Ugh!

Back to the basement for the Bucs, unless they can work a trade for a top tier QB.

*wink-wink*

(Not that I'd want the drama fest AR brings...)

[sarcasm]Until the Bucs draft two QBs and TB suddenly wants to come back.[/sarcasm] :laughing

Tampa is going to lose half their roster to free agency, which probably factored in on Brady's decision.

He knew the 2022 team was going to look nothing like his past two seasons, so that had to weigh in.

If the Bucs go with Gabbert or Trask, it will be a long season. Looking at maybe 3-5 wins with that schedule, knowing the roster is going to turn over.

Sad day in TB...

The franchise got what it wanted out of the arrangement. This was always going to be the result.

You did win a SB with the whole TB to TB situation, so my heart isn't exactly breaking for you... :laughing. You had to know he wasn't going to play for 10 years (despite all the memes on the internet).

Man it would have been so epic had he retired after last year. Imagine if Tom Brady, pretty much already the GOAT of championships...had gone to a new team, won the 'ship, and left on the top of the hill.

For sure...

And it was a great ride!

The Brian Flores lawsuit is all the stuff you assumed happened behind closed doors but were never 100% certain because no one talked. Well, someone's talking.

Lawsuit seems pretty baseless. Yes, teams bring in candidates only to fulfill the Rooney Rule. But what else are teams supposed to do when they know who they want to hire from the beginning but are still required to bring in people only to satisfy a quota? As for Flores and what he claims happened with the Dolphins, it only proves their owner is a crappy owner.

". . .they know who they want to hire from the beginning. . ." is the problem. Especially when all the guys they want to hire are white.

The other gem in the story is Flores' claim that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross offered to pay him $100,000 (extra) for every game the Dolphins lost, in order to tank the season and secure the top draft pick. As if NFL team owners couldn't get any more loathsome.

If true, the league should have no other choice but to force Ross to sell the team.

That seems pretty unfair.

Do you have some sort of inside information as proof they only want to hire white guys?

The proof is in the historical pudding...

"The gains have since diminished, though, and the number of Black head coaches at the start of the 2021 season, three, was the same as in 2003."

Inside information? It's out in the open for all to see.

31 white coaches and 1 black coach in a league with such a poor record of hiring minorities that they had to create a rule to force teams to interview minority candidates.

Team owners have spoken by their actions that they are disinterested in hiring, retaining or developing minority candidates for head coaching jobs.

I totally believe this to be true. Ross sounds like the Donald Sterling of the NFL.

The whole league used racial prejudice in denying brain injury disability payments to black ex-players, so Sterling would fit right in with this group of owners.

31 white coaches and 1 black coach

This comment is almost as bad as the poor job NFL owners have done over the years hiring minority coaching candidates. If you ever meet Ron Rivera or Robert Saleh in person, please tell them you think they are white.

Also, there are currently 5 head coach openings in the NFL.

You're absolutely right. My mistake on the number being 31. It is not 31.

There is just one African American head coach, but there are not 31 white head coaches.

Washington Commanders. The fans are not happy.

I get rebranding a team is hard. There are copyright issues with a lot of choices, then you have speculative fans copyrighting nicknames for a payday. The name is fine and probably fans will get used to it someday, i just think the logo is pretty lame and the uniforms aren't that great. that the team does have control over. I can say the same thing about the Guardians.

Seems like the NFL equivalent of Guardians with a big shoulder shrug meh to it. Also has the issue of easily being shortened to Commie along with having red colors.

Pretty much an uncontroversial, milquetoast pick. Boring. Considering the negative attention that has followed Dan Snyder throughout his tenure as owner, I'm sure that's exactly what they were going for.

They missed a grand opportunity IMO by not going with "Red Tails". That would have been a phenomenal pick with historical significance and great branding opportunities. But the racists would have been up in arms, and I get the feeling the racist undercurrent in the NFL is stronger than most realize.

Yeah, the name is fine, the jerseys are fine, the logo is pretty poor. The new logo for the 'corporate' side of the team that uses all of their title years is much cooler.

I guess I appreciate that in using a bland name, they didn't try to tie it to some super-specific and obscure thing like with the Guardians and the bridge statues...

Hue Jackson is making similar claims, that he and others were being paid to tank.

These are stunning charges. Who would want to play fantasy football, or bet on a game, or buy a ticket, or buy team merchandise or even watch a game if coaches or players were invested in losing?
