I can see it now: deGrom retires the first 21 in order, notching 14 strikeouts. But Burnes is almost as good and we head to the eighth 0-0. With the ghost runner on second, Hiura drops down a sac bunt to move him to third. On an 0-2 pitch, a high fastball gets away from deGrom and gets to the screen, allowing the ghost runner to score. deGrom strikes out the last 2 hitters, but Hader comes in to strike out the side. deGrom's final line: 8 IP, 16 K, retires all 24 hitters, and loses 1-0.

Both leadoff hitters get XBHs... becuz baseball

Burnes has not looked as good after the sticky substance crackdown as he did before. I wonder if that’s just a coincidence.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

He pitched great his last start.

Whew, nice play by Peterson. Disappointing first. Hope Burnes settles down and gets that cutter working.

"Go ahead. Try to disagree with me. I dare you." Jeffrey Leonard.

I kinda wondered if a manager was going to have the ump check his hair at some point, if only to get in his head (no pun intended). But he really likes to grab his hair between pitches.

Somebody should tell Bill that Burnes slider lost that downward tilt about the same time the crackdown started……..he seems befuddled by it for some reason.

At least the pitch count is less critical in a 7 inning game with a rested bullpen.

deGrom is a joy to watch. He keeps the game moving.

He reminds me of Ben Sheets that way. A good pitcher who gets the ball back and is ready to fire.

deGrom played that grounder like his little leaguer son just bopped it to him. "Good contact, son"
