What's bugging you? ~ 2022 ~

CC rewards seems to be the biggest culprit. The CC companies have everyone bent over. They give people money for spending money and if the majority of people actually pay their bill on time the CC companies are gonna lose money. So they have to charge the businesses more to use their service and the business can't not use it because then they would lose customers.

Which kind of goes back to my post from yesterday, remember when we were told to use cards for everything because checks were bad and business didn't like dealing with cash? Makes you wonder who was really behind all that.

The convenience fees thing really depends on what side of the fence you are on. For customers, "just add it to the price" makes people that pay with cash pay extra because of those that use credit cards.

For business owners, they are getting sick of paying all of the fees as they keep increasing. The rewards cards are by far the worst. I know for my family's small business, some can be 4% which is a joke.

Good points.

So, if I understand you correctly, different cards charge a different processing fee? If so, that's part of the issue.  If some company is charging 4% but another is charging 1.5% then I am less than pleased.

Which brings me to my previous point.  Places are charging process fees that they have always done for more money even though we are not given more for the service.

Yes you are right but they aren't quite that big of a spread. The highest is about 4% and maybe the lowest is 2.5%. We have held off charging processing fees but are definitely an outlier in our industry.

I think people have to keep in mind the credit cards themselves are not the only charge. Merchant Services processes all cards and charge for each transaction. That includes refunds. IF a store sells something and it gets returned store pays the transaction fee for both the sale and refund. On the high end of transaction fees that means an 8% loss for the store. If someone contests a charge they remove it- and charge the vendor for it- if the customer loses the contested charge it gets processed again- and the processing fee is once again charged. On the high end that's a 12% fee. Which in some businesses is more than the profit margin. They're kind of evil IMHO. They are also the ones who add all the hidden charges and fees.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

I do quite a bit of chainsaw and forestry work on my 40 or so acres of upland forest and, even though I've been feeling trees for years, I still make mistakes. This bugs me. Even though I tend to have an understanding about the makeup of a tree's fibers and how it will cut and what I can get away with given the state of my chain or other considerations, I still can mess up. AND, when you mess up a cut on, say, an 80-100' tree the results typically aren't in your favor?

Before the In-Laws came I was felling a gnarly Lodgepole Pine the previous landowners had, for some inexplicable reason, let grow in the SE corner of the only fenced garden area on the property. It wasn't tall, per say, but it was very very beefy. A substantial tree. And, I made my face cut entirely too deep because I was trying to cut corners. I left too much residual branch weight on the back of the tree. The end result: 2 snapped felling wedges; a near bent chainsaw bar; me diving into a garden bed as I got the read on the tree; and my 10' fence in shambles for a few sections.

They no longer serve single patty burgers at AmFam. I don't need more than one patty.  I can't believe that is not an option. And the next best option (double patty) that we settled for was undercooked. I think they were rushing them as we had to wait 5 minutes before getting ours.

Woof. That's a bummer.

Food quality seems to have dropped there - not that it was amazing before.

Do you think they are focusing too much on the more exotic menu items at the expense of the quality of basic items?

Great question.  I suppose I may not be the most knowledgeable person to answer that as I typically don't eat at the games too often, but the few 'basic' meals I got last year for myself and my kids were pretty pathetic.  I am talking cheeseburger, fries, and chicken strips.

I haven't had many of the exotic items, but I could see that being the case.

So after a week of just really annoying sinus pain my cold morphed into an incredibly sore throat last night along with the sinus pain. I don't think I've ever been sick this long with no improvements. If anything, it's gotten worse.

Going on five weeks of being sick now. Last week I thought I had reached the end of it but yesterday my throat started getting scratchy and my nose started running.

Maybe it's allergies.

I'm a seasonal allergy person, but this year was very different. Even during the winter months I would get a scratchy throat and my nose would water unless I would wear a mask outside (I work outside all year long). My wife would comment that I didn't look as I usually do when I'm sick, and I look like I did with allergies. Long story short, I took Zyrtec and my symtoms went away.

Probably not allergies. Everyone in the house has gotten this at some point over these last 5 weeks.

Sinus infection?

It's nearly impossible to tell the difference between the current version of the cold and COVID that are both circulating right now. Both are pretty nasty and will knock you out for a couple of days. I agree that the combination w/ spring allergies isn't helping either.

Coming up on 2 months of non-stop sickness. I feel halfway decent. My wife was stuffed up over Easter and got better but now she's back to being stuffed up again. On Saturday our 2 year old woke up crying with an ear infection and last night our oldest was throwing up and is now laying on the couch with a 101 fever.

Sorry to hear that.  These last few years have been really frustrating.  Hope you and yours feel better sooner than later!

The roof of our building has needed to be replaced for three years.  I tried to get it proactively done three years ago after major issues with the north half of the building but a couple of the owners had one foot out the door and declined to approve it, trying to get out before any further assessment.  The other three units turned over the last year and a half and the new owners agreed to replace the roof.

Well, because it should have been done three years ago there was extra water damage that needed to be repaired.  The spring weather didn't cooperate and we had to wait until last week.  The roofer showed up last week Monday; I didn't think they were going to start until later in the week because of heavy rain expected Tuesday morning.  They assured me they'd have it done, sealed, covered, and wouldn't be a problem.

Well, Tuesday morning come 7am I'm putting out buckets, bowls, and towels and can hear water running down walls in both of my bedrooms.  They didn't seal it up properly.  The water caused three levels of damage in the building.  Finally on Saturday they finished it.  They removed a couple of satellite dishes... but cut the wrong cable, the one bringing internet into my unit.

I had water remediation in my unit cutting out walls & ceiling on Thursday and running industrial dehumidifiers and fans in both bedrooms Thurs through Monday.  Had to empty my walk-in closet and put everything in my living room including my mattress and sleep on the living room floor (with silicone ear plugs because of the fans & dehumidifiers).  This is the third time in five years I've had to rip apart my unit due to water damage because of someone else's negligence.

In order to do the roof we had to disconnect and move the A/C units.  Just in time for record heat this week, and they couldn't be reinstalled until this morning because when everyone saw mid-80's for temperatures they called the HVAC company to get their A/C connected.  I'm the penthouse unit so I had it the warmest and decided to leave Monday night and return this morning.  When they reconnected the A/C units today, one of the unit's (who has an old A/C unit and uses the coolant that is no longer allowed) A/C wasn't working.  It took 3-4 hours to cool my unit down to 74 degrees.

The insurance adjuster can't come until tomorrow, my interior guy hasn't responded to come over yet, I can't use my main bedroom until it's done.  One of the units in the building is under contract and their attorney is demanding final invoices for the roof repair, but the roofer keeps asking for invoices on the water damage.  I'm the one managing the contractors for both because I'm the penthouse unit and the de-facto HOA president.

I'm struggling to thing of anything else that could go wrong.  (Tomorrow the masonry company is coming to repair some blown out glass blocks in my windows...)

When you finish a test and everyone gathers around afterward to go over the answers and you didn't get any of those right.

My classroom is 84 degrees today.  Was 82 on Monday.  Fortunately I planned ahead and got all of my testing completed last week.  Watching other classrooms that waited until this week to do it...yikes.
