I have nothing but sympathy for Flores, but what other outcome did anyone expect from the Rooney Rule? I would guess that for the vast majority of HC positions there is a clear board that teams have with their top options. The rule itself is just stupid, and doesn't really do anything other than give the NFL something to point to and say "See, we're trying." There is no chance whatsoever that forcing a team to interview a minority ever got a minority a HC job.

A more impactful change would probably be some type of program that gets minority talent in the door at the ground level; a scout outreach program, etc, something like that which provides tangible opportunity and room to grow. A token interview at the HC level, an interview a team doesn't even want to do, achieves absolutely nothing.

Hue Jackson now says he was never offered money to lose. I can't believe what was obviously a tongue in cheek Tweet became such a news story. Although I probably shouldn't be surprised.

We have people on here that have to change their font to a different color to signify a joke (sometimes, oftentimes after it's been misconstrued as not a joke) and you think tweet jokes are obvious?

Almost every story written used the words "Hue Jackson implies..." or "Hue Jackson suggests..."

Goodell issued a memo indicating that independent investigators will be reviewing the diversity hiring issue as well as the game integrity issue, and he's calling on teams to cooperate fully on both issues. He didn't say who would be investigating the issues, or if either would be made available to the public.

It's a step back from the league's initial statement that Flores' claims were without merit.

It's going to be a hard case to prove in court, unless others come forward, or there is a paper trail. So far it's just the text from Belichick, which could be interpreted as speculation.

Doubt it even makes it to a court case but since it is highly publicized it has a better chance to. Most of these are settled out of court as the legal fees can be more than what gets paid out.

Now that Miami has hired McDaniel, there are two open HC positions: Houston and New Orleans

Reports tonight indicating that Lovie Smith might be Houston’s next HC, basically implying that no one else is interested in joining that train wreck organization.

The Pro Bowl is a waste of time. I truly don't recall the last time I even tuned in to one.

To be honest, unless my team is playing, I don't care much about the Super Bowl either.

I went to a couple Pro Bowls when I lived in Hawaii and I'm glad I got the tickets for free everytime. Outside of seeing the stars in person all on the same field, it quickly turns into a joke like it does every year. Honestly, those that were going to the game at Aloha Stadium cared far more about the tailgating situation than anything else and the stadium was probably half empty by half time as they made their way back to the grills and coolers. The best part of Pro Bowl week is easily the events that lead up to the game. Players would visit local schools, host special activities, be seen out downtown or enjoying local outdoor activities. It was nice to see them actually be tourists with their friends and families and it made them more relatable. Hard to see the players living life the same way at any other location outside of Hawaii.

I think they should just give up on the ProBowl game itself. It hasn't been relevant for years. The skills challenges and other activities seem more interesting honestly...granted, I've not seen either for years.

I agree completely- it feels like they're needlessly digging their heels in on this. Name the All-Pro team and call it a day.

It was fun back in the 90s when it felt like the Packers were climbing back to relevance and it was fun to see Favre, etc. play in the game. Now, it's just sad.

There were some pretty interesting tweets from former players like Deion Sanders and Shannon Sharpe showing their disgust for the game yesterday. JJ Watt had the best one though. He said he had participated in walk throughs that were more intense than that game. As bad as the game has been in the past, yesterday's was much more of an embarrassment. Sean Taylor must've been rolling over in his grave.

Particularly with adding an extra regular season game to the schedule, just do away with actually playing the Pro Bowl game. Go ahead and keep separate honors like All Pro and Pro Bowl since there are plenty of contract incentives for being named to a Pro Bowl that aren't likely attainable if the awards get restricted to 1st and 2nd team All Pro rosters....just don't line up and play a meaningless and listless football "game". More often than not many of the guys named as Pro Bowlers can't even play in a way that led to them being among the league's best players anyways, so what's the point?

I think you can still get the "teams" together and do a ProBowl weekend. I saw a highlight of the 1on1 dodgeball competition (Jefferson won so MN news had it as a highlight) and thought that was pretty clever. Do a pentathlon of fun game events that the team has to accomplish and you can still make it an NFC vs AFC "competition".

The one issue that I see is with many players having incentives for making the Pro

Bowl roster less of them would earn those without a game. Having a game forces some players to drop out for different reasons allowing alternates to earn those bonuses as well.

It doesn't matter how lame the actual Pro Bowl game is because clearly the NFL is still making oodles of money off it and as long as that's happening it will continue ad infinitum.

the coaches hired this cycle is questionable at best.

Seems like besides the Giants, nobody hit it out of the park. I read Walterfootball that grades each coaching hire, the following got F's. Allen (Saints), Smith (Texans), McDaniel (Dolphins), and Eberflus (Bears). Hacket (Broncos) got a D if they don't get Rodgers, and so did Pederson. Also throw in Raiders hiring McDaniels, even though Pats coaches always seem to fail and he had a less than inspiring run in Denver already. I know that site is a lot of hot takery, but you can't argue much with these.

Yeah, it really felt like teams were going with their second or third best options in some cases. I mean, Lovie Smith? Really? Dude got canned at Illinois last year, and that's worthy of a THIRD NFL chance?

They once gave Joe Judge a B+ Grade and of course this: Jets hire HC Adam Gase: A+ Grade....I don't think they have much credibility.
