters. The Braves could also go out and sign Joc Pederson who could play both in the OF and DH and that wouldn't cost them defensively when he plays in the OF compared to Ozuna and he should also cost less than what it would take to sign Ozuna.

Wasn't advocating it or saying I thought it was anything other than a *crazy* possibility to explain the continuing reports of possible interest in outfielders. BUT, *if* you were able to get something for him, they might be in a much better spot moving forward downgrading a bit with Ozuna instead of Yelich in the lineup, adding whatever they get in return for Yeli, plus that whole additional $150M thing.

That said, I think the reason the reports keep popping up are, in order of most likely, 1.) due diligence that leads to nothing, 2.) DS preparing in case the DH is coming to the NL, 3.) DS willing to shift players around on the field to make another OF fit, 4.) either Garcia or Cain on the move, or waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the list 5.) Yeli getting traded.

A 4 year $72M ($18M AAV) contract is $10M, $12M, $18M, $18M, who-cares-about-the-amount option with a $4M buyout, and $10M deferred to the 2030's. The Brewers could do this even with Cain's salary next year.

Let's get crazy. Reunite the Marlins trio and trade for Stanton from the Yankees. Send them Hader and Garcia and ask for 10mil cash each of the following 6 seasons that remain on his contract. (marlins paid 10mil for last 2 and buyout) Be a fun trio if and when healthy. Yankees been wanting Hader there's your piece to draw interest to let him go.

Isn't Stanton hurt far more than he is healthy?

No thanks.

If the Brewers were able to trade both Hader and Garcia, that would drop about $17 million from payroll which would probably be enough to sign Ozuna. You could then go out and sign a guy like La Stella to play 3B. That would go a long way in fixing the offense I would think.

While leaving an enormous hole in the pen. They'd also be selling low on Garcia, which very much is not Stearns's MO. I'm also not sure what Ozuna is going to give you that Garcia cannot. Garcia has been a solid major league player for a substantial enough amount of time for me to believe that the player we say in 2020 is not who he actually is. I think we need to get out of this concrete "what have you done for me lately" mentality. Garcia is, in theory, a similar bat to Ozuna, but with much, much better defense. It just happens that Ozuna had a much better year offensively last year, so the assumption is he's a much better player, when the reality of the situation, at least IMO, is that they are closer in talent level than the above thought leads one to believe.

Which would be a reason for the Yankees to part with him while paying 10M a year to get rid of his contract. When he plays he has a 144OPS+ for his career, including exactly that for 23games last year. He has a Barry Bonds aura at the plate when healthy, the fear is immense due to tjat 500+ft power HRs coming on your next mistake.

It really isn’t much of a team friendly deal. He probably has borderline positive value. That fact most MLB teams wouldn’t want a contract that large regardless of the player is a huge problem....and it is a giant contract for a guy in his 30s. After a knee injury and horrid 2020 I doubt teams would be drooling to get him. If he didn’t have such a terrible 2020 you could probably get an intriguing package of prospects, but don’t expect any studs.

Really nothing valuable about trading for a guy with a $200mil contract. You could just go sign a stud in FA without the headache of a trade.

I want no part of Ozuna but Garcia has been a below average player most of his career. He has had two good seasons with the rest of his career being bad and I'm sure the Brewers would take nothing in return just to get rid of that contract.
